Darren, I am an illustrator for outdoor magazines, have also painted for years, also pinstriping cars. I am just getting into the fascinating world of resin horses. Unlike many, who also airbrush, I too am going to hand paint them , even priming and clear coating by hand. In looking into the best acrylics for resins, I came across your video. I love your attitude and style ! Thank you for this, it helps me a lot. Am waiting on my first resin that is new and being cast by a nice little girl in Russia. Her horses are amazing and lifelike. Cant wait to try this new art style. I have subscribed to your videos and will search out more after this one. Thank you so much, Darren. Sharon Knight

Hi Sharon! Thanks for your kind words! I hope my videos or my 'every brush stroke' tutorials on patreon are able to help you! At the time of this video I was using a different paint (it was hard for people to buy) - so since then I've changed to Vallejo paint as it's easy to pick up. You'll have to let me see your horses when you get some done! I'd love to see them. If you have any questions in the meantime feel free to get in touch 😊

@@DarrenCarnallCustoms I watched your whole series on Kylo Ren , along with others-loved them ! Used to work acrylics years ago , til I got into coloured pencils in illustrating magazine art. Then enamels , in pinstriping cars . Now back to acrylics- the cycle completes ! All my brushes , custom-made by Steve Kafka , my pinstriping instructor, among the best painters in the country. ...best brushes I've ever used. Settled on Golden "creamy" high flow acrylics, and Vallejo primer and gloss. My Russian gal is just beginning to cast molds and I'm in line. After enjoying your videos I really think I can make a splash into this market , though not among their known artists. Most airbrush/hand detailed resins I see really don't have the details I plan on applying, but a few are exquisite and I hope to be able to equal that quality, as I've done that for decades on paper. You have given me hope and eager motivation to be a success. Your faces are masterfully done and come alive. At times watching your videos I'm happy to say, I have some techniques, and even attitudes in common with you ...and I chuckled in coming across them, not meaning to sound full of myself . Makes me feel I have half a chance in this new three-dimensional venture. THank you for allowing me to follow up when I get going in this. You are so busy with your work and life. Not sure how you may want me to follow up on that with some pics, here, or someplace else, but I can let you know here when I'm ready . Life is good, and endless thanks and appreciation to yourself , Darren.

Hey Darren, Once again, I'd like to extend to you my deepest gratitude for your unselfish imparting of the knowledge you pass to us I'm in the process of sculpting, then painting my own 1/6 heads as you know this is becoming an extremely popular culture. Do you belong to any 1/6 FB groups? I'm in 1/6 scale views and reviews and a few others It is my wish to one day be able to make a living doing this, as I am artistically inclined, and love realistic figures. I did neglect my art for many years and wish to attempt to pursue becoming a skilled artisan somewhere down the line. People would always tell me I should pursue art as a career, so I guess after about 30-40 years of hearing this, I will give it a shot. Thanks again from Brooklyn NY! James M

Hey Darren, I have a Tsu'tey Mini bust from Gentle giant and Frankly, the paint work isn't that good, a few production defects on it also, including an ear that fell off and they tried to glue back on, I got it brand new in the box. Would you do an Avatar re-paint of a mini bust? I just think he could be more life-like. He has some special paint that glows on him also, and since he comes with a spear, I think war paint like he has in the movie would look far better. The stripes are light, so it doesn't look dark and give that very "na'vi" look. If not, do you have any suggestions on paints?
@DarrenCarnallCustoms
@DarrenCarnallCustoms 7 жыл бұрын
Hello there! I've just had a look at some photos of that bust and compared it to the character from the film, and you're right it could certainly be more detailed and realistic! I like your idea of the war paint, and I've also just got some neon UV paints for a Tron statue, and I think adding doing a full repaint and adding some glow effects both to him and to the plant life on the base could make this bust really incredible! Send me a message either through the contact form on my website or my facebook page (links above) and we can talk about this more and I'll give you some info about my waiting list etc. Great idea for an upgrade though!
@Mizuki9410
@Mizuki9410 7 жыл бұрын
Darren Carnall - bringing your collectibles to life Yeah, the pictures that you find on google are doing it a favor, the na'vi lines are nowhere near that dark! Very light blue, and not even in the same coloring as his actual skin tone. Will do :)!! I got sent a blue light (best scientific term) which makes his blue dots glow (not that well though). I'll shoot you a message :)!! Thanks for replying!!

have you ever painted leather boots a different color for your 1/6 figures?
@DarrenCarnallCustoms
@DarrenCarnallCustoms 5 жыл бұрын
I have! To make brown leather ones I used dark brown (Umber), a lighter Chocolate Brown dry brushes over the top of that, and then a lighter Leather Brown dry brushed and painted on with thin washes on top. Also mixed some reds in there and even some yellows in tiny places to warm things up. It's important to get the mix between the light parts and the more aged/worn dark parts that you get. I hope this helps?

@DarrenCarnallCustoms
@DarrenCarnallCustoms 4 жыл бұрын
There'll be hundreds of tips (I do full length 'every brush stroke' tutorials over on my Patreon) but in simple terms I'd say make sure your paint isn't too thick when you put it on. It's always better to do several thin layers, than on or two thick ones. That was you'll have brush marks or it might get 'bumpy' - good luck!! 👍

@DarrenCarnallCustoms
@DarrenCarnallCustoms 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Emilio! Normally if I'm painting a head or a statue I spray it with primer first, to give the paint something to stick to.. but for something small like that I think as long as you make sure the part is nice and clean (perhaps using some rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad) then you should be ok just painting on top of the goggles. If you're just painting then you'll have to be careful when you're handling it not to rub or scratch the paint off... or you could spray/paint some varnish over the head or goggles to protect it. I hope this helps!
