It's more just shining a light on the horrors of the pharmaceutical industry's pushing of oxycontin as a non-addictive drug *Purdue, Richard Sackler* I love in A LOT of pain too, and have to get by on suboxone which is very effective combined with clonazepam and gabapentin for both musucular and nerve pain. My rheumatoid arthritis im trying to find an effective treatment for. the key is, and you probably know this, to not use these meds to strictly cover up your pain but to use it for physical therapy, or preventative. Example: RA is degenerative so my joints are permanently disformed. I'm a fmr Army Ranger and currently work in the political left teaching LBTGQ people how to shoot sidearms and how to handle them, I also like to practice in competition shooting. It's expensive when you can't work consistently, and when RA fatigue settles in, at my best? I'm truly one of the best locally and probably could rank nationally, at my worst? I can barely keep up. It's painful as hell, I also boxed half my life and also am a martial artist specializing in FMA, Emerson Knife boxing, american arwology and Krav Maga style combat, a lot of knife stuff (and HEMA, sword stuff) so it really sucks seeing my hands deform and whatnot. the meds helkp and are insnaley expensive without aid. It's disgusting, our whoel medical system is disgusting. The fact is: if we had universal healthcare and treated addiction like a disease and chronic pain as something that affects both mind and body, we could do more about it. Honest conversations: Do you need thethis oxycontin and are you okay being dependent on it VS not? Do you have a doctor that will taper vs just throw you off, etc? Most people I know that wound up on heroin like myself got thrown off their meds quite suddenly, because doctors largely don't know shit about tapering Id highly suggest a subutext/suboxone and MAYBE methadone addiction treatment clinic where they treat pain as well. Shouold be covered under medicaid/medicare. Those long-lasting meds not only help with pain but on the sub side (having been on methadone and sub, i prefer methadone for paion but it is horrific to withdrawal from. Subs can be bad too) buit suboxone blocks other opiates and you can take it for long-term pain combined with gabapentin. I take a benzodiazpinie which is also extremely addictive but it manages seizures, severe panic, combat ptsd, and nerve pain alongside the gabapentin (1200-2200mg a day, 2mg clon, 12mg suboxone) it's done a lot for my pain and addiction management so i highly suggest it to anyone sturggling with pain or addiciton which.....one usually leads to the other in terms of medication. That's a cold reality and you gotta decide what you can live with,.

By the way, I think this is a complicated topic. I have a severe chronic illness and take lots of medication, one of them being opioids, and I understand that there is a huge number of real patients with real pain not getting the medication they deserve because of bans and opioid regulations making doctors not wanting to prescribe them, but at the same time the way the companies lie and go about creating a powerful drug without any measurement of how to deal with it when it goes to the streets its a huge problem. After reading the book Dopesick was inspired by and Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keeffe (the best book on the subject) you realize that the first wave of drug addicts from opioids still are patients in real pain, or after an injury/surgery. I think it’s a very complicated situation that where is hard to find balance.
