It' only a movie, but little girl Mako running in terror and crying while clutching her little shoe breaks my heart. Mana Ashida, the child actress playing Mako, did a great job.

13:56 I absolutely love how this was shot and acted. Mana Ashida's facial expression and Idris Elba's expression and physical acting really make you feel Mako's elation and gratitude at being saved and Stacker's concern for the child and his exhaustion from the battle while still looking like a total badass. It's a beautiful hero reveal scene.

So Marshal Stacker Pentecost is the only other pilot to operate a Jaeger solo. He was one of the pilots of Coyote Tango, a Mk I Jaeger, and as you heard, the Mk I's were rushed into production to combat the imminent threat, and so they did not have adequate reactor shielding. Both he and his co-pilot were exposed to some severe radiation, and during their fight with Onibaba (the kaiju that was chasing little Mako), Pentecost's co-pilot blacked out from radiation poisoning, leaving him to defeat the monster alone, which he did, but at a terrible cost. His body was severely weakened by the radiation and the strain of piloting solo, which is why he said that if he went in one again, that'd be the last time he did. If you like this type of mecha, you'd LOVE The Big O, an anime that is half film-noir, half rock'em-sock'em robot monster fighting, with a very heavy Batman: The Animated series art influence. TOP tier anime, highly recommend, best episode is definitely the one with the fight between Big O and Big Duo.

17:53 I think the elbow rocket was inspired by my favorite giant robot anime "Armored Trooper VOTOMS" in which, when the robot was in hand to hand combat, an artillery shell (without a projectile) in the forearm could be fired so the recoil would propel a punch with much greater speed and force than motors that moved the arm could generate.

The word "Kaiju" means "Strange Creature" in Japanese, or more commonly these days; "Giant Monster". This makes it the perfect name for an American Akita, which was originally a large Japanese breed of dog. I was SO CLOSE to naming my dog "Kaiju", and if I ever get another male Akita, that will be his name. It ended up being my second name choice for my current American Akita male. I went with the name of a ninja villain from the 1995 movie "The Hunted", starring Christopher Lambert. FYI to the movie fans here... if you haven't seen The Hunted (1995) yet, you're in for a treat. It is relatively unknown, but is a gem of a movie. Especially if you like Japanese martial arts/culture/history.
@jwhaler82
@jwhaler82 4 ай бұрын
The Japanese word for Giant Monster is actually Daikaiju.
@GetFitwithDogs
@GetFitwithDogs 4 ай бұрын
Indeed. That's why I mentioned "Strange Creature" as the definition, but also mentioned that these days that word is associated with "Giant Monster". That may not be the actual definition, but it has been used to mean that in common parlance.

16:00 - There's actually a fan theory that Cherno Alpha only lasted until the end of the war because of its different Conn-Pod location. The theory goes that after Yancy and Raleigh fought Knifehead, the Kaiju hive-mind learned that the head is a weak spot on a Jeager, so they started attacking the head more often, leading to heavier losses. Because the Conn-Pod on Cherno Alpha is in the chest instead of the head like it usually is, the Kaiju were attacking the top of Cherno Alpha. The cylinder at the top is just a heavily armored housing for its reactor, so it wasn't as effective. Granted, you don't want the reactor to go down, but it's a lot easier to defend a metal reactor that doesn't need a visual of the outside than it is to protect the pilots. But, because of Newt's drift with the Kaiju, they knew exactly where to strike this time.

Welcome to the Kaiju genre of movies, Dasha. Pacific Rim is one hell of a great Kaiju film, and a very successful attempt at reviving the franchise. The first Kaiju could be argued as having been King Kong, but the franchise really kicked off thanks to Japan and its creation of Godzilla. Japan actually has a trinity of mainstream franchises in the Kaiju genre: Godzilla, the radioactive dinosaur mutation, Gamera, the flying, fire-breathing giant turtle, and Ultraman, the alien superhero. At their core, Dasha, Kaiju are living forces of nature that are nearly unkillable, and many such as Godzilla are metaphors for nuclear war and/or the misuse of nuclear energy.

This movie works on its own, but it hits you a little deeper if you spent childhood watching Japanese giant robots and monsters dubbed into English and in the original Japanese on your local Japanese language station and building the imported model kits from Japantown and hobby stores that catered to nerds.

It funny, but Dasha's pose in the thumbnail reminds me of the salute we used to do back when I practiced kenpo karate. The fist was supposed to represented the warrior, and the open hand supposed too represent the scholar, though all we ever did was "warrior" stuff like kata and lots of sparring. To advance, you had to perform a kata perfectly, then fight full contact with a student who was the rank you were trying to earn.

At least cut it to 50 minutes because 28 minutes is just ridiculously short. I dont say that this video is bad, this is just my personal opinion.

How exactly would you build a massive, insanely heavy gun capable of targeting a fast, constantly shifting target?, how would you transport that gun anywhere in the world at a moments notice?, what would it be supported with if it was out at sea?. Answer, you strap said giant gun to a mech. A tank is how you make a huge gun that's highly manoeuvrable, a mech is a bipedal tank. There's a reason the worlds militaries are working on them as we speak.
