Not bad. A couple of points though: The weld between the side armor of the gull and the top were made 'positive' and then grinded down flush, so it couldn't be seen (I assume because that would make it easier to keep the tank clean, so that not grime and moisture would collect which would affect the tank - if water gets into a crack and the metal starts to rust, even just on the surface, it affects the durability of the metal, and that's not even taking into account what would happen if that moisture would freeze). Also, the tools were not left unpainted - they were green. The Germans used unpainted but varnished tools however. Finally, no stowage should be left unsecured - that spare road wheel for example is just begging to fall off. And, exactly what are the bags on the turret hanging on? unless the crew actually went to the trouble to add their own hooks for that (very doubtful), any bags should hang off existing parts of the tank, like the lifting eyelets on top of the tank for example.

Cheers for watching, I enjoy just building from the box and its instructions, I take your point will tools, although its nice to have contrast on a completely green tank. Again the magnet fixings for the rucksack give contrast. I do appreciate positive feedback like yours as it gives me things to reflect on in future projects. Thanks again.

Hi, I change things as I find something works better, however on this video its white paint I’m using. If I did it now I would use a light grey ie tamiya sky grey, the white is good for the very top of highlights but too stark maybe. Hope this helps, enjoy your build.

Why paint rubber tracks a deep brown colour? Rubber doesn’t rust, as far as I am aware. There’s no metal on the grouser face, only the side links are steel. It usually fades to a grey colour from its original blue black. When contacting soil and hard road surfaces, the rubber usually remains visible. Take a look at any earthmoving equipment around the suburbs nowadays, all using rubber band tracks. Doesn’t quite do justice to the otherwise wonderful artwork.

@@ctscalemodellinguk aha, so not the first then? Good to see eagle eyes were watching. I’ve found that there is a strong need to refer to several reference sources to get an understanding of what A Vehicles looked like in theatre. My interest is the Italian campaign. The general condition of vehicles is rough. Real rough. Looking at the photos you get to see the various wear points and what doesn’t get all that dirty. As vehicles were pretty short lived there and the attrition rate was very high, they didn’t all look like the ‘standard weathering pattern’ that some modellers seem to follow. One thing of interest in that theatre is the limitation that most travel was restricted to roads. Few vehicles then would end up with muddy, caked bogies. That would surprise many modellers. Dust was prevalent, and in many cases (other than winter) you just cannot r3ad any markings on the vehicles. Here’s a great sit that I’ve found helpful to understand detail of the different models of Shermans. It might be news to some viewers: www.google.com/gasearch?q=sherman%20minutia%20page&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5 Loved the artwork you created on the upper hull, it was brilliant. No guessing that I’ll be watching again and trying to imitate. My Italian subject will be a challenge with the right amount of dust. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
