Ahhh sweet assistant artist 👩🏻‍🎨 with you! ❤Definitely a huge help with doing the fine details of a watercolor painting. I have been using theses techniques for a while now & just really didn’t really it was an actual technique to use. Especially when I am blending with such little bit of paint in my brushes. Exciting to know that I am doing things well! Knowing your style has helped me shape & start to feel & find my style now after watching your channel for 3 actually going on 4 years now! Thanks for sharing this video, your time, & vast knowledge with us! I greatly appreciate your help with my growth of learning how to paint with watercolors. Enjoy your day & week!😊💕

Steve, I found your channel about 6 weeks ago and you have pretty much eliminated my 20 year fear of watercolor. I bought a basic set of colors, a couple of brushes and some good paper; I have been painting every day. You have managed to re-inspire me to draw and paint again. Thank you.

I'm an artist new to watercolor, and your videos have been a great source of knowledge and technique! An artist I truly love, but have a hard time understanding (technique, process, etc.) is Alan Lee. Mr. Lee is probably best known for his Tolkien watercolors. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out HOW he get's his painting to "look" the way they do, but your light gloss work on the tree / vines really opened my eyes to it. Great work and I plan on watching many of your videos!

I was pretty amazed to learn that Alan Lee used watercolor and gouache for most of his work. I always thought he painted with acrylic or oil paint.

I was so relieved when you said it's like sketching! :) A few weeks ago I felt like getting back into painting after years away from it in the digital art world and your channel is really what made me decide to get into watercolor. Never done it before. Your videos are so well put together, relaxing and instructive. Learning so much about how watercolor thinks. I've done maybe 5 paintings and it's... tricky. But so relieved to see this sketching technique, since I'm comfortable with sketching. Definitely going to try this wipe the brush and "sketch" method in my next one. Other things I love about your channel: your thumbnails have a nice, clean design, which make them easy to read. By far my favourite in all of YT. Another thing I like is that your work space is so clean, neat and tidy. I look at some other tutorials, which are great, but I can't pay attention because I'm thinking, "that's nice, but clean your tray!" haha Thanks for your demonstrations. Keep sharing them. You're a life-saver. Love your art style. God bless. J PS. Lovely granddaughter :)

I am trying to do this painting. Right now I am waiting for the mask to dry. I used Windsor & Newton masking. It smells weird lol At first it was a lot harder to use than I thought it would be but then I got down to the "liquid" part and realized I didn't shake it up enough. It doesn't help that I bought it years ago either lol But it's working. Have you found any better liquid mask? I just love your painting and hope I can do half as well. Thank you again. Hugs!

Hi, Steve. Love your channel. Just a quick tip, one that maybe you already know. Masking fluid can be dissolved with lighter fluid. I've recovered, after years, a brush with dry masking fluid on it just by pouring some lighter fluid in my hand and soaking the brush in it, then washing the brush whit regular soap and then rinsing it with water. It also will soften dry masking fluid on the paper. Pour some lighter fluid over it and let the masking fluid dry again before rubbing it out -that's important. It won't affect your watercolors nor your paper. It'll just evaporate without leaving any trace. Greetings from Spain!

What a lovely picture of vines on a pillar. I appreciate that you say it takes a long time to render. Now I don't feel so much like I'm flogging a dead horse when I'm working at getting the roundness or shading right. (If I don't overwork it, that is. I still have a bit of a time with that). Thank you for this priceless demonstration.

To stop pin holes in the masked are never shake the masking fluid ,it causes bubbles the applied the bubbles pop exposing the paper,roll the masking type fine point with both hands,if it comes in a bottle just use the end of a brush and stir.thanks for sharing .
@mindofwatercolor
@mindofwatercolor 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. Good points! I keep a stack of stirring sticks handy to stir. Sometimes I get impatient and shake the bottle but if I do that, when I poor out the mask, I make sure there are no bubbles in my application. Another problem with bubbles is it introduces more air into the bottle and can cause drying. Either way, as you said Maria, don't shake the masking fluid. By the way I featured your tip on my Facebook page, thanks again for the input.

Ah! I used to live in Greenville! We spent a year there (my husband's internship - he's now at UNC Hospital) a LONG time ago. I worked at Flour Daniel (used to be in CS). I visited about a year ago and was really surprised at all the changes downtown. It is so beautiful with the bridge and park. We took a restaurant tour as well - some great places to eat. We are now near Chapel Hill and love it here. We get to Asheville once in a while. I've shot some of B&W on hiking trips - hoping to do some watercolor. Have you tried using an Elegant Writer pen with watercolor? It's super fun. The ink bleeds different colors when water is added. It becomes permanent after that.

The area is booming, and one of the fastest growing in the US from what I read. Some good and some bad mixed in with that little fact. But we still love it. I actually live in Greer. We've lived here since 1979. All these great areas, Biltmore, Asheville, the mountains etc. are just a short drive one of the things we love. I have a set of colored ink elegant writers, not the black but I'm familiar with the effect you're referring to. I use my color set mainly for calligraphy in my sketch books.

Hi Steve. Your watercolor videos are my favorites. Your witty candor and easy going personality makes learning to paint with watercolor far less intimidating. so thank you. Also, your audio is great, always insinc and understandable even outside. I was wondering if you use a wireless microphone? Thanks, Eddie.

Thanks Eddie, means a lot. I use a Rode shotgun mic its on a swing stand just above my head level. I record my audio to a Zoom H4N audio recorder and sync it with the video in post. In camera audio has always been less than satisfactory even when I can plug in the Rode mic. I get hums from two of my cameras. The extra step of syncing separate audio is def. worth it.
