The Pacific Rim was a masterpiece in the Kaiju genre made by a man who grew up watching the classics and his passion clearly showed, Uprising was made by some business executives who probably couldn't tell the difference between Godzilla and Gamera.

There were setbacks at first. The neural load proved too much for a single person. The two-pilot system was implemented. Left hamisphere, right hamisphere. We started winning, Jaegers taking out Kaijus everywhere. But the Jaegers were only as good as the pilots. So Jaeger pilots became rockstars. Danger turned into propaganda. Kaijus into toys. We were really good at it, winning. Then, it all changed.

We were gonna call it the Zord Program, but some guys in spandex showed up and threatened to sue... Then we tried to call it the Evangelion Program, but some guys from Japan also threatened to sue... Lord Shadow can’t stress that enough!!! Just by the trailer itself I thought it was more like a video game with all those sweeping camera angles going around too fast. It no longer had the gargantuan feeling from the first one. And don’t get me started with the teen pilots. Like how hard was it to cast older, more experienced pilots instead? It would have added both a sense of maturity and intensity during the battle scenes which those kids definitely lacked. We waited 5 years for such a disappointment..
@j.r.6271

The jaegers were purposefully made to be faster and lighter in the sequel. A Mark V, a bunch of Mark VIs, and a Mark VII should look and feel more advanced than any of the original jaegers, especially the Mark I and Mark III. 10 years of R&D and not being on the tail end of nearly lost war made the jaegers better.
@lordshadow3822
@lordshadow3822 3 жыл бұрын
@@j.r.6271 even so, they looked fake whereas the first one looks real. It isn't enough to have stunning CGI, you have sell it. As stated above camera angle matters. Also you have to think physics, if this was real does it obey the laws of physics + having to keep it within reality.

I think Pacific Rim is interesting and “realistic” take on if giant monsters showed up, not in the sense that we’d have giant robots, more in the sense we’d be on our own, unlike in the Godzilla, Gamera or even Ultraman movies we wouldn’t have a good monster to give us backup.

Why was the second Pacific rim so underwhelming? 0:20 shows it perfectly, you can FEEL the weight behind that punch and the slow heavy nature of the jeagers but the second film they're flying around all over the place with none of this sense of scale and weight, completely ruins the nature of the jeagers as these huge hulking metal machines, at least to me.

Yeah I seen the 2nd one in theatre. The plot was boring asf. Their was no character development. So when that one guy died. Nobody gave af. It felt like power rangers who met Tony Stark. The last fight in the snow was amazing tho. Rest of the movie was so disappointing. I’m still going to watch the next film if they make one. I love the concept and I have faith that they can nail it everytime if they stick to their roots.

The second one was trying too hard to work with anime tropes and cliches. Kids instead of experienced soldiers. They destroyed everything in that final fight when they're priority is supposed to be keeping damage at a minimum if possible. The jeagers in the second one had no weight to them and they were too agile for their size. But most importantly. The sequel itself was never supposed to happen. The first movie wrapped everything up by the end of it all. Now a prequel would've been a much better idea.

Pacific Rim is truly the best realistic robot-monster movie I've ever seen in my life. None can compared to the aesthetic design, adamant real world makeup and the breathtaking fluid action the Jaegers pulled off when combating against the Kaiju. I really thought back then that a sequel to this should be promising with the advent of advanced computerized effects. But in the end, it was so disappointing. More so not only that kind of word but have highlights of being grossed over the themes like using teenagers that barely appointed as combatants as the new generation of Jaegers but also publishing the acts in cordial nationalism, ridiculous Mary Sue plot armor and useless degenerative output of how gigantic robots moved. Its like watching a generative design truly made to enticed only younger audiences than the whole community. This blockbuster is a great loss to the mecha genre that many appreciated. The sequel is really nothing but a waste of money, disgusting mentality from the executives and lackluster theme developed over narcissistic oversight in society.

Two of the things I liked best about this film (which is... my favourite so, I loved everything really) are: 1. The success with which Del Toro showed us the scale of the monsters and robots, and the "readability" of the fight scenes. You can not only understand perfectly what is going on, but you actually grasp how menacing and gigantic the Kaiju are, and it's... rare, to say the least, in modern cinema. It's SO enjoyable and exciting too! 2. The sheer honesty in the emotions displayed. It's supposed to be a fun movie, sure. But it's so much more. The relationship between Chuck, his father and Max is moving, the trust with which Raleigh dives into his friendship with Mako despite his grief, Hermann and Newt finally understanding each other after their drift (always loved how they fought, interrupted each other and didn't listen to one another, but right after the drift, they finish each other's sentences and just... get along). There is so much to say about the greatness of this movie, and I'm so happy Del Toro was able to make it despite the irony and cynicism being so prevalent in super productions lately.

Hey man, amazing job as always, been following your channel for ages now, and as always enjoyed every second of the video. Got an offer how about this title: “Gentlemen” an unusual one for sure. But I reckon you have seen it and enjoyed it as much as I did. There is no mystery or mythical creatures or even a sci-fi motives. It’s just a movie about ppl. Bad ppl. Might like it.

The fight between Gypsy Danger and Leatherback was hella dope. Gypsy ripping off Leatherbacks emp, Gypsy getting thrown to the city and both of them charging towards each other made my inner kid scream with joy. This movie was a treat.

I think the shots that really emphasise the scale or the monsters is what sets it apart from the sequel, there are so many brilliant scenes that are almost shot from ground level looking up at the giant beasts and bots going at it making the battles feel large and overwhelming in a good way. Where as the sequel film had too many floaty camera shots that didn’t help express the scale of the monsters

I remember seeing the billboard for this movie and not knowing anything about it when I went to go see it. I saw it 3 more times in the theater and bought the 2-disc DVD special edition. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I wish Del Toro had written the second movie, which was disappointing and didn’t have the same heart as the first. Now they probably won’t make another one and this could easily have been an amazing trilogy or just a standalone feature. Thanks for covering Pacific Rim Niyat!

What I liked about Pacific Rim was the unpredictability of Kaiju. You could fight one that is capable of camouflaging itself,one that can stretch limbs,or even one that can grow as time goes on.
