Victorinox penknife - though it’s not suitable for air travel. Otherwise a powerbank and this tiny 6in1 cable InCharge.

I travel dual bags. Cargo so I can pack a Victorinox pocket knife and carry on for all the batteries and expensive tech gear (computer and photographic). Many of the products I would recommend are no longer available. e.g. I have the Side-by-side tech pouch. Eagle Creek packing cubes very light weight tough I expect the current range to be as good. Sewing kit - a few needles, some cotton thread, safety pin. On every long tip I have needed it at least once. For tooth paste I was given a 25ml sample. Lasted the month. For soap Lush shampoo bar still using it two months after I came back. Chain and padlock. Even if you think you are watching your stuff it can disappear in an instant so if not in your hand chain it down. I took a GPS tracker, stopped working on the flight out and only started working on the day I returned. SIM on contract still adding 10GBP every 120 days so "grew" hundreds in credit. On returning to the UK I pinged it to see where it was - sat for a long time 400 metres from me but at least not on a different flight.

Of these, my kid's favorite is the Matador toothpaste tube. She hates mint toothpaste, so now, we have options. I never travel without iPad mini, Beats Fit Pros and Vapur collapsible water bottle.

Another request:- how about an episode on carry on packing for a long flight -1) passport holders and essentials in case stuck on tarmac 2) long layover and carryon for sleeping in transit etc 3) reaching destination but bags delayed. All this of course in a 15lb carryon & laptop bag.

So about that refillable toothpaste tubes, been looking for one for years and I finally gave up, and suddenly found a great alternative. Most travel size toothpaste tubes have the same size opening as their bigger siblings, I found out one night, that if you clear the air out of the travel tube and hold it mouth to mouth to the regular size tube, you can very easily refill, and yes recycle, the travel tube. I do this at a time when I’m about to brush my teeth, any little extra spill goes on the toothbrush, both tubes are capped and voila. Been doing this for the past few years, since some travel size tubes are almost as expensive as their bigger counterparts, this trick comes in handy.

I am so glad that someone finally came up with a refillable travel-size toothpaste tube! I have been using a small, round 2 ounce container for my toothpaste. It is fine and I don't mind using it, but I think that a tube is still ideal! Bravo Matador!

Stojo containers are pretty great, I've got some of the cups, water bottles, bowls, and boxes. My kids use theirs at school or on outings and I take mine when I am out of the house. I remember when they started out as some new dad's wanting a better take away cup for coffee when meeting up for playdates with their kids. They called it the SmashCup back then though.

Haven't used toothpaste for at least a year now. I use the tablets. No plastic waste, no problems with liquids on flights. They come in a paper pack and the starter kit I got has a glass bottle to keep them in the bathroom at home. For travel, there was a cute little tin in the set to keep a dozen or so tablets in. I pad it out with a piece of toilet paper or tissue.

So happy to see Stojo featured jn PH! Stojo containers are GREAT! Unlike so many collapsible containers these are very easy to clean and can come completely apart and most importantly go back together as if new! I can’t say enough about these. I have 2 sizes of the coffee cups, a 20oz water bottle and the containers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Refillable toothpaste tubes! Extremely clever, instead of the need to buy a smaller toothpaste for ur trip. Is there somewhere u can buy them where they are shipping to EU? I was also interested of that "flat pack soap bar case" that u reviewed earlier. But on their website they didn't ship to where I live, I really would like to buy them. :(

Well, that refillable tooth paste thing ... honestly, I don't get it why people still use tooth paste during travels. It is extra weight, extra security issue at the airport, and if the tube gets smashed your bag and everything inside is full of this paste ... I use tooth powder. Since decades and not only during travels, but also at home. For travels one can pack the required amount in a small zip bag or so. But usually I carry more since it is totally multipurpose, works also great e.g. for scrubbing pans, polishing chrome or cleaning your hands after a motorcycle repair ... (yeah, makes them even smell like peppermint or so). Tooth powder is exactly the same thing as tooth paste but without the liquid component which is neither needed nor useful. Most common brand here (in India) is even Colgate, the company which also sells tooth paste. For a multiple of the price of tooth powder, just to say that ... Don't feel like a missionary but: ey guys, at least give it a try! 😁
@PackHacker
@PackHacker Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your insights with us! 😃 Do you have a brand recommendation? -Eric
@bangalorebobbel
@bangalorebobbel Жыл бұрын
@@PackHacker Well, can't really give a globally valid brand recommendation. I'm using since decades the standard Colgate Tooth Powder which is marketed here in India as Colgate Super Rakshak and available at literally every corner shop at dirt cheap rates. But I guess alone here in India are at least two dozens of other brands available, a lot of them come with activated charcoal or extra whitening stuff, or rock salt or sea salt or whatever Ayurvedic Herb mixes and so on. I am happy with my ordinary Colgate powder but I would suggest to google or check on Amazon what is in your specific country available and then try one of these offers - whatever makes you happy, works. No hrm intended, I just came up with the topic when I found here that tooth paste thing. Which is undeniable totally nice, if you use tooth paste, of course, but the first question to me is why to use tooth paste at all? It is basically nothing special, whether you do the AT or PCT with your rucksack or enjoy travelling by air as one bag/ personal items freak, always the same two aspects are usually critical for us: volume and weight. Everybody wants to minimize these two aspects in the luggage. Using tooth powder instead of tooth paste fits in that scheme as well as using a soap bar instead of liquid soap or having Nivea Creme instead of Nivea Milk, or bringing a dehydrated noodle meal before you pack a can of Tortelloni or preferring beef jerky instead of a can of Spam ,or nuts over raisins and raisins over fresh grapes - you always want to avoid unneccessary humidity (=weight) and volume. So, yes, tooth powder is nothing special but even totally basic. Yet funnily one of these miraculously unknown little travel hack details many people don't know, at least not before they read almost endless commentary novels as it happened to you when you reached this smiley: 🤣 And finally coming back to the tooth paste tube thing: ever thought of using it for other stuff, like e.g. tomato puree, jam or peanut butter? 😁

Those crystal deodorant things irritated my skin more than any normal deodorant ever has and did absolutely nothing to reduce odor. They also left me feeling kind of sticky and gross. Not gonna lie, I have a few coworkers who swear by them and they all smell like bad BO, so I'm not convinced they work for anyone.

That refillable toothpaste tube is like the worst idea. It creates more plastic that is less biodegradable than the cheapy travel versions. It's a total virtue signaling product that does virtually nothing to reduce plastic waste, because it actually produces more plastic. If you want to do your part just RECYCLE your plastic items, like the little hotel shampoo bottles....
@nigelherbert2147
@nigelherbert2147 Жыл бұрын
LOL someone obviously doesn't have to worry about using a particular toothpaste like a sensitive, etc while doing lots of short travel. I often do 3-5 day trips, where I'm just doing carry on and I guess that I'm just lucky that the only types of toothpaste that work for me don't come in travel size. Should I buy a full size tube everywhere that I go, or should I go with the virtue-signalling approach? Do you feel like climbing down off your moral high horse yet?
@KVDC2008
@KVDC2008 Жыл бұрын
@@nigelherbert2147 Actually, if you need to carry toothpaste with you, you can always buy another type of plastic container that is easier to refill that this contraption. You bend that end of that plastic tube enough times, it will start to crack. I'm not telling people to not buy it, just that the product is not as environmentally friendly as it claims to be.

Classic. A product that clearly has medical benefit isn't "environmentally friendly". Then when called on it, back pedals. That's a yikes from me. I do not get why folks can't seem to get that a product that doesn't make sense for you can be vital to someone else. Empathy is free y'all.
