I am always happy when I get a notification that you posted a new video. I am always in awe how you can put down initial brush strokes and leave them be. I struggle with over working my paintings and can't seem to break the habit. Love the way you painted this one.

Thank you very much Jay!! That’s what I’m trying to teach people, stop Messi with the painting early on, do worry about the details, if you do start on details early then you’re bound to screw up the painting and get frustrated!!

@@GebahiArtworks I'm very excited. I've been painting a year since October but I had a bout of defeatism and quit for a few months. I don't WANT to pretend to be a camera. I WANT to be very painterly and just beautiful. So I'm glad your channel was directed to me the first time I gifted a painterly painting and was feeling insecure about it. Turns out she loved it and I had my oldest son (11) paint the chopped up background with his aunts engine number and I just painted a heavily shadowed fight fighter. ( that's what she does as a volunteer) she cried when she opened it... so I'm ready to continue my art the painterly way!

@@ACryin_Shame that is incredible!! So glad you found my channel and was able to turn things around. I too didn’t want to paint a photo, at that point, like I say in some of my videos, you might as well just be a photographer. And I mean no disrespect to photographers, but it’s not why went into painting, I just want to make the scene my own, quickly and just painterly with just enough details to give you a story that a baby can understand! I’m glad you found use of my videos and I hope It will just liberate you one day! Thank you for watching my videos and your support!!

Love it. I paint in gouache. Any reason most of the techniques wouldn’t work? What do u see as advantages of acrylic over gouache?

Thank you Michael! Same technique can be used on gouache, the main advantage is that acrylic is permanent and the darks dry lighter with gouache. With acrylics, all colors dry one shade darker! But don’t underestimate gouache, it’s a fun medium and I own a set, and I’ve done a couple tutorials using gouache, one is a lighthouse!

What kind of brush was the last you did the smallest?

It was a Princeton golden Taklon brush and the size was a # 1/0 !
