Hi Everyone!
After my last project, I was asked once again to do a video on how I paint my altered book covers. I'm still very new to mix media art but have been watching lots of ‪@ShawnPetite‬ videos over the last few months which is where I've learned most of these techniques. This video will show my process step-by-step from start to finish. I decided I love this cover so much that I'm turning it into a new series I'm calling "Use Your Wings".
I'll be painting some of my own papers so that I can coordinate the inside of this journal with the outside cover and hopefully have a digital kit in my Etsy Shop by the end of this series.

A very wise and accomplished artist told me many years ago.."Never keep apologizing for your feelings of inadequacies... !! You are an artist.. ALL artists are learning as they create!....Novices in many techniques... Accomplished artists know one thing... No matter what they do ..."mistakes" are learning moments and .....they can "fix" it!! This was a wonderful tutorial... thank you..

Your berries on called rose hips which appear in the fall after the rise has bloomed. Love your work !!

Thank you. I know it's a lot....I'm thinking of maybe doing a future project like this and breaking it down into tiny bite size pieces...like maybe a sort of layer a day idea to make it a little less overwhelming. 🥰

Oh my gosh I'm loving that cover I'm forever setting up my art room trying to get a tiny space organized is tough :) Your awesome Sherry it took covid to get me to start creating more the anxiety mixed with depression I started to paint. I'm saving this to watch again ! I love your videos ! More please !

Thank you so much Melissa. I understand what you mean. I started this channel during covid. I had always wanted to learn mix media art and it felt like a good time to try something new and take my mind off the state of things. I just started learning from watching videos and then decided to share my projects with my Facebook followers. That's how/why this channel was born....I'm still learning and sharing. Life has gotten a little busier the last six months so I haven't been posting as much but I'm still working on this journal and I think it's up to ten or so videos at this point. It would be great to watch you do the entire inside of the book. I really enjoyed watching this. I always have the problem of my mind going blank when the project is sitting in front of me lol. Maybe I should make a list of all the mediums I want to use, the stencils, the stamps and the embellishments. Then I can look at my list as I go lol. I love how you built up your layers. Everything works together to create something unique. Thank you for the great tutorial! 😊❤️

This is a year after your video, but I am watching because I want to do something similar on my first book, and those berries you like are rose hips, which you have probably found out by now. Don’t know where you are, but in Maine, USA, and other parts of New England they are often used to make jelly and tea. 😊 I really like your process and how the cover turned out, now am off to try my hand at one.

Hi Deborah. Welcome and Thank you for watching! I have decided to do a series on finishing this book and have just uploaded the second video which is painting some inside backgrounds using a gel plate. I will be doing the inside covers as well...hopefully soon. The third video will be up soon and covers some more added details to inside papers as well as how I'm prepping the inside of the book.
