I love Zoro's understated role in this arc. He forces Luffy to confront what it means to be the Captain of a pirate crew, and the weight of responsibility that comes with that title.

I didn't notice before, but now that I have almost Franky's age and I'm re-reading, I get how different his perspective is from the younger characters, and how important it is that Robin has someone around her age with that kind of maturity, telling her the right things to hear. The Strawhats give to Robin peace, fun and support, but Franky is a mature confrontation, someone that can put into better words what she needs to hear. And don't misunderstand me, the Strawhats have the emotional intelligence to understand Robin, but Franky has a concrete idea of the amount of life Robin lived how she lived. He has a better grasp on the weight of that and how life can be heavy and difficult, even not living the same experience. At least this is what my 30s brain is telling me

This arc has a lot of character moments like Usopp telling Robin to trust Luffy despite him being the one that doubted Luffy before and Franky telling Robin to not blame herself despite blaming himself for Tom's Death.

About Franky, when you take a step back to look at it from his perspective, what happened was: his henchmen stole money from a bunch of random pirates, one of which came to take it back, so he beat him up. That doesn't make him a good guy, but stealing from pirates isn't technically a crime, that's basically what Nami was doing before meeting Luffy. Not so fun little detail: the only day he wore pants was the day Tom was taken to Enies Lobby.

✔️ reading through One Piece for the first time ✔️ emotionally invested ✔️ presumably unspoiled ✔️ part way into the Grand Line I'm definitely subscribing. I love to relive these moments through someone else's fresh perspective. There are honestly so many details I've forgotten, so I'm glad you're reviewing this in such detail.

The cp9 reveal was so stunning and such a great bomb drop. The klabauterman is a real sailors story. Unfortunately the crew seeing the ship's spirit is not a good omen for the ship.

Its so refreshing to hear your take, its unbelievable to me how many people react to this arc and come out saying they hated Usopp in it.

What also hurts more is that at the beginning when they got the money from the appraiser, it was Luffu that told Ussop that he will protect him. But then Liffey got distracted and Ussop got hurt. Liffy feels even more guilty because it was his fault that everything got out of hand.

I will never get over how much of a literary masterpiece Water 7 is. I love how this arc highlighted Zoro and Sanji's rightful places as Luffy's right and left hand men--the head and the heart: Zoro when it comes to encouraging Luffy to make the hard/tough calls and decisions as a captain, and Sanji's empathy--being concerned for Usopp, kicking Luffy before he says something he'll regret, him understanding Chopper's desire to warn Usopp and even going off with Chopper to shout aqua laguna is coming, etc. These come more into play in Enies Lobby as well :) I love seeing reactions to how much Water 7 has touched them, thank you for this!! You will absolutely love the story even more going forward! :) If you haven't already the fight between usopp and Luffy was incredibly well done in the anime, you should check it out! :) (I saw you already watched the Sogeking theme hehe nice)

One of my favorite zoro moments is in this arc, and it's not the captain speech. It's when kaku left the merry, zoro looks to the masthead and asks "Is it true merry? Can you not sail ever again?" Because it's his way of showing how devastated he is about hearing that. And the dub for this scene is *chef's kiss*, hell the whole dub ks good imo, especially during water 7/enies lobby.

For me, Water 7 is One Piece's coming-of-age story, both for the characters and the story itself. It's no longer about (at least somewhat) light-hearted adventures, at least not singularily so. The Strawhats have responsibilities now and their actions have consequences. The world is revealed to not just be large, but largely cruel. And the actions of the Strawhats and their reputation will place them as an important puzzle piece within that cruel world, if they want to or not.

Was waiting for this. Next arc is even crazier though tbf it's just one storyline

20:00 - Up to this point, Luffy has been shot, stabbed, cut, punched, poisoned, skewered, frozen, and blasted. On the emotional side, he has been betrayed, imprisoned, enraged, and hazed. ..and out of all of that, this is the most painful fight he has ever had.

How's that counter attack from Oda? He just gave us Hahaha vibe on Long Ring Long Land and suddenly this? Welcome to One Piece.

In the anime the bear mask guys said to Robin just "CP9". It added some mysteriousness of what is CP9 and what makes Robin so afraid about it.

When Usopp's voice broke when he was telling Nami about how he disappointed the crew, my heart really sank. One of the best voice acting I ever witnessed This arc really hurt...this whole saga really hurt, but at this point it really felt like things were just falling apart The characters were really hurting, I can write essays about what Usopp was going through. Even if we take his own feelings outside the equation, Usopp wanted to fight for Merry cause that way Merry would not have been abandoned by her crew Unpopular opinion- I think Usopp could've killed Luffy if he really meant too. He hit him various times with non lethal stuff, but used shurikens only to herd him in a direction. I totally believe that Usopp could've shot Luffy right in the mouth with a shuriken

I love and hate the Luffy v Usopp fight. Obviously it’s very emotional distressing because our crew are breaking apart at the seems. It’s such a powerful moment because we know Usopp can’t win but in his mind this is what he has to do to prove he has worth on the crew. Luffy can’t back down because of his building pride as a captain and that he can tell that this is a very serious matter for Usopp and is taking it just as seriously. Usopp puts up a hell of a fight but Luffy is has shown how powerful he really is and with Usopp’s previous injuries, he was no match for Luffy. This on top of everything that has gone wrong puts the crew at such a low point and then to see how they bounce back when they resolve themselves to save Robin was such an incredible moment! This arc is such a roller coaster of emotions and a huge step in writing in the story.

This saga is my favourite ✌️❤️

The next arc ist my absolut Favorit. IT IS the climax of all the auf that happened before. My favorit straw hats are Robin and Ussop and this is there Saga. They get theire biggest and gratest moments during this. Ussop vs Luffy and leaving the crew is one of the most soul crushing and shatering moments of this series. And the reaktion of the crew espessially Nami, who is crushed by seeing her chosen family break appart. The Merry "crying" and Luffy beeing forced to face the consequenzes of his actions directly and it feels just sad. And i didn't even talk about Robin trying to sacrefice herself to save the crew who gave her a Home and the feeling to belong. Witch makes all the Ussop stuff hurt even more because now two crew members are lost/missing. Robin beeing the soul surviver of a Buster call (whatever it my be (i of course know)) is a deeply troubeling and dark thing. And she wants to protect the others so badly from it that she is willing to sacrefice herself for the straw hats. Enies Lobby is the payoff to all of this and its f-ing perfect. The stakes, the past events shaping the presens, and the emotional tourmoil toogether with the suprises make Enies Lobby the best One Piece Arc for me. The rest is good but nothings compares to the "standof" and the following scenes for me. Fun fact I am maybe a little late but you cans See G8 and the Commander johnsen? in the Movie "the dead end race" for a short moment. It is a little nod of agnolegment to the best filler I ever watched.

I think that Vivi is important in why Luffy accept what Iceberg says. She scolled him when they got to Drum to let his pride go to save his crew (Nami) and I think that has stuck with Luffy ever since. So anyone dissing on Vivi should just eat their hearth out;P

From Nami not caring about losing $200 million belli to Zoro being immediately dead serious and putting on his bandana, the Strawhats response to seeing one of their own get hurt will never never get old, even after 15+ years of following the series.

Usopp is a super human too. It seems he is normal at the surface but just think: his dad is a right hand of *Shanks's title* who is a monster on his own accord, he takes immense damage and keeps on going, he can make all sorts of things like Namis pole, he gets "the ability" without training with a legend, he can carry a bag the size of a small house. Don't underestimate Usopp.
