I have these exact 2 items on my wish list. I own several Caran D’ache pastels and really like them. To me they’re the perfect balance of not too hard and not too soft. Pretty and soothing swatching! Thanks for sharing.

@@marienoellewurm I was about to buy a number of these paints, I just love them. But I have a problem fixing them, so they don't smudge. I did research... Fixative subject is complicated. Which brand, which type then should I use glassine paper alone? I will be using these with a mixed media -watercolor and Luminance set. Thank you so much for your kind reply.

@@khedr_ Great questions! Oil pastels are indeed a little tricky as I've heard somewhere that they never actually dry (as compared to regular oil paints). I have foudn though that some of my oil pastel drawings have dried SOMEWHAT. Sometimes, if I'm drawing in a sketchbook I'll just use tracing paper or other types of 'glassine' paper to protect from smudging. Otherwise, there's a fixative that I quite like to use for pieces I really want to 'keep' and allow to 'dry', and it's a fixative that's specifically made for oil pastels -it's by the brand Sennelier! I find it works really well. I hope that helps, but I think the biggest thing is just to experiment and see what works best for you! These seem like the same product as Caran d'Ache Neocolor I, which I own and which are not water soluble. I wonder what the difference is.

I have a dozen or so of each neopastels and neocolor 1. These are a much softer, blendable true pastel and less crayon-like. Depends on how you want to use them, I think.

they're quite a different feel from the Neocolor 1! Much softer, and they blend suuuuper easily when you layer them, like paint, whereas the Neocolor feels more waxy/doesn't blend as easily. Hope that helps! And yes I agree with what Julie said!
