I'm so relieved to have this done! Packing my hospital bag as a first time mom took a little bit of research but I think I have most of what I need (let me know in the comments if I'm missing something). If you are a mom to be I hope this helps you a bit with how to organize your hospital bag!
Don't forget to head over to watch Alyssa's video packing her hospital bag when you are done with mine!

Hairbrush, hair ties, snacks for dad, a stocking for a picture since you are having a December baby (my third was born on 12/21)...baby will fit in to it. Hard candy for dry mouth. I can't wait to see your precious bundle. Congratulations to you and Jim!

Another suggestion to have for baby: a pair of little mittens. Newborns tend to touch their face, so in order not to scratch their face, and also to keep his hands warm in the colder weather.

I think your list is great! Two time mom here...have you husband pack his bag soon so he is also ready. Make sure you put some snacks in his bag for him. He may not want to leave your bedside depending on what’s happening but will probably be hungry. I packed my husband stuff that wouldn’t spoil if it was in the bag for a few weeks. Trail mix, beef jerky, granola bars, Gatorade, whatever he likes. Such an exciting time! Enjoy you last weeks with just you and your husband, it’s a special time as well :)

Sophie, I think you did a great job packing. The only advice I can give is to pack a heavier blanket for baby for the ride home being it’s winter time, a few snacks for you and hubby and of course you know, a car seat. I wish you and baby a healthy delivery.

Huge help but you may already know this. You should start now if you haven't already toughing up your nipples for breast feeding. My husband and I went to a class and the nurse suggested it to prevent cracked and sore nipples. Every night before bed I would roll each nipple in a terry cloth wash cloth (nurses suggested way) followed by lanolin. I never got sore once. I so appreciated the advice. Also use the lanolin after each time baby nurses. The lanolin will not hurt the baby. I hope you don't mind my advice❤ Grandma of 4 now.

Yes! Bring your boppy!! I planned to, I was going to put it in the package it came in and bring it that way. I ended up forgetting bc I didn’t have it by my bag and I wish I had it the entire time! Also, your own pillow, I heard this and didn’t listen because I didn’t want to carry it, it would have been worth carrying! I didn’t wear any of my own clothes but a lot of people do. I haven’t read other comments, but definitely your water bottle and I loved having my mini fan with me. Oh and headphones or ear buds, so handy to have my hands free when calling people. I loved having them for more private FaceTime calls too! Snacks are nice to have for both mom and dad! Velcro swaddle, unless you are a pro at swaddling, I definitely was not. 🙈 you will not regret the belly band purchase! One of the best items I had pospartum!

Old retired nurse here...and grandma of 7 grown grand babies.. If it's cold you need a onesie and extra warm blankets for baby. A swatle is not enough for the trip home. And it's a good idea to add a couple of diapers and wipes just in case the hospital doesn't give you extras. Can't wait to meet your little one. Best wishes and huggs. ❤❤

A swaddle will not allow the baby to be properly (safe) seated in the car seat. His arms need to be free, so use a blanket to cover once he’s strapped in.

I needed an extra night gown because somehow mine fell into the toilet and I would pack lots of undies... lots. Postpartum is a whole new ballgame and your body is all out of wack. I also wore clothes home from the hospital that were old yet comfortable (sweats and a tee) just incase I sprung a leak anywhere. That first shower after giving birth is the best shower you will ever take.

Things I wish I had, Tylenol for middle of the night headaches and/or cramps, snacks because you're going to be starving between meals, and your own pads (the ones the hospital provided were horrible). not sure if you have this or not, but a car seat head-support pillow is very nice to keep baby's head from flopping to one side during the drive home. Also, they're super tacky, but a baby on board sign is nice to have in the window for that first, slow, nervous drive home from the hospital. And lastly, it can be handy to have a box or two to hold flower arrangements.

It is always better to bring more than you may need rather than wish you had brought one of those items. Sounds like you researched and read a lot about postpartum, Great!. My biggest struggle was nursing, make sure you have someone in the hospital who can help you, it is not always easy, some babies have a hard time latching on and if they are not latched on properly you become sore and painful which causes the next few weeks to be difficult once you are home, and this is why many moms give up. Don't give up it is the greatest gift you will ever give to your children. Bring your nursing pillow :)

Great job packing. Best advice I got was to put those water absorbent pads over your mattress but under your sheet. If your water breaks in bed, and mine did, you will save your mattress. Enjoyed the video. You can wrap your boppy in a trash bag so it stays clean if you don't use it. I wish I had thought to bring mine (many years ago). Consider taking your nail clipper gadget. Sophie, I love your channel and hope your delivery goes well! I am pregnant with baby #3 and my tips for your hospital bag is to pack a skirt (long one since it will be cold) if you can. After delivery sometimes you can be sore or have stitches down under and you will already be wearing some type of underwear with a giant pad (I recommend Depends for women-way more comfortable and secure) and so wearing pants or anything form fitting can put pressure down there where you might not want it. Lastly, maybe you already are planning on this one, but I take a stool softener while I am still in the hospital (some hospitals will give you one and some won't) so I always bring my own. Congratulations!

I didn't bring my boppy for my July birth and I think that was the right decision for me. He was so bundled and you're in a someone lifted hospital bed, so it was easy/comfortable enough for me to nurse him just supporting him with my arms. Caveat, he had no problems latching. Also, thick socks were the best/most necessary thing I brought! My L&D room was sooo cold and if you get an epidural it can give you shivers.

I think I’m going against majority here, but I decided against bringing my boppy and I was glad I did. I left it in the car. The Lactation Consultants in the hospital had one I could use AND they had a pillow case for it so I didn’t have to mess with washing mine once I got home. I had a baby in December 2020, so making sure that we washed everything after getting home was more important than ever. One tiny bit of advice that I’m glad I took so I’ll pass on: anytime they offer a lactation consultant, take it. I saw three LCs and got better and better each time I saw them. And they brought samples of everything. I had so much lanolin cream, I’m still using it as lip balm a year later, lol. Good luck, Mazal Tov, and B’hetzlachah!

I brought my boppy pillow with me but didn’t use it for baby. I ended up using it to get comfortable in the hospital bed (I would put it between my knees when I laid on my side). Take everything the hospital provides when you are going home! It’s all so handy! I honestly didn’t use much of what I brought with me except my robe and obviously the clothes I wore home. Hi Sophie, loved the video. I would bring the Boppy simply because if you are having issues with breastfeeding, you will have nursing staff to help you and guide you (some babies have a harder time latching on than others), and you might as well get used to breastfeeding with the Boppy straight away...I feel that it's more comfortable for you and for the baby as well. Looks like you thought of everything ! I'm in the Montreal (Canada) area, and the hospitals here provide next to nothing. I even had to bring my own box of kleenex and pads. I would also bring a warm blanket for your little man for the car ride home. Try to rest as much as possible before the birth. I know it's stressful...but..just take a deep breath... You GOT this mama ! 😊

My suggestion is pack a small purse or tote with anything you want while you are in labor, iPad, headphone, phone charger, socks, chapstick, hair ties, small comb etc..and bring that into the hospital with you when you check in. Leave the rest in your car. Once you are through L&D and in recovery get your other bags. It can become a lot to tote around. Keep an extra bag or bags in your car for the stuff the hospital sends you home with, ours sent us home with diapers, swaddles, lots of paperwork, and postpartum stuff with me. When you are ready to be discharged; send your husband down with all of your bags and then bring the car seat up. I ended up having a C-section; so recovery was a little different and I couldn’t get up for a long time, so body cleansing and makeup remover wipes were nice to have before I could shower. Snacks for your room; you won’t get much sleep in the hospital and it’s nice to have a granola bar at 3am while feeding. Packing cubes were a life saver, if you can, label the outsides, you may not be the one going through them. Gerber makes long sleeve kimono style shirts, we loves those for the first few weeks of life, and wish I would have had them for the hospital; keeps baby warm, doesn’t irritate the belly button and makes diaper changes easy. Best of luck to you!

Congratulations and best wishes for a swift and safe delivery for a happy , healthy baby boy! As an experienced mother of 6 and grandma to 15 (so far lol) I think you’ve planned and packed well. I would maybe advise snacks for your husband for during labor (sorry you won’t be able to partake…I remember with my first I was only allowed Ice chips and lemon drops lol) however, you may wish to pack your favorite snacks for after delivery and during your stay. Hospitals will have a limited variety and you really won’t want to wait for staff to deliver your snacks , especially when nursing 😉 also ..may want to consider exactly who you want to be visiting you while you’re in the hospital and even after you’re home. As exciting as meeting the new addition is, you will be exhausted and adjusting to your precious blessing and his schedule…may want to set up visiting hours of your own (limited to only a certain period of the day when you feel you may be more receptive) and provide the time to friends and family so you don’t have people dropping in thru out the day which can be even more tiring for you as you feel the need to play hostess when all you want to do is sleep

Wow sounds like you have a beautiful family! We need to toss some snacks in there for him for sure! Thanks for the tips on visitors as well, we have been struggling with that a bit. I am hoping to have some time alone just as a new family of three before being flooded with visitors. I don't think we will actually end up with any visitors in the hospital with the current restrictions, but the idea of visiting hours when we get home is so smart!

It was quite a while ago when I had my baby, so take this with a grain of salt. But there were separate rooms for labor, delivery, and afterwards. So it might be good to pack one bag for entertaining yourself during labor and another for when you check in to your regular room and then maybe another for going home stuff. And don’t bring everything in at once. Hospital rooms are so small and cluttered as is.

I believe that is actually still the case at my hospital. Really smart since I wont want to be digging (or rather asking Jim to dig) into my large suitcase for something like chapstick while in labor!

Bring a printout of your medications. Also, check what your hospital’s length of stay policy is. Some send the family home the same day, so a lot of your stuff may not be needed. Bring it all, just in case you c-sec and do stay for several days. You - will - be - tired, so sleep whenever you can, even though you’ll be “flying high” with excitement and gratitude. Consider switching out some of the black/gray items for color. The makeup is brilliant.

Thank you for all of the tips!! I will check on the lengthy of stay policy for sure! I do know at my hospital it is minimum 24 hrs after birth so depending on how long labor is it will probably be a couple day stay at least!

They give you nipple butter and you will need it. If baby is not hurting you yet the pumping will. One thing I would 💯 recommend is a super mini Fridge (like the 6 can kind) because otherwise you will have to wash your pump parts every time you pump...so 8-12 times a day, or you can put it in the fridge and just wash once a day. When we were in the hospital my hubby was washing my pump parts round the clock and it was exhausting!!!

We just put a mini fridge upstairs but I hadn't thought about putting pump parts in them to prolong the amount of time before you have to wash them, so smart! Thanks!!

Pack some extra nightgowns and maybe a bed jacket and leave them in the car unless you need them. When my first was born, I had to stay in the hospital for 5 days due to unforeseen complications and I wished I had something clean to wear. You might need to change several times a day. I found we had a lot to take home, so I'd leave the pillow at home.

Hello Sophie 🙂 As to advice I think the two comments here at this point are most likely best guidance from us all. My daughter did not take her nursing pillow with her but I can see how it could be helpful. I remember how I felt when I left the hospital many years ago and I wish I’d had some sort of support garment, not common in those days. I believe you are VERY well prepared and if you feel you are taking too much-think-I don’t believe there is anything wrong with being over prepared. It IS a problem if you have to send your husband to go and get those things. Perhaps some of what you mentioned might be kept in the car so he could easily access those things rather than hunting them down. Mention that to him if he believes it seems as though it is a lot. Now, I didn’t know you had suffered a miscarriage. Words are inadequate in such an experience. My heart being with you, I would say to you now-REST UP! You WILL need every bit of energy you can muster. It will all go very fast. We are ALL, I know, pulling for you both and looking forward to your sharing your little one when you both feel the time is appropriate. I have 3 granddaughters. The latest is 5 months old, another is 15, and the first born in 2000 is in college! Sending our best support for the birth of your little one, your family! Bless You!!

Thank you so much for all of the kind words! I hadn't thought about bringing stuff and leaving some items in the car, but that is a great approach for items I'm on the fence about. Congratulations on the new grandchild, sounds like you have a beautiful family! 💗

For postpartem bleeding, I would recommend the Always Discreet underwear (diapers). I know it sounds weird but I've seen so many youtubers recommend them because they are so much better for bleeding and ease than the huge pads and mesh underwear! Also if you get a 'skims' tank top (like one supposed to help tuck in your tummy a little in the lingerie section) that'll help with tummy support

Maybe you should ask the hospital what they provide for the baby and for you. Here (Italy) it really depends on the hospital. For example not all provide "extra" soap for the baby. It will be a great experience! You're very organized and this will help but please remember you cannot forsee everything. And that's ok! Relax Take care of yourself! Enjoy your family!

Sorry, here comes some personal advice 🙈 but I recommend bringing a bottle, a regular one or a peri. The first days after a vaginal birth it can sting badly when you pee. Pouring water at the same time really makes it less painful. 🌸

Some hospitals will provide you with a nursing pillow if you need it. I took it with my 1st but not with no 2 or 3. Also Pack extra blankets, for you and your hubby, our hospitals gave us thin and small blankets I love those pj's as a mom they are so easy. Yes that is true with the socks Snacks One 🏥 spoiled us the other 2 um yeah Let's just say my husband was starving. Also your insurance will provide a breast pump and they are nice. One every 3 to 5 years I live in the sports bra and tank camis Be prepared to stay between 3 to 5 days postpartum. Portable battery pack A clear zip folder, staples and Amazon has them. This is to keep the birth certificate and all the paperwork dry and safe. A nice pin that doesn't smear and sharpie A water bottle you don't mind if it gets accidentally left behind. Also if you need to take baby to the doctor for anything, he's covered under your card for 30 days

You’re not going to need to have your bag when you go to the hospital. Have your hubby bring it the next day. Also, I’d leave the boppy pillow at home. You will be leaving the hospital to go home with a ton of stuff including flower arrangement and gifts, and it will just be one more large item to cart home
