you have a good way of labeling what we need to do. Like when you said that the paint is more creamy now. That is a good point for the Third details. Happy Valentine's Day. And thank you for your succinctly information.

Thank you thank you Eric. I've had Snapseed for ages but I couldn't use it so well. Cropping was all I could do. Simplifying has always been my BIG problem, which sometimes frustrates me which a lot. !!!! Now I'll take notes and try again!!! 🌷🍷 Have a great holiday with your family Eric, you've been an inspiration.

tdm 850 I’ve had a similar experience, having only sketched in the past (and not very well, just for fun). I’ve been binge watching some watercolour videos and today it just occurred to me it’s not about rendering detail, it’s about broad colours and broad impressions. It’s a different way of thinking and I think it’s quite exciting! This was certainly the best video I’ve seen so far PS: actually the detail thing reminds me of years ago when I had to learn to “loosen up” from my classical music training where everything had to be precise, to being able to a company students doing modern songs and accepting that some improvisation and “errors“ (aka things not on the printed sheet) could be gotten away with… And in fact improved the feel of that kind of music.!

For my value studies in charcoal, after changing the pic to greyscale, I use the "posterize" function, that simplifies the picture into basic value areas. When using it as reference I did find it helpfull to also have the unposterized greyscale pic along.

Wow, amazing stuff. I just downloaded the app and is great, is like a little and basic photoshop in the smartphone. I take lots of photos to eventually use as reference for a watercolor painting so this app plus the advice you gave will be of great help. I find that cell phone cameras are too wide lens and is necessary to make a big crop to end up with the less distorted part of the image and also just to get a better composition. Thanks and have a great new year! Cheers.

Thank you for making this video! I have just started watercolour not too long ago and while I had taken a class to learn how to work with watercolour, it didn't teach me how to simplify images. Now that I've run some of the images I attempted to paint (and failed spectacularly) using your method, I understand why I failed. I tried to get too much detail even though I wanted to do the loose form that you frequently do. Thank you for sharing ❤️
