When you poured the paint in the cup why did you mix them afterward if there was nothing in the cup other than the paint. Shame on you if you added something to the paint before you poured in the cup fooling people

So it is possible to do fluid paintings pretty inexpensively. Yours always turn out great! thanks for sharing!

Lovely results. Now I want to get the posca pens out and add some black and white line work and dots to the pieces. (I do a lot of zentangle work, and like to incorporate repeated forms in my painting. I think that is why many people are drawn towards "lots of cells". I like it all: smooth or real textural/rough, bright colors, dark colors, ... it's all good.) Rick I applaud you taking on the inexpensive possibilities for you, me, and anyone else that wants to see that anyone can do this. After asking about the house paint the other day, I started to review several videos...just looking at the consistency of the paint being used. The differences are astounding for one person to the next, and so are the results. My goal is just to enjoy what I can do and play off of whatever I get. I like the effects of transparent paints with opaque paints, but I do not believe you have to have both to get cells, or that you have to weigh out your paint etc. I am aware that paint density is a factor, you can see that with observation. Using skins has the advantage of using what is on the bottom, or what is on the top...it is all good. I believe you have good techniques, and a great willingness to play and slop the paint around for the possibilities that may be there...the artist in you is a strong force that I value. I am pleased that you share your journey with me.

Rick, I am working up a pilot program for a school that doesn't have consistent Art classes. Your willingness to be free enough to go outside the box of the "expected" grade of materials has been a great encouragmet to me in this effort. I will have to be able to work within confines of their budget and still give quality opportunities for creative exploration. Who knows, maybe someday there will be many artists crediting "Mr. Rick Cheadle" for their success!!!

@DaniDestructionTM
@DaniDestructionTM 6 жыл бұрын
Crafty Chrystal and Rick Cheadle if you want to get a torch that lasts and isn't to expensive get a "Burns-o-matic welding torch at walmart. They are in the paint/bathroom/kitchen/welding area in a tall thin blue and white box for 15$ it comes with a tank and a button click nozzle after that they r only 3$ a new tank it should last months to year or even more it all depends on how much you use the torch the heat helps open cells with ALOT more ease. It even helps pop any air bubbles u may have.

Lissa,I'm a total noob to this stuff,but my guess is the glue (modge podge) that he added inhibits the paint from cracking. Allowing them to dry slowly I'd think helps as well? Good luck,your only regret will be NOT getting creative ,so GO FOR IT! Have a great day!

Pretty colors! I noticed you don't add in the cost of the wood panels you're pouring on, which look pretty nice and surely cost more than a few dollars each. If people are really into cheap pouring seems like watercolor paper is a good way to go (and lots easier to store).

I'm going to start calling you the "Paint Cell Whisper"!!! You amaze me. Hardly nothing but water basically a nd still get damn cells! I don't get it. What about your canvas you pour on. What is that? I will check you descriptions and see if it's there so don't answer that part if it is.

The canvas I use DOES make a difference because of the way they are made. The gravity pulls the paint up and over (creating cells) amzn.to/2B1V9Zs

These are absolutely beautiful. I did my first ever pour yesterday and was thrilled with the results. When it was dry this morning, I was less thrilled as the gloss and depth are gone. Hopefully once I varnish it in a couple of days I will like it once again. I used craft paints, glue , water and silicone to mix the paint and used my favorite colors, so I hope I can grow to like it again.

All pours dry that way -- that's why people take pictures while the pour is still wet. It'll be beautiful again after you seal it with resin or gloss sealer.

Thank you for the encouragement BlaizC. I have seen some of the acrylic pouring artists on YT and have noticed what happens after the drying and before the varnish/shellac/resin. I have a question for you. How long should I let it dry for before I put on the "top" coat(s)? I enjoyed this a lot and plan to gesso a few more canvases tonight so that I can pour again tomorrow. I realize that the most skill seems to lie with mixing the paint properly and having a good eye for colors. The paints often spread themselves more attractively with little to no human intervention except a bit of tilting.

I have heard that it takes 21 days for acrylic paint to completely cure. I know Rick once sealed a pour after one day of drying outside in the sun, but I'd wait. Do you know how to clean the canvas before you seal it? Rick has a free workshop that covers all that kind of stuff, plus a new workshop (that currently only costs $10) that goes into more detail. A link to the free workshop is under his video, above.

I wait over a month before I have my pieces resin coated. Sometimes I varnish 1-3 days later. It depends on a lot of factors (especially factors like -am I worried about cracks?) ie. sun drying

Thanks so much for making this video. I have been watching acrylic pours for weeks now but everyone is becoming so complex with all the different mediums. I have left over wet wall panel pieces that have been cut up into various small sizes. I want to paint them in various different styles and put on the bathroom wall. I want a lot of negative space to show the panels off. Is there anything I could use that would make the acrylic paint glossy? I don't really want to varnish it afterwards as I think it will spoil the effect.
