Kevin Ansell, 3M Application Engineer, shows the 3M Standard Operating Procedure detailing the Paint Prep process step by step. In this first episode he explains how to properly featheredge a repair area after it has been sanded.
Important notes (00:35)
Wear proper PPE: safety glasses, protective gloves, respirator and whatever else you need for the job. This video is intended for a professional setting such as a body shop or paint shop. Make sure to check OEM recommendations to confirm you’re using the correct adhesive for the job.
Remove Inline Scratches (01:20)
Use 180 grit or whatever is recommended in your area. We recommend using a dust extraction system combined with a net abrasive to eliminate as much dust as possible.
Further Refine using 360 Grit (01:41)
Important note:
There are of course many factors and variables that can affect an individual repair, so the technician and repair facility need to evaluate each specific application and repair process, including relevant vehicle, part and OEM guidelines, and determine what is appropriate for that repair.
