Kingdom Death: Monster is a fully cooperative tabletop hobby game experience. Set in a unique nightmarish world devoid of most natural resources, you control a settlement at the dawn of its existence. Fight monsters, craft weapons and gear, and develop your settlement to ensure your survival from generation to generation.
Campaign System
Embark alone or with up to 3 friends (5 with game variant) on a 5-30-lantern-year campaign, with each year consisting of a cycle of hunt, showdown, and settlement phases. The settlement phase is an intricate civilization building game in which you spend very limited resources to build buildings, research new technologies, train your warriors, and set up your strategy for survival. During the hunt, you'll encounter a series of stories in a "choose your own adventure" style journey through various events and encounters. Finally, when you meet the monster you're pursuing, you'll engage it in an a massive arena-style battle where only one party is going to survive. If your party lives, you'll be able to bring the spoils back home to use in expanding your settlement.
Monster AI System
Each of the 7 monsters included are controlled by their own pair of decks that scale to 3 levels of difficulty (except for the final encounter, which has only 1 level and it's HARD!). Every encounter, even with the same monster, is highly variable and no two showdowns will resolve the same way. Players will have to plan their gear and keep their minds sharp to prevail.
Gear System
In Kingdom Death: Monster, survivors will craft gear from resources earned from defeating monsters or found on their hunt. Each survivor has a 3x3 gear grid. Selection and arrangement of your gear cards is critical, as many provided bonuses and activate special rules when aligned correctly.
Story Event System
40+ Story Events plus over 100 hunt encounters will shape and guide your campaign. Story Events detail important evolutions in your civilization, introduce new monsters, and provide rich detail for your campaign. Some will trigger automatically as you progress through the campaign, but most will be entirely based on choices players make.
Story Events cover everything from setting up and fighting a monster to key events that happen within the overall story. Some are triggered directly from the timeline and others from choices you make in game.

For this kind of dry brushing paint job, I think a middle step where you spray white/grey paint from above after priming would go a long way helping you bring out the detail and make your dry brushing much faster.

You can certainly do a lot more to get detail :) at the moment, we wanted to start with the very basics! Since Shira has only ever painted a single model before. We want people to get playing :)

So, a couple of tips from a semi-pro painter. 1. Just an educational commnet (doesn't relate to anything you did in the video) -- the main property that separates primer from other paints is that primer adheres to plastic. Acryllic paints don't adhere to plastic and would more or less immediatelly rub off if you apply them directly onto a plastic mini. Primer sticks to the plastic, and then the acryllic sticks to the primer. 2. You really should water down your primer. Despite what you said about laying a thick coat, it's actually very easy to put on a coat that's *too* thick and clog up all the nice details of a mini. For the particular brand you're using (matte black Vallejo surface primer), I usually do 7:4 primer to water. You can round it off to 2:1 primer to water if you're lazy with measuring, and you can substitute thinner for water, but I find it mostly a waste of money (espeically if you paint a lot). Water works fine. 3. On a similar note, acryllic paint for drybrushing should not be watered down or diluted. If you're very experienced you should slightly dampen your brush before applying the paint for significantly smoother drybrushing, but it takes a very practiced hand. For beginners it's much better to not dilute the paint at all and get a slightly rougher but still good looking drybrush, than to try dampening or dilluting and accidently turning the drybrush into a solid base coat. 4. Drybrushing should always be done perpendicular to the edges of the part you're painting. The goal is to catch edges and protrusions, so you shouldn't go along the lines, always go against them. 5. Drybrushing is a technique made for highlighting. If Shira wanted to Crimson Croc to be red, I'd suggest starting with a dark red base coat over the black primer (with a regular brush, or just extremely heavy handed drybrush), and then using the light almost-no-paint drybrushing technique you're using in the video with a lighter shade of red. This would've created natural highlights on the edges and places where light would catch in real life, giving the mini the appearance of realistically illuminated red croc. The way you did it, skipping the red base coat, makes it look like a black croc illuminated by a red light (because the vast majority of the mini is still black from the primer, but there's red wherever light would catch it -- giving the appearance of a red light shining on a black beast).

Personally, if you were going for that kind of finish I would have tried to achieve a Sundrop look, similar to what Awaken Realms offers with their games. It is just as cheap, just as fast and IMO gives a better finish. There are many tutorials here on KZfaq that show you how you can achieve that look yourself.

With a lighter coat and then a wash :) certainly an option we might explore in the future! We like how the dry brushing looks and we only have a black primer on hand (so for KDM this a good choice)

Try slap-chop painting skill Prime black - dry brush grey - dry brush white lightly - put color (contrast paint or thin down paint with water) Have many video about this! I wish Quackalope review this !❤

For a quick paint job you could away prime in white and use Army Painter's Speed paints. If you are making the model one color it would be pretty easy and you would get both shadows and highlights in one coat. I used them for the base clans in Bloodrage and they turned out great.

When you're painting the smaller minis, Blu-Tac the model to the top of one of your paint pots. Makes them much easier to hold and you avoid getting paint all over your fingers.

My only criticism is that we didn't get shots of the finished models after they dried. Maybe it's my monitor settings but it was a little hard to see the drybrushing on the Crimson Croc when you were filming over Shira's shoulder and I was hoping we'd get finished close-up shots at the end.😉

A dark primer color will darken the subsequent paint layers, which is great for monsters and horror theme games. A light primer will result in brighter top coats. So if you love colorful pieces go with a light undercoat.

I would definitely use a spray primer instead of brush on primer. Takes far less time to apply and it dries in like 15mins. Typically use brush on primer to cover a mistake so you can repaint or if i just can't get outside for ventilation to prime with spray
