How do you kill like 16:10

@@kowx8649 What I'm doing there is just looking downwards whilst blocking, right click on pc, and attacking, which does a downward strike. Then because I'm looking at the ground the overhead swing hits the enemy almost instantly compared to a sideways hit where it might take longer to actually reach the enemy. Then I'm avoiding him by moving left a little.

I agree, there’s a dedicated leaderboard at this link: www.speedrun.com/pttr with a small community discord linked on there as well, for speedrunning loads of different parts of the game. It’s much better than the in-game leaderboard because we need some video proof of the run, to confirm it’s legitimate. Thanks for the kind words too ❤

Thanks that’s very kind, I’m glad people do watch the entirety of my runs occasionally but the average watch time is just a couple of minutes, forgive me for being surprised lol. Commentary is usually difficult on these runs because they’re exhausting to retry time after time, and I can’t ever guarantee beating my personal best, so repeating the same sort of commentary each time is very tiresome.

What got me on my first playthroughs was the unknown, you have to go looking for the lore and even then it’s patchy and in vague fragments all over the campaign. On top of that you can be murdered by a super being around the next corner if you’re not expecting it 😄

Sure thing, the first thing I'll say although it sounds obvious is that on top of the screen you have a compass, by default the blue arrow points to the next stage or the concluding boss fight if you're far enough, then the yellow/green arrow points to a shop (big arrows mean you're on the correct sort of height already and small ones mean you need to go down/up a level, although from the start you'll only ever need to go down a level). The reason I say that is I played Beneath for a month or so without taking notice of the compass at all ':D The downwards bit I was talking about, in Caves and Crystal Caverns there are dedicated rooms for going downwards, which means you're on the right path if you find one. In Caves it's a rocky slope descent either side of the player or a large room with a sand-coloured slope in the centre, for Crystal Caverns it's always a large room which descends with a huge slope gradually downwards in a semi-spiral type thing?) hard to explain without pictures but you can see them at 37:43 and 43:06 for one instance apiece. Then if you manage to get any shards of a fallen God, from killing Shard Lords, and you've 'freed the apostate' (which I didn't bother with in this speedrun) you can buy upgrades for a few shards each time which improve what the compass can show, you can make it lead you to more shard lords and to challenges, as well as pointing to the pursuer. If you've never freed the apostate it can be found by following the orange-colour arrow on the compass in Caves 1 (assuming it's spawned). Hope some of this helps but beyond this it's mostly luck, and you can sort of judge how far you are from an exit by jiggling side to side and seeing how quickly across the screen the arrow moves on the compass for the exit or shop when looking in that direction, which can sometimes be useful in finding a room closer to the destination than the one you're currently in. If you want to ask anything else feel free to respond :)

So the order of the rooms, caves 1-3 and crystal caverns 1-2 then ruins 1-3 are predetermined, that order doesn’t change, but the layout of the rooms can be totally different each time because they’re randomly generated each time you go Beneath, which can make this speedrun quite rough. With weapons, the rusty katanas are the best weapon to pick up (with no weapon spawn upgrades) by far, especially enchanted, then when I make it to crystal caverns, picking up crystal swords is ideal as well. Once I’ve upgraded to have the ability to find the katana and the black katana I’ll want to pick those up above anything else (black katana being the very best). Below the rusty katana and crystal swords, stuff like the rusty cutlass and blunts like the crowbar and taser are quite good.

The bugs that allow you to skip parts of ruins are mental and the end has had many issues in his final fight so I think I’d believe that if I saw it 😊

Ah, because it takes 5 trips to Crystal Caverns to unlock the shortcut and this is all from a new save file, by the end of the run I will only have visited Crystal Caverns 3 times.

Yes that's far better than I did on my first handful of goes at Beneath, and on Console? epic, I'm far worse on console. Sorry if the run spoiled anything for you about the campaign, but if you manage to beat the first boss at the end of Ruins 3 the progress does snowball a little bit.

Yeah I’ve seem a few long time players say that as well funnily enough, that they thought to fight the trickster and get that whole process started needed the Necromancer and Aberration dead already, or perhaps just the Necromancer.

Perhaps I’ve played too much of a game intended for a few fun evenings 😅. In any case thanks that’s very kind, I could always do a guide on this stuff if you think it’d be helpful!

Spectre/Wraith, even outside of speedrunning it’s quite helpful for avoiding enemies’ attacks and enchantments

Speedrunning converted me from Brawler/Mauler to Spectere/Wraith

No problem! We actually can't kill the pursuer at all unless you have some very late-game weapons, they're called Ancient Weapons and are a bright yellow/glowing yellow colour. You can only find them in a zone called Fire and Blood, right at the end of the game. The only other weapon that can kill the pursuer is the Laser Katana/Red Katana, which you can get by killing an enemy called the Construct Pursuer, who spawns in the Construct. The construct is very late in the game as well though so for the moment just remember to run away from the pursuer and maybe use Spectre class, or speed upgrades, if you're especially worried about it.

I didn't know those weapons could kill pursuers I was running away from the like a puss XDD

It's in a random location within Crystal Caverns 1, it should always spawn there, somewhere, so look carefully for it. But again, it can only be in Crystal Caverns 1.
