As far as for the paint drying out, you can use a wet palette to keep the custom mixed paint longer. This was extremely useful for painting miniatures for tabletop games.

Thank you so much making these videos Rachel, super helpful for someone learning this craft! A slightly unrelated question: I've been having issue with using black patina on wire accents. I see the accents in your alien piece at the end of the video look so nice and they took the patina well! Do you use pre-tinned copper wire for the accents, or tin the wire yourself? I'm hoping I just got a bad batch of pre-tinned wire. I thought maybe I need to buy wire that's already colored black, but I've read reviews about the solder not sticking because of anti-tarnish coatings and such. Can't seem to find an answer on this anywhere and would appreciate your thoughts. 😊

This is just the video I needed I have been starting with Pebeo 160 and have been struggling with bad brushes. I also had no idea they had gold and iridescent!

Hi! 👋 I love Blick, too! I get soooo much there. Quick tip for painting strips, lines, etc. 🤔After you've measured out where you want the lines, strips, stripes, etc., apply strips of tape (low tack is best) to put where the glass will NOT be painted on. After you've painted and it's dried, slowly and carefully peal off the tape. Ta-da! No more safety pin blues! Here's some help on the brush front..... 🖌 Princeton has some really good brushes. There is a brush brand called Robert Simmons and Simply Simmons. They are synthetic and made VERY WELL for their price...$3.43 per brush. This is Blick prices. Some of the groups of brushes under the Simmons name are discontinuing. Some are not and the brushes you use (the liners and the rounds) are not. I like my brushes a little stiffer than the natural Kolinsky-haired brushes, so I stick with synthetic hairs. But, I don't want to paint with broom sticks so stay away from hog bristles and the house painting brushes (bristles too big for what you're doing anyway). Synthetic hairs also mean that no animal had to die for us to paint....win-win 😃!!! The liner brushes are the brushes that are long-haired. Of the 3 brushes you showed together you had 2 liners and a round brush. The round brush looked to be a size 2 or thereabouts? When painting details try rounds from 0/10 up to 3. Depending how large and what, I find 0/3, 0/2, 0/1, 0, 1 and 2 the most helpful. Liners are great for exactly what their named......liners for lining🙂 Simply Simmons also has a line of "XF" eXtra Firm. These are still synthetic and soft, but give more support. I am a silk painter and, depending on the silk, I like a little more support.....like a "cross your heart bra with an underwire" vs a "string bikini top" with very little material😉, lol! Anyway, hope that helped! God Bless!

Hi Rachel! Love your videos! I am planning to paint a stencil on a piece of glass in a panel. I want to make the letters red with a black outline. Is this something I can do with the black paint or would you recommend the outliner paint by Pebeo for this? Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your presentation. I have used the transparant orange Pebeo Vitrea 160 on glass that is in my shower wall. I wasn't able to put it in the oven of course as I painted the glass which was already in the shower. What would you suggest I use to paint over my painted glass now to protect it? As it's in a shower it will frequently get wet and also will need cleaning to remove soapy water.

Do you know if a countertop convection oven works as well as a traditional kitchen model? I'd like to use something simple in my garage. Love your videos! Thanks so much!

Yes, absolutely! Since my studio is just a shed, I use a simple countertop toaster oven and it works fine. I have had to change the temperature since my toaster oven tends to burn the white paint I use if I have it at 325. I bake my pieces at 250 for 50 minutes and have had no problems with paint turning brown from the heat.

Hiya ! I'm new here and I'm trying to update an old wicker table that has a glass top. I got the pebeo paint but unfortunately I just realized the my oven is too small for the piece that I am painting ? Is there another solution to set the paint ?

Honestly just letting the paint dry for a few weeks sets it quite well. Ive tried peeling old paint that was not set in the oven and it required a lengthy soak in rubbing alcohol. Exposure to the elements wont work in your favor but its worth trying!

Great video! I saw the thinner in the lineup. Is the thinner needed or can you paint without it?

Dang it, I forgot to touch on that! Great question. Thinner is not necessary but is very helpful as the paint ages and thickens. I also find it helps mix the paint more easily and give different effects with the paint (more opaque acrylic style painting versus thinner watercolor style painting, for instance).

Does the time in the oven change depending on the size of the glass piece and amount of paint? Only painting small pieces,ie, bird feathers, and small leaves! Thank you ! 👍

Hi, great question! I treat all paint the same and bake it the full time even when it's only a small detail. Because of this, I try to save all painted pieces so I can bake them all at the same time and be as efficient as possible :)
