Fantastic! I came upon this by accident but was wondering if I was doing this properly. This is all really great advice that I can't wait to try.

Great tips! Love some Cape Lookout too. This has given me more confidence to get out there to try SUP instead of just rivers. Thank you.

This is the best advise I have come across on internet. And I caught it just in time for my paddle session of today. I practised the core paddle but I totally forgot the straight arms. Now, I don't know if I did that or not. :-) I'll focus on the straight arms in 3 days, my next paddle session :-) .

I keep coming back to this video again and again! This is one of the best instruction videos on how to paddle properly - and I also send it to men who are learning. The principles are the same.

Esmaralda, can I ask your advice for the inflatable paddle boards. Are they any good? I was hoping they were less heavy to carry to the beach and back?

@@LeifLorentz I’ve ridden some good iSUPs; they were thin and more like a SUP. My friend has an iSUP because he has space issues, but it is as heavy as my 10.6 SUP out of the water. His board is also too thick - I can’t even get on it from the water! It is very bouncy, which makes balancing trickier. It is causing his learning process to go slower. He pumps it up every time, too, which is an added 20-30 min before getting on the water. I love my SUP. It was heavy for me at first and is heavier than some 11-footers, but I can now easily maneuver it (I am not a big woman). With practice, it has become no problem. If you can try both types before you buy, this is best. I hope this helps you. Peace.

@@esmeralda478 Oh thank you so much! I will stick to a non-inflatable one. How long would you recomment? I saw one at 10 feet. Does it have to be that long? Sorry for all the questions.

@@LeifLorentz I am 5'4" and 120 lbs and have a 10'6". It is perfect. If you get a 10-footer, you should be my size or smaller. There are videos on KZfaq about selecting the correct size; check them out! Good luck! Love.

Oh man! I didn't realize this was supposed to be a women specific video until you said so at the end. Can you point me to a man specific one? I suppose my aerodynamics are different. :-(

Wise guy!! Yeah as a guy I found it totally useful - there is nothing specific to either gender here.

@@MayoOlagundoye Maybe not but, apparently, women feel they need instruction specific for them. As is obvious right when we get told this by the woman in the video. Personally I had a very hard time with her instruction. So perhaps it was 'specific to women' after all. The instruction that is, not the techniques. Or perhaps I simply need a different approach toward understanding the technique. No instruction, or instructor, will reach every learner equally well.

I'm with Kyle, I don't understand why something like this is women specific? Do you not like to give instruction to men? why?

Um, everything is geared toward men (but a man might not notice such things). This video is something unique (geared toward women), but the principles are the same. Don't take it personally! Peace.
