I can't even begin to tell you how much fun this was... and mesmerizing! I really loved watching the paint move and glide over the surface of the balls, seeing the 'final' look take shape!
Upon reflections, one thing I wish I would have done: If you are working with an 'odd' shaped ornament or figure like the deer I did... paint it with one of your colours FIRST! Then you don't have to worry about the 'pouring' paint having to cover the full surface... you can relax and let it do its thing!!
Apart from that... embrace the mess but plan for it so it's a 'controlled chaos' kind of situation!
I picked up the paints on Amazon... here's the link to the kit I purchased (along with a smaller kit to get the black and white), but check out all the other colour combinations: amzn.to/3u0aEva
And... don't forget to check out our website for your crafting and decor needs... www.QueenBeeCreationsHome.com We ship throughout Canada and the U.S.

I was surprised with how well the deer turned out. Again... in retrospect.... the deer would have been easier if I had base coated him with one of the colours first so I didn't need to be so obsessed getting a perfect 'pour'

I subscribed, not because your doing Christmas baubels, but because of your personality! You won me over when you threw the empty box on the floor and you said "I'll get the trash later!". I loved that, as I find most artists of any kind to be a little controlling, lol! No offense to anyone... I'm a control freak inmy studio where I make skin care for the masses, lol! ❤❤❤ I just recently bought 2 new Christmas Trees (one of the fancy pre-lit kind. One is green for my livingroom, one is flocked white fir my entry porch) since I got new trees for the first time in 20 years, I decided to make as many of the ornaments as possible for both Trees. I'm using Acrylic pour, acrylic pour with cells, alcohol ink, rice paper designs, glitter ornaments with rub on transfers and some other diy hacks. I bought 175 balls in two sizes, 100 of the flattened rounds in 1 size. 100 heart shaped in two sizes, and 50 wooden round ornaments. I've been at it a week and have about half done! I'm a little shocked how fast the poured ornaments went. In a week, I got my regular pour and my glitter ornaments done! I start my cell ornaments this week. The flattened rounds. I'm doing two sides, so it may take a while, lol! Then I'll do my rice paper and my transfer ornaments done. My diy's I've saved for last! The inside tree is a more upscale tree, my porch tree is going to be done in pastel gingerbread, cupcakes, candies, and pastel ornaments. Hopefully, by Decemver, 1st, I'll have everything done, and I can decorate my house! I love and adore Christmas! I also love you and your channel!!! ❤😂❤

Wow Jill, you are enterprising... AND finding time to check out a number of videos!!! I appreciate the compliment about personality! I think the nicest thing people say when they come in the shop is that I'm just like my videos! Not that I know another way to be, but I hope it means that anything I' doing is approachable. I want people to jump in and give something a try. All too often we hold ourselves back from trying something new out of the fear that we won't be good at it. How can we be good at something we've never done? That's why I leave my mess-ups in the videos... no one is perfect, and I'm certainly far from it, but if you're enjoying the 'doing'... perfection shouldn't even enter into the equation!!

I love your personality too QueenBee! I am a new subscriber that has been paint pouring as a hobby for a couple years. I have DecoArt ready to pour paints that I am going to use to paint pour on the outside of plastic ornaments this year. Did you say you sealed the first bulb with Polyacrylic spray? Do you think a liquid Polyacrylic "painted on" would work also? I definitely want to seal the painted ornament surfaces for longevity & added gloss.

It was worth a shot! I love how it turned out, but painting it one of the pour colours as a base first and then doing the pour would work best to ensure coverage of the awkward places… and then just let the pour do it’s thing!

I would tidy it first but... it would be a lie, and only for the camera... and that's just not me. That's what customers to the shop see... thats what you see. I do have 'plans' for more storage systems (which will help because not having anywhere to put things is part of the problem) but I'm likely to just bring in more 'stuff' then!!!

I've seen these paints used as dips. Do you think this pouring method was easier than the dipping? These are gorgeous! I've shown these to my grandson and he wants to do this for our annual Christmas gift craft.
@QueenBeeCreations
@QueenBeeCreations 3 ай бұрын
I would think I’d need a lot more of the paint in order to be able to dip items.. especially something like the deer… I’d have to fill a container full enough to submerge it. Plus I’ve then used all those paints together so leftovers would be ‘mixed’ and not available to use separately for other projects. So unless you’re making tons if one colour combination I think the pour over is more economical.

OMGeee! I wish I could give multiple likes on this one, LOL. Absolutely stunning, Cindy. I noticed the one that had black spots, or specks...and I had wondered while you were pouring if you could take specific colors and just add a drop here or there to manipulate a bit. An eye dropper would work for that, I bet. BUT, it saddens me to think about all that excess paint being thrown out. So, if you can save it before it dries or starts to set up, you can reuse it? Is that what I understood you saying? I like the shiny finish but I really like the matte finish as well. Good Job! Hummm, 200 glass bulbs? I think I see a class in your future! I bet these would be good sellers, too.

I was distressed about the 'wasted' paint too Sharon, which is why I scooped some up and found the acrylic reindeer to use some of it up! In the description I mentioned that for weird shapes like the deer I should have painted him in a base coat of one of the colours so that I didn't need to futz about trying to get full coverage from the 'pour'... I could just let it do its thing. You could also do that with the top third of the balls so that if the first pour doesn't manage to reach all the 'way around you don't have to re-pour and waste paint. I think you could also plan on some items that you could 'dip' or 'roll' into the paint that drips to the base...

Can more “flotrol” (sp) be added to the paint so that less actual paint is used? Is there a point where the paint would be too watered down?
@QueenBeeCreations
@QueenBeeCreations Жыл бұрын
You can add more 'flow medium' (floetrol being one)... the idea being to loosen the paint enough so that it flows easily and smoothly. However, you don't want it too thin that it doesn't end up really adhering to your surface and creating all the striations and patterns. These are perfect out of the bottle but, I would expect, will thicken over time now that they have been opened, so I might have to add some if they sit on the shelf too long!

I have been trying to find videos on this technique! Thank you! I have a few questions…what type of varnish did you use? Also, I have been reading about getting “cells” to form. Did that happen with these?

I just used the spray sealer I had on hand from the hardware store… a Rustoleum product, but any clear coat poly acrylic sealer of your choice would work… I wouldn’t hesitate to use any from the product lines in my shop but went with the spray simply because it was fast and easy. I didn’t get any cell activity with the paints I used but I believe that often people add a cell activator into one of their colours to ensure they do.

What is the difference between an Acrylic pour and n Acrylic pour with cells?
@QueenBeeCreations
@QueenBeeCreations 6 ай бұрын
If you want to get 'cells' in your pour then there is a 'cell activator' product that you need to add to at least one of the paints. There are some paints that may react with one another to create cells, but without a lot of trial and error you can add a product like this one... amzn.to/3RW9w8w That said, I believe that there are some alternative products you can use... perhaps others may chime in with their favourite!
