Yeah, i find that miniatures with a gloss varnish are really hard to read

Yup. The final gloss step was a bit overdone. Made everything blur together in a not-so-great way. I'd probably try only applying the gloss to the armored carapace bits. Replicates the glossy look of the alien head without destroying all the detail that was worked into the scheme earlier

@@damianwomack4668 Perhaps a sating varnish on the body and a gloss on the armour? My son has gloss varnish over all his nids, but the armour is a deep blue.

not the most traditional xenomorph colors but a little green in some places goes a LONG way to get color in there

It's a troop model so much more detail than this isn't needed. On larger monsters being more selection with the gloss and doing some more highlights wouldn't be a bad idea. For contrast colour you have to keep in mind it'll draw the eyes a lot due to how dark the miniature is, so the base shouldn't be bright. I would do the base seperately with matt though so it stands out a bit more from the glossy Tyranid. Bright red blood is probably the easiest option, you can splatter it over any areas you want to draw the eye to, although working it up from black will take a bit of effort it should look good. It's not strictly necessary though. Doing some kind of bright glow to the weapon also may work, but that breaks away from the Xenomorph scheme.

Agreed. Idk if the gloss was just too thick or what but it just kinda ruined all of the earlier detail and made it blur together. Cant even tell the teeth and claws are metallic when the whole model reflects so much light. Think this is just a symptom of trying too hard to replicate the wet look of xenonorphs which are already pretty bland in their coloring despite their awesome overall design. I think i would only apply a gloss to armor plates and not the rest of the model in order to get a good middle-ground result

Tbh it was a decent looking beginner paint job but the gloss and wash kinda nulled anything they did to just a black tyranid someoen shoved in a retards mouth. I reckon you could achieve the same latex looking skin that the xenomorphs have with just a good paint job and understanding how light contrasts on black.
