These are the stages I use to get some 6mm Germans painted and table ready. They won't win any Golden Demon awards, but they might just win a game...

I have not painted any 6mm figures in 30 years. But your technique worked for me then. That includes all periods from ancients to modern! Yes the were Ross in the day.

I ordered every major nation in 6mm recently from Baccus. Plan on using them for Crossfire. Initially I was about to put three figures on each base, but this looks also quite tempting.

Painted up two 6mm WW2 armies decades ago - well the AFVs at least. Never got round to the infantry, which I’ve still got stashed away. Somehow never enjoyed putting them down on the gaming table, the minis were simply too small and the rules at the time just weren’t any fun. But now we have “O Group” it might be worth digging them out and giving them a try…
@nerzenjaeger

You can easily do Crossfire with them. This puts the fun into any scale.

@@nerzenjaeger - I thought Crossfire was essentially an infantry game? And also that you need a lot of terrain. Got plenty of 20mm terrain, but virtually zero in 6mm.

@@sirrathersplendid4825 Yes, I was referring to your stashed away infantry. You do need a lot of terrain, but that's a plus on my side, especially because it's easy for 6 mm.

@@nerzenjaeger - Some of the 6mm terrain I’ve seen is simply beautiful. Certainly a major attraction of the scale. But I have problems feeling anything for the tiny models - they become mere counters, which is quite different to my connection with minis in larger scales.
@nerzenjaeger
@nerzenjaeger Жыл бұрын
@@sirrathersplendid4825 I agree, they feel like counters at times. Crossfire however as a rules set is very immersive, so might counter-act that. Plus, you already own the miniatures anyway. Just some food for thought.

I tried PVA once but it was a huge pain in the ass to get them off the stick later. It splintered and I ended up having to snip and sand parts off. Now I just use a tiny amount of super glue, then pop them in the freezer for a few minutes to weaken the bond and they snap right off when I'm ready to base.
@schwabrichard9829

I found a great way paint on strips. Cover your sticks with blue painters tape. Then glue them down. Paint as normal, you will find the strips or larger scale figures pop right off!

I had the same problem with PVA glue so I use double sided tape on Popsicle sticks.

If you have trouble getting the figure off the sticks when glued with PVA glue put them in a shallow pan and soak them in water (just add enough to cover the bases), in about 15 minutes the glue will dissolve enough to easily pull of the figures.

Great wee video mate! 6mm (and smaller) really seems to get folks worried (myself included before I painted some!) so really nice to see you go through a quick and simple method for them.

I'm very much of the 'that'll do' school of thought when it comes to painting 6mm. If you can paint lines and dots on 28mm figures, you can paint 6mm. Give it a go, you'll be surprised.

Interesting. Not a scale I am familiar with. I note you varnish the minis before basing. I've found that a spray varnish can make the static grass stand up if done afterwards.Also found a soft brush is useful, before that step, to just get any grass off the figures themselves. Good simple guide though; becoming a trade mark!

Oh wow the 2D6 infantry look surprisingly detailed for 6mm. I was thinking of going with Baccus because of the already large and still expanding range but their infantry are a bit of the basic side, which I expected for 6mm, but seeing 2D6 puts them to shame a bit.

Thanks very helpful, and very similar to the technique I use other than double sided tape on Popsicle sticks as the white glue sticks too well for me. I have not used a wash in the past for fear of making the figures too dark so your video was helpful in that regard. A couple of questions, do you find gloss varnishing the figures first to prevent the wash staining them is helpful (I do that for 15mm and 28mm)? Second what colour of wash would you use on khaki clad troops (British and French) black or the Citadel Earthshade?
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming Жыл бұрын
Cheers, I am glad it was useful, no I've never used a gloss varnish before washing, and have never seen any issues. I'd use Agrax for other figures as well as black is too stark and brown is more organic.
@westernkeep99
@westernkeep99 Жыл бұрын
@@StormofSteelWargaming Thanks for the reply and answers, I will try Agrax wash. A friend advocates priming black and then dry-brushing on the colours, what do you think of that idea? I am a bit skeptical. Couple of other points I have always cut the troops off the sprue and then attach them to the sticks before priming, not sure if that makes much difference doing it afterwards? Perhaps it is easier to pull them off the popsicle sticks when blued with PVA glue if still on the sprue. I like you idea of placing the painted troops in the texture paste, I often buy the plain white acrylic resin from a craft store and mix in the colour I want (usually an earth brown) as it is less expansive than the Vallejo texture paste, and I don't need to paint the paste after it dries.
