I feel like Alan Rickman was a good choice for Severus. While he is older than the character he portrays, I feel like that help give him that unhealthy depressed look. words on Alan Rickman as an actor, and yes, Snape's life could certainly have aged him up. (And I feel like half of the fanfiction that Snape got is due to Alan Rickman doing such a great job portraying him, the other is because us girls can't resist some tortured smart dangerous anti-hero (or down-right villain, if the actor is charismatic enough). At least in fiction. )

@@tomboymjr I personally while reading the books always envisioned her as a woman of color-I think one just because I am one myself and could identify with her more that way, and two it resonates more with her story being from the most impoverished district to also be a part of a marginalized racial community. But yes it’s definitely open to interpretation, she could also very well just be a white person with a tan, that’s the beauty of books to envision characters as you please! @@Rodger_Phillips Well, it's old to those a generation or two later. And it could also depend on where you grew up, whether the expression is still in use. In my experience, it was a term I only came across in books like Little House on the Prairie, or Old Yeller or something like that. My grandparents and great-grandmother never used the expression themselves either, but they were from up North and some came from a line of immigrants in the early 1900s, so naturally it wasn't part of their vocabulary. But I understand that the expression was also used more so in the deep south, and may still be used there for all I know.

@@midoriemi3859 Lol, tbh, I'm not sure I've ever looked up the definition in a dictionary - it's just the definition I learned from reading it in context. Funny thing is, if you reread the books, Snape's hair isn't as greasy as Harry constantly describes it to be (that disconnect is there for thematic reasons). As someone who's worked with hair before, Snape's hair being described as mobile as it is clashes with greasiness. The dude's hair is probably greasy because he spends several hours a day in a Potions classroom.

LOL Anyway, in case you're interested, the Creature is described as being 10 feet tall, with disheveled long black hair and with a yellowish but transparent mummy-like skin that lets you see his pearly white teeth and all of his muscles and blood vessels (so you can probably also see his eyes through his skin in full, despite it not being clearly pointed out by Shelley). Also, Frankenstein created him anew (which is why the Creature is huge, since Frankestein needed to scale up all the blood vessels, nerves, etc.) It's also heavily hinted that he was created using alchemy. No corpses were harmed in the creating of the Creature. lol (well... except when Frankenstein was studying them, I suppose...)

They really made things harder on him with some of these descriptions, like, I know for a fact that Katniss' hair, skin and eyes are all described in the books, and Snape's skin is described as sallow, which is a way better descriptor than unhealthy. Yeah, I'm not sure what their game is. For example, I'm almost positive that Snape gets described as having black eyes in the books on multiple occasions (i.e. presumably just so dark of a brown that it's hard to tell the pupils from the irises), yet they didn't mention that at all in the description. He came to that conclusion on his own, but they really shouldn't be claiming the video to be drawing the characters 'exactly' as described in the book if they're not going to use as much of the book's descriptions as possible. It seems like they're trying to give him deliberately vague descriptions in order to make sure he doesn't guess the character (for example, Geralt having yellow eyes with slit-like pupils is mentioned frequently in the books). If they want to get unique designs out of him that won't be as heavily influenced by him guessing the character partway through, they should drip-feed him the descriptions. Give him just enough information to get a design going, then start dropping stuff like eye colors/defining features that he can implement after the fact. I suppose it could just be that his crew are just too lazy to spend any amount of time searching for descriptors, which would be a shame.

I remember seeing Harry Potter 1 in the cinema and thinking the Snape casting was totally wrong. I thought Grima Wormtongue in LOTR looked far more like Snape as described in the book. I guess since it was a kids movie they toned it down.

Conversely, Peter Jackson overdid so much in LotR. Alan Rickman would have made a much more convincing Grima as Tolkien wrote him.

if snape looked like grima, neville would have already had a heart attack lol

Also I don’t think Grima’s actor had the right kind of menacing competence. Snape was extremely competent and brave, for all his faults. Grima was weak and slimy.

Jk Rowling herself ultimately chose Alan Rickman, didn't she? So I think she thought he looked like Snape well enough

Was kinda hoping they would have had him do Tyrion from Song of Ice and Fire, since he is very different looking in the books compared to Game of Thrones, especially later on.

I liked this, and I would like to see this repeated with books from classical literature- Dracula, Frankenstein, Heathcliff, Mr. Darcy, etc for the males/villains, and Lucille, Cosette, the Wicked Witch of the West, etc for the females/villainesses. Those are just examples. You could choose others.

@@wardulens7607 That's actually why I wrote Frankenstein and not Frankenstein's Monster. Dracula was the villain who was supposed to be very handsome. I've never Frankenstein's monster to be the villain in that story- the victim maybe but not the villain.

@@lastchancemonicam3948 idk I think both Frankenstein and his monster are both villains in their own way, so either would work for a challenge
