Hey Paarth and thanks so much for the great video. I think this will be really helpful for many internationals considering moving to Finland. One thing that i had not thought about too much myself was the dependability but its 100% true. We Finns are highly independent and its a key part of the culture. People move out from their parents place relatively young and we learn to become independent really early. Here its basically given that ones parents will not be helping you with your day-to-day chores or finances once you start your studies and you move out. Super interesting to hear other perspectives on this topic 👍

Hello Oliver, thank you so much for your feedback as well as your insight upon the subject. Couldn’t agree with you more! Having to get things done, all on your own, in an unknown surrounding without supporting networks, can put you in a difficult situation! Basically, the whole point of the video is to familiarize with the host society before making the move! Thanks once again for your input! Much appreciated! 🙏

I would like to remind that there are families with different economical situations and also traditions. There are families, who have been able to offer free housing and support for their students as they have moved to university towns for their studies. Even then independence is mostly seen as something valuable. But since such families have the means to give support, and perhaps such tradition, they are giving support. It can also be a lifestyle decision, as students otherwise would have to change their lifestyle, which has been supported by their family in their childhood.

Is it scary to be independent?and is this the real reason to dis appointment other people if they want to try to live in an independent country?I think this is good for other Filipino people, rather than depending from their parent,old enough to live to their own,lazy luck of to be wise,only depending

Moved do Helsinki 4 years ago. I'd say upsides are a great social security system and convenient public transport system that can get you anywhere (for those who don't drive obviously). Downsides are relatively reserved mentality of the population and hence difficulty finding a job without connections, and lack of smiles on the streets.

It's a good idea to bring certain spices too as most medium small towns don't have Asian supermarkets and you can rarely buy whole spices in normal supermarkets 🤝 I bring a big bag of whole coriander, cumin, plus some star anise and lime leaves every year or two and it blows people's minds when they taste it for the first time 😅🥲

Amazing recap, Paarth. Also you should mention that a non-Western name, accent in English, and black hair color can be a problem for local employers. Helsinki is just 400 km away from St.Petersburg but the difference in attitude is drastic.
@gymganeshfitindia
@gymganeshfitindia Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrey, i think that attitude will eventually change as the natives/locals start seeing more people of different culture & colour. Australia was also once like it and even had race hate incidents around a decade ago. But now its much better with more intergration of people of other culture/countries. Personally I would say the best way to integrate in any culture is with trying to learn their language atleast at spoken level and listen learn more about their music & food.

I really appreciate highly valued time. I'm always on time because of my experiences with other people that I had. For instance, my used to be friend was ALWAYS LATE OR NEVER EVEN SHOWED UP and she always had an excuse after excuse, it was seriously infuriating. I once waited 5 hours for her, just for her to text the next day that "She couldn't make it cuz of my mom blah blah blah" So yeah, I'd love to move to a county where is vauled and not wasteful at all. I also love being independent, not needing help with others and I keep to myself for the most part. Finland is my dream country to move too, I'm hoping to get a teaching job there.

Take my respect and greeting . I have liked your comment and view point . I also want to be dependent and not needing help with others . I want to live a quite , serene , alone and peaceful life . But i live in Bangladesh . My country ❝ Bangladesh 's ❞ people are extremely annoying and disturbing . Bangladesh's people disturb another in unsolicited and uncalled way. Bangladesh is inferior hell . Like you i am also move a peaceful and serene country like ❝ Finland ❞ , where anyone can live alone and no one bothers and disturb you .

I am well off here in Sri lanka and an experienced IT professional with lot of qualifications. I got an offer for Master studies (Cloud Security) I even started learning Suomi (Puhejkkeli and Kiriajkeli). I am not a sort of person who seriously cares about being punctual and someone being a stereotype aka silence guy. I enjoy life with a circle of friends. Though there are are lot of downsides here in my country compared to Finland, I still feel I am more relaxed, contended and easy going and enjoy marvelous whether here. This is my real feeling inside of me. I would not make a decision to move out. May be, I am wrong. I ll make up my mind. 😀

Hartola is a typical Finnish little town with very little to do and no public transport to speak of. The closest train station is 60 km away from there. So the nature is pretty, the people keep to themselves, everyone has a car and the housing is cheap by Finnish standards.

Thanks for posting an informative video. Few points. A. Somebody should start an Indian vegetarian snacks counter in Greater Helsinki area that serves 3-4 dishes 08-20 weekdays and weekends both. Dishes such as khichdi paapar, sambar bada, chura pulao. There is an absolute dearth on this front and cooking chores keep one occupied all through the week. B. Wake up early - acclimatize to waking up to quiet dark. And in few summer months when thats not the case enjoy the change.

How many months a year is cold weather or snow in Finland & how cold? Expensive like CA? Is health care free in Finland? How about property taxes, income taxes, sales tax?
@turpasauna
@turpasauna 8 күн бұрын
It's cold around half of the year. Very expensive, even Finns are having trouble with rising costs. Healthcare is only free for those under 18 years old, adults pay for it. Basic education is free, universities and vocational schools usually have stuff that costs. No minimum wage, but a bad salary is considered anything less than 2000 euros. Expensive restaurants, subpar food, self service. Buying property depends but will come with taxes and yearly costs one must pay. Sales tax will be 25,5% starting this September.

1. CLIMATE, TRUE.. I do not like it either, cold and dark winter, mostly i hate raining but there is more raining in england and middle europe. Finnish winter is dry no huminity so -20°c is not so bad you think but must use body lotion. 3. LANGUAGE, TRUE...but 90% speaks english, even 50 % spanish, german, french or italian. 2. EXPENSIVE TRUE, but is because of taxes, every time when you buy alcohol and tobacco you help sick ppl (damage tax) who get healthcare for free and when you are sick yourself, you get the best threatment for free because there is somebody still who cares. In Finland we do not homeless ppl, everybody get apartment and you do not need to sleep in the street, goverment even pays your rent and living if you are poor ( how is possible ? We do not have oil, we collect taxes). Your children gets free dentist until age 18. Even your pets get cheaper municipity vet if you are enough poor. Education is free of charge when you have residency, married with finnish person, citizen. ...... 5. ODD JOBS....well decreasing, very few instead in germany so called " minijobs" reminds slavery. 4. TOO DEPENDENT =INDEPENDENT.....do you miss your mama, sisters and brothers ? FAMILY ORIENTED???? Is everywhere....homesickness? I do not quite understand this??? 6. TIME AND PUNCTUALITY... Is that bad thing?? We finnish people hate to wait, we want it now and immediately🤣 not like in spain, where one entrepreneur got finally his license for business after 6 yrs when he had already stopped it moved back to homecountry🤣🤣🤣

Hi, agreed! I have similar views. The video is not about ”Don’t move to Finland because….”, it’s about don’t move to Finland, if…, so i meant Finland is not the best place for you if you find these 6 points troublesome. I didn’t say these 6 points are bad or Finland is a bad place.

Hi, One significant difference in these two countries is language. If you do not know already, you will need to learn Finnish to work as a nurse in Finland. Otherwise both countries have great work opportunities for nurses.

Hi. I'm considering moving to finland. My wife is an experienced hair dresser. Could you please tell me if opening a beauty salon in finland is profitable?
@turpasauna
@turpasauna 8 күн бұрын
It is not. There are many competitors in that business, mostly Estonians, who do the work more cheaply. There are tons of taxes and other expenses to pay when working by yourself (you need to pay yourself pension, salary etc. plus cost of commodities needed in business is very high here). If you skip them, you can land in prison. Ps. Finnish women use very little money on beauty services in general. Many cut and dye their own hair here.
