Ladies, this is an important conversation! Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, board-certified OB/GYN, joins Kaitlyn to educate and empower women to advocate for their health. For far too long, women have been dismissed in the doctor’s office with significant health concerns going undiagnosed. And, you know what? Enough is enough! Are you experiencing irregular periods? Do you have acne? Do you have male pattern hair loss? Well, you could have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). Dr. Aliabadi explains what PCOS is, how to self-diagnose, and shares steps to manage symptoms. She also sheds light on another commonly undiagnosed disease affecting fertility-endometriosis. Knowledge is power; remember, painful periods are NOT normal, and you’re not alone.

Thanks for this episode! I struggled even though I am thin and was ecstatic when I went through menopause in my early 40s. Now, I have a daughter with irregular periods, weight gain, hair loss, and mood swings. She was thin and did not have mood swings until she started having periods. I do not want her to have wait like I did.

So happy you did, can we have more episodes like this? I don't have PCOS or endo but I'm constantly having cyst on my ovaries that don't burst and I'm tired of having laparoscopic surgery. I would love if there's a way to get more information on other treatments to stop cysts from forming and not bursting

I recently got diagnosed with endometriosis. Been telling my primary care doctor for 8 years about my painful periods. Couldn't walk or move on my period because of the pain. They were always not very concerned/dismissive so I thought it was normal. Finally went to a obgyn this year who was familiar with it. Life changing.

I battled infertility and PCOS & it took me 10 years (& 4 miscarriages) until I conceived my son. I was told by my male infertility doctor that I was fat & needed to lose weight. I told him I tried every diet, pill, & exercise & he literally told me to "JUST STOP EATING." 😮 I was humiliated right in front of my husband. I found a new doctor immediately, but I couldn't even eat in front of my husband without feeling guilt & shame for quite some time. Every bite of food was ruining our chance to have a baby, in my mind. I was obese, growing facial hair, hair loss on my head, very moody, I'd skip periods & then bleed for months. My 20's and 30's were terrible. I had to have Lap Band surgery on my stomach & eat nothing but protein & tiny portions for a year, but I lost 120 lbs & then conceived my 3 children naturally. Had my 1st at age 34. My 3rd at age 41. I gained all the weight back & then some. Now I have uterine fibroids and pretty much never stop bleeding.

Unfortunately being your own advocate is hard sometimes, because often they don't believe you if you come in with information. They'll tell you that you read too much online, and that you're not a doctor. Every single time I've done that, I've been told that I need to stop listening to information on the internet. I've had to start bringing medical journals printed out in with me.

This woman has a lot of charisma, but at the same time that she is not cautious of how her words have an impact on easily influence audience. Most people take information from MDs at face value. Let’s look at the recent Jon Hopkins trial. Not one single human being knows 100% everything and the way she speaks is concerning because she speaks with certainty, and that she can diagnose off the bat, and so on. However, I do see value in her encouraging people to take ownership and control of their bodies because it is true, the medical system does not serve patients well in that most doctors have limited times that they can dedicate to each patient coming in through the doors. I just hope that everyone listening to this episode takes a positive from it but does not walk away sing this as the end I’ll be all. Always Keep an open mind and stay curious, everyone.
