PACU: The Handoff

Using cognitive aids like handoff/transfer checklists to reduce variability when transferring patient care, improves patient care. The checklist is used to verify that the essential points of care are discussed. Everybody forgets something.

Really helpful video. Have you any idea what questions might be asked in a PACU interview?

The opportunity for the PACU nurse to follow up with any questions is an important part of the handoff. Questions on a patient's past medical history, intra-op course, and any expected recovery issues are some that might be asked. All handoffs should include, "are there any questions or concerns".

Shouldn't that other be wearing a scrub? I'm a pacu niurse for over 15 years and we all need to wear proper scrubs.

well, not in the hospital i work for. They won't even let us wear something under our scurbs.

+Keka Olan , check out a basic nursing degree, get some general nursing experience and then look for a specific post anesthetic care unit experience

if we're not going in the restricted area, not necessary. I wear my own scrubs to work in PACU. If I need to go into the OR or the CORE, I would need to change
