After a hard day of being a weight lifting champion, I only have one thing on my mind.... Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I'm not a beer snob. I love craft beer as much as the next person but I also enjoy our Daddy and Grandaddy beers. They have their place. It's a style and they are enjoyable. Mostly I like Coors Banquet/Light, Miller High life/Lite/MGD, and Pabst the most. I have not had Hamm's in years, and I have never had Old style, Old Milwaukee, or Youngling.

"An excellent review by Matthew J. Barnes published in the June 2014 issue of Sports Medicine shows some very clear rules when it comes to alcohol and highlights several studies you'll want to know about. In one study, Barnes gave subjects 1g/kg alcohol or a equal volume of a non-alcoholic beverage. These drinks were consumed 30 minutes after having them complete 300 eccentric reps for the quads (ouch!). So, basically there was a group drinking the hell out of some booze and another group getting their swerve on with a jug of Tropicana (the control group drank orange juice). Both groups were trashed 36 and 60 hours after the workout in terms of strength in isometric (holding), concentric (raising), eccentric (lowering) contractions. But the alcohol group's muscles had a much worse hangover. They performed 22%, 12% and 15% percent worse in those three measures compared to the OJ group. To make this more tangible for you, and so you can understand how much booze was consumed, 1g/kg is 1g/2.2pounds. That equates to about 80g of alcohol for a 180-pound person. And since the average alcoholic drink (4-5oz wine, 12oz beer, 1.5oz spirits) has about 14g of alcohol in it, if my math is right, that's about six alcoholic drinks. So the study results are about what you'd expect, right? But here's the part that you'll love if you like to drink. Barnes did a similar study where he pitted 1g/kg alcohol consumption against .5g/kg alcohol consumption. And that showed once again that the 1g/kg alcohol level torpedoed muscle recovery, but the .5g/kg alcohol consumption had no effect. So for that same 180-pound dude, six drinks crushed him. But three drinks and he stayed in the clear. That's a pretty useful rule of thumb if you ask me. And this same threshold level of .5g/kg alcohol is backed up on other studies showing higher levels negatively impact rehydration metabolism."
yes indeed it'll give you that nice strong gut we all desire lol

Dear Pabst...I came here to tell you something ... from the bottom of my heart... I thought that I should be the one to tell you ... since we have known each other so many years, it seemed right that it comes from me. You’ve changed... (rubs teary eyes with thumb and pointer finger and sniffles)... Back in the day ... when you and I met... do you remember... I know it was long long ago but... well I was a dumb kid with nowhere to be and a few bucks in my pocket, and you were like ... “Hey screw those other beers . I will give you 12 cans for less than 5 dollars” and it was fate. You were the go to beer. Because the taste ain’t too bad especially after 3 or so cans... then after a loyal couple decades of penny pinching beer drinkers, you decide your worth more than 5 dollars . You suddenly think “ I’m a twelve dollar box of beer..” And I , as a friend thought I’d tell you ...old pal.,,, you are still a 5 dollar box of beer .

I can't gripe too much about PBR. At the bar down the street from me, it's $1.50/pint. So, I can get a buzz on for about $10. It's as good as most of the domestics, and less than half the price, or for 3 pints, you can get one of the decent imports. Think about that.

Pabst is no longer a premium beer. Pabst, Schaefer, Rhinegold, Schmidtz, Schlitz, Ballantine and Carlings all sold out to Falstaff or Heilman who mass produce cheap beers. Miller-Coors and Anhueser-Busch are still premium beers. The difference? It takes at least 30 days to brew a bottle of beer. But cheap breweries while using the old recipes, don't age them for the 30 days, no, instead they use "starter chemicals", and age the beer in as little as 4 hours. Big difference in quality and taste. We used to get Pabst and Ballantine from their local breweries in Newark, they were premium beers then, tasted delicious, but now it's really just chemical water.

machia0705 Hey, - thanks for the specifics. I've always just felt that since back in '76 or so, somebody just took all whatever multitude of decent beer that had it's own, distinct taste, and poured them all into the same vat and pissed 'em out at us. Ya' can't convince some kid today about how good stuff was back then.( Though this vid might strike some as retro, or old school, - all U.S. beer was already shit by a few years.)( - I'd rather eat a McDonald's french fry that's been under a fuckin' couch cushion since '74 than mess with a fresh one from this era.)
