My favorite song from one of my favorite musicals, “They Call the Wind Maria” from, “Paint Your Wagon,” edited clips from the motion picture dubbed with the track from the original soundtrack album.

What I love about this version is Harve looks and acts like he is genuinely feeling the pain of what he is singing. Just terrific.

Same with my dad, we were frequent drive in movie attendees and westerns were a staple in those days as were double features. I don’t remember what the 2nd movie was but we talked him into going because of the western . He hated musicals but loved this one, as did we 4 kids & our mom. It’s still a family favourite. I have lost count of the times I have watched it.

You’re welcome, and I agree. I’m glad it wasn’t too difficult editing the scene--extending it a bit to accommodate the longer length of the song from the motion picture soundtrack album used to replace the movie’s original audio. Anyway, thank you for your comment and thank you for watching (and sorry for my slow reply).

I'm surfing through you tube and listening to Robert Goulet and now Harve Presnell sing this great song. Goulets rendition is fantastic but this rendition has no peer. As gorgeous and rich a voice as you can possibly imagine. Again I make reference to the fabulous Australian baritone Philip Quast, but how would you like to have Presnell, Gouket and Quast in the same production? Insane musical gifts.

Two words. Majestic and magnificent! Also, in Saving Private Ryan he delivers one of the best lines in the history of cinema when he, as a general, learns that 3 brothers were killed in action but the 4th might be alive. Perhaps he did that on location. But, it was raining, the microphone would have picked up that sound of the rain. Most likely the singing would have to be redone in a studio. When the dialogue is done this way, it's called ADR ( Automated Dialogue Replacement)

My great uncle wrote this song. He wrote it a long time ago for his wife. The song was initially titled “They Call The Wind Maria”. He sent it to some company, and they told him that it was no good. But after he left, that company stole the song and changed the name from “Maria” to “Mariah”. Wikipedia says that the writers of this song were Alan J. Lerner, and Frederick Loewe. But the real writer of this song was my great uncle, Carl Kangas. RIP Uncle Carl

About Lee marvin's version of Wanderin Star" from the Wiki "Marvin's version of the song "Wand'rin Star" became a number 1 single in Ireland and the UK, keeping The Beatles at number 2 in the UK with their single "Let It Be".: Clint Eastwood has actually always been big into music, he can play piano and has actually composed some of the nmusical scores for several of his films.

Mariah Mariah They call the wind Mariah Away out here they got a name For rain and wind and fire The rain is Tess, the fire Joe, And they call the wind Mariah Mariah blows the stars around And sends the clouds a-flyin? Mariah makes the mountains sound Like folks were up there dying Mariah Mariah They call the wind Mariah Before I knew Mariah's name And heard her wail and whinin? I had a girl and she had me And the sun was always shinin? But then one day I left my girl I left her far behind me And now I'm lost, so gone and lost Not even God can find me Mariah Mariah They call the wind Mariah Out here they got a name for rain For wind and fire only But when you're lost and all alone There ain't no word but lonely And I'm a lost and lonely man Without a star to guide me Mariah blow my love to me I need my girl beside me Mariah Mariah They call the wind Mariah Mariah Mariah! Blow my love to me
