I really like the idea of placing these stones somewhere and giving people the hashtag as a way to interact online through them!
@miss_nohemi
@miss_nohemi 6 жыл бұрын
Cinder Block Studios that's a great idea. I live in Idaho and my town began doing this. People will paint a rock and place it somewhere in the city. When someone finds it they can take a picture and hashtag it. It's fun to see how many people have seen your rock. They even have classes for little kids where they can learn art by painting their own rocks.

Beautiful😍 . which types of colors are appliable on stones?
@RobertNZ
@RobertNZ 7 жыл бұрын
You can use any acrylic (water-based) or enamel (oil based) paints, but it pays not to mix the two as they are likely to react creating crazy and somewhat ugly results. If you're not experienced using (and cleaning up) enamel, I'd advise you to stick to nice cheap water-based acrylic paint. You'll find a great range of colours in cheap test-pots at your local house-paint store. Avoid 'poster' paint from craft stores ... it can be a bit cheap and nasty, and create a powdery and unstable result. Always be sure to allow your paint to dry COMPLETLY before applying a varnish over-coat ... if you're unsure, give your stone a full day in the sunlight. :D

@RobertNZ
@RobertNZ 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry I did not get back to you sooner.... the undercoat is the same kind of paint as the rest - it is an acrylic interior house-paint, made by a NZ company called 'Resene'. Brand not-withstanding, almost any interior acrylic house pain should do a great job. Here's a video I made on choosing paint - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLh2aM6pptGooH0.html Best of luck :D :D

Yes, we sure do .... you can spray a well-dried stone with clear-coat, or give it a nice thick layer of clear varnish. Be sure to give your stone a few days to dry fully, though, so the paint and the overcoat don't react.

Thank you for this. Encourages me to have a go with some groups I do volunteer art sessions with. I also have a grief activity that calls for putting the stones in water. Do you reckon your undercoat/overcoat/varnish process would be enough of a seal, or is there some other product I should be getting?
@RobertNZ
@RobertNZ 7 жыл бұрын
If you're planning on submerging them, I'd give them two or three top-coats of clear varnish (top and bottom) to seal them completely. The drying between coats means it will take quite a while, but you'll have a durable finished product.
@mexico53ify

Sorry I did not reply quickly ... I seem to have missed your comment! The answer is YES it's a sharpie! If you're getting bleeding when you spray, try giving your stones an extra day or two to dry, or spray-coat them in very light layers with plenty of drying time in between. Best of luck!

@RobertNZ
@RobertNZ 7 жыл бұрын
Heya - the paint used in this video are all test-pots of acrylic from our local Resene ColorShop. It's the type of internal-house-paint test-pot you'd get if you were looking into painting your kitchen cupboard doors, touching up the paint on a chair, etc .... very 'general' stuff, but most certainly not 'poster' paint as the craft-type paints get very powdery when they dry. Once it's *thoroughly* dry, i.e. a few days in the sunlight, any general clear-coat or varnish spray will protect it well. I hope this helps ;)
