Now I know the secret sauce for Sean and Emily: Emily is tiny and weighs next to nothing. When your passenger and yourself already weigh 170kg/375lbs, with the passenger being much heavier, you don’t really want to take much more, especially with a bad back. Maybe I should get a trike, ha. Really nice set up.

Very informative list there. The only thing we didn't use on our week long trip was packing cubes. We haven't yet got into these, mainly because our panniers aren't as large as yours so all our clothes are packed into ziplock bags, all the air squashed out and then rolled to save space. We both had the clothes we needed for each day in a separate bag, it worked well but we quickly realised that over the winter we need to buy thinner clothing items such as lightweight trousers as normal ones are so bulky. We also had to return our tent which we purchased and so will be looking for another, the 3 man was nice and roomy but maybe we will downsize to a 2 man to save a little more room. Our biggest space disaster was taking normal inflatable mattresses - just 2 of these with the sleeping bags filled our topbox......not ideal. So, lots of great ideas here and I feel sure the more touring you do, the more the packing gets easier!
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 9 ай бұрын
Hi, it's funny how long it took us to find the perfect packing cube to fit the panniers =) -never before have the size specs of packing cubes been analysed so much lol Squashing the air out of the clothes with ziplock bags must save a lot of space too! The 2 man tent we have is as small as we think possible as it still has a bit of room to keep some gear inside, and also a decent vestibule area -but most importantly the poles fit length ways in the pannier! Yeah exactly, the more we tour the more we realised what we used all the time and what we didn't use so often. In case you would like a detailed description of our gear we have listed it all on our website: seanandemilytravels.com/equipment Cheers and have a great day Sean and Emily

Hi Pedro! Great to hear from you and it's really nice to hear you like the format of our channel. Yeah our channel is not all about the bike (although we do talk about it sometimes =) and everything is recorded live as we don't get second chances whilst on the bike so the emotions are real which we appreciate you noticing. If you need locations we do include the locations in the time stamps in the descriptions so perhaps that's useful to you and we will be adding a blog onto our website -there is a map there already. We also have plenty of videos of riding in the Swiss alps incase you are looking for some information on that to. I highly recommend wiring everything via a Healtec Thunderbox. It simply connects to the battery then you plug your accessories into that. The device only provides power once it detects the bike is running and then shuts off when it detects the bike is off. Cost around £60!

A good alternative to a lot of thick sweaters, fleece jackets or such is a heated vest or jacket like Venture Heat or similar! I almost never freeze, I rather have a problem to be cool enough, BUT when I have been in Norway and have ridden over the mountain passes it can be so nice to get the heat from inside on the front, back and also the neck area 😊

@SeanandEmily 6 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your message and welcome to our channel. That’s great that you’re happy with the Touratech products they are really good? Hopefully the restaurants we find are useful to you as well then 😊 The Metzler tires did great, offered good grip on the wet, good longevity and performed well off road -the only thing they didn’t do well was grip in the mud but then I wouldn’t expect an 80/20 tire to do that anyhow. In the end we got 10,000 Km out of them but has loads of tread on the sides so on a regular tour that didn’t have so many straights they would have lasted longer. I’ve replaced them with the same tire as I liked them. Thanks for watching Sean and Emily 😊👍🏻

Hello both, I stumbled across your excellent vlog, you really do your packing similar to me, and we have the exact same bike even down to the triple black, the only major difference to you is I use the 13.5 litre per side pannier extenders rather than the roll bags. I'm looking forward to viewing your Scandinavian tour, as I will be doing the same next year, all being well. Thank you.

Hi Stephen, thanks very much and we are glad you found it! Great minds think alike =) We tried the 13.5 litre extenders and really liked them however we found they restrict the pillions legs and the corner digs in a little bit, so we opted for the roll bags and set them bag a little bit. We’ve just got back from 2 week round trip uk, to Austria, Switzerland and back. Wanted to ask you about this. Our cloths clearly very bulky!😅
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 9 ай бұрын
Hehe Yeah he's not doing too badly =). Thanks for your comment! Launderettes are usually not too difficult to find and we do use them if we have time. Most of our riding clothes (T-shirt, Shorts, Leggings, underwear etc) are made from quick dry sport material which we can wash daily in the sink or shower. We also carry a mini travel washing line which helps a lot to dry them. Also merino wool stays fresh for a long time and is also fast drying. I hope you had a great trip, Switzerland and Austria are 2 of the best places to ride! Cheers Sean and Emily

Hi guys Do you think you could fit 2 standard size helmets plus your biking clothing in the side panniers and top box if they were empty ? We’re thinking about which panniers / top box to get. We like getting to a destination then having a hike in normal clothes while everything is locked safely on the bike ( we used to have a bmw r1200 rt and we could do that with that bike ) Many thanks. Loving the channel btw
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 8 ай бұрын
Hi Jim, Yes we can get our 2 adventure helmets in the bike as well as most of our gear when they are empty but there is never room for the boots! We tend to bring a bike chain and put the helmets through that, we have even put the sleeves of the two jackets in each other and a leg form the pants through the chain first thus locking everything. Another option is the pac safe system which we used in Spain Here they are being used at 2:46 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZ5kl9Ro2KjdnX0.htmlsi=baNiIrlJHjnLHguY We are so glad to hear you are enjoying the channel and we hope to hear from you again. Another great video thanks. Are the panniers and top box larger than the normal size touratech ones that come with the gsa ? Were wanting to camp ourselves, we’ve seen a similar tent to yours and are wondering whether it would fit in standard panniers or are we going have to order larger ones. We’ll be buying the bike over the next few weeks and ordering the touratech top box and panniers at the same time. Many thanks
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 9 ай бұрын
Hi Jim, thanks for your kind words of support! Yes the Touratech Zega EVO X panniers are slightly larger that the OEM ones (also made by touratech). We have the ZEGA Evo X special system 45/45 in black. as well as the ZEGA Evo Topcase 38 which is also a bit bigger than standard. The MSR tent fits exactly without having to go on an angle so i would recommend that tent (it's also a great tent!) -you can see it being used in the Heading South Tour and we use it on this tour too. We did look at getting the pannier extenders for the OEM cases however the additional height really gets in the way of the pillions legs so is rather uncomfortable. We are really happy with this system and the extra few litres really does make the world of difference. Also be sure to get the Touratech foam backrest for the top box. I hope that's helpful, if you need any more info just drop us a comment (it's easier for us to see new comments on other videos as sometimes replies to replies get lost) All the best and kind regards Sean and Emily Panniers: www.touratech.com/zega-evo-x-special-system-for-bmw-r1250gs-r1250gs-adventure-r1200gs-ab-2013-r1200gs-adventure-ab-2014.html Topbox: www.touratech.com/zega-evo-topcase-and-black-38-litres-with-rapid-trap.html Foam Cushion: www.touratech.com/backrest-cushion-for-zega-evo-zega-pro-topcase.html seanandemilytravels.com/equipment

Great video!! This helped me a lot for my summer trip 2024. It went from "how the hell do I even start with this" to "Yeah let's do this" :) I do wonder how you bring all your work you've done in Google (My) Maps to your GPS? Can you extract the GPX files? Or maybe there is a way to navigate the routes made via Google maps on the smartphone? I currently running only My Route App and Calimoto both on the PC and the smartphone, so I make my routes there but its tedious work, going back and forth between the route planner and Google maps and then relocate all the POI's. Your approach seems way more efficient. I recently watched the whole entire Heading Nort episodes and it was EPIC, You guys documenting so much, build a story and it looks so professional it even looks like your watching a series on Netflix, Kudos for that. Thanks for sharing all of this, keep up the good work and hope to see much more of you guys!!
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 6 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks ever so much for you encouraging comment! 😎👍🏻 It’s great to hear that the videos are a help. Yeah there is a way to extract to GPX from google maps but it’s not so straight forward. What we tend to do is have the POI’s and route in google maps and as we never know how far we will get each day we just plan our day in the morning, just putting in the points manually as we need them or Em will give directions from her phone. This way we can change the route or add and miss destinations as needed. In case you need any more info on our equipment or routes we have them on our website: (we don’t necessarily take everything for each trip) seanandemilytravels.com/equipment Thanks again for your comment! 😊 Sean and Emily

Great videos and adventure. Would live to know how the Touratech helmet works with peak and what made you choose it vs say a Shoei Neotech 3 that I was thinking of getting 🙏🏽
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 9 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment and really glad you like the videos. So as with all peaked helmets it's kind of a playoff between the convenience of blocking the sun and comfort on faster journeys. I found this helmet was actually comfortable on motorways (as long as you keep it tipped downwards) you can however remove the peak with a couple of screws. For a flip up helmet it's actually fairly light as it's carbon. but as with all helmets it comes down to whether it fits right, this one is manufactured by Nexx and I've had one before so i knew it would fit well. best bet is to go and try on as many as you can -most you will know instantly if they don't feel right. Hi. The Google tip is awesome. I'm just trying to figure it out how save the points along the route save it in my tom tom as gpx only saves the route but not the stopping points

Hi Robert, we tend to use the google map as a reference for when we are on the road. As we are never sure where we will be each day we just add the points into the GPS each morning at breakfast. It would be nice if google maps could seamlessly export to GPX.

@@SeanandEmily kml and kmz files can easily be converted into gpx but after conversion gpx file won't save the stopping points , all need to be added again in the tomtom app but still thanks again

Would recommend to not put the water bottle full of water in the same box as all your electronics. Personal experience with a leaking waterbottle kinda killed my laptop haha. Question: what is the reason you choose for hardcases instead of soft ones? Still indecisive on the easiness of hardcases but more roughness of the soft ones.

True, laptop and fragile are in the side pannier and the top case keeps the water bottle upright (the bigger water bottle lives upright in the top box). Laptops are so fragile! -I once spilled a drip of tea on one and it killed it instantly 🤪. We went with hard cases as they are better for security, easier to take on and off, totally waterproof, double up as a table and chairs and enable us to strap additional bags on top. As they are aluminium they don’t actually take up that much more weight than soft bags.

Don’t you carry any chair and table? Like Helinox.

Hi, we are trying to keep things as compact as possible as we have lots of camera/recording equipment so we use our panniers and top box as a table and chairs =)
