Practice, and take it at your own pace- I’m a very slow painter too. Just practice at a comfortable pace, you’ll find it easier and quicker as you get the muscle memory :) It all sounds very cliche, but there’s truth to it. Good luck, and Godspeed to your projects

It was nice to see your 10 minutes and 1-hour minis actually look like they were painted in that amount of time, I've seen a few videos where people claim to paint minis in short amounts of time that have me doubting that it was actually done in that amount of time. Some minis are obviously more straightforward than others but generally, one mini per day is about the amount of time it takes me if I want a decent result, and that's just a decent result, if I want to paint a character with lots of details to look impressive it's days. It may be time-consuming but I'd rather have a finished mini I can be proud of than have 10 minis that I'm disappointed in.

I honestly think you could make a case that these nergle marines are the best minis GW ever produced. So much texture and greeble-age, but because they're generally sickly and gross you can monotone anything you want with wash and highlight - or pick out every detail - or anything in between. I have a Typhus I got cheap from a newsagent that was closing down, but I'm afraid to get started. 😄

I know that this is a fun video but I think that it gives people not the best idea of how speedpainting should be done. Speedpainting is all about selecting the right technique and not about doing the same things you use for display/high-level painting and doing it faster. White undercoat or zenithal with contrast paints instead of layering would be much better for the 10 minute version. Probably also for a 1 hour option that would have been better as you would put a contrast and then have a bit of time for the highlighting.

What you propose sounds good, but I don't think that I would manage to pick out all the details with different contrast paints in 10 minutes, so leaving them black instead of bright white (wraithbone) is imho better. However, using contrast paints and building on top of them would definitely be viable for 1 hour paintjob....or so I think. Actually, this gave me an idea to compare all the different speedpainting methods, so thank you!

I like this format a bit better than 3 minis in 10 mins, 1h and 10hs. At the end you have one nice mini instead of 1 nice mini, 1 meh mini and 1 s*it mini. Also you made it fun to fix your previous steps along the way.

As a rookie (who only just found your awesome channel, so thank you for being you) I am often wondering HOW MUCH TIME do I have to spend on a mini? Currently I'm doing 3-8 hours pr. mini depending on if its a champion or just a grunt from the pack, but these videos help to give an idea of how much one should expect, after a certain amount of time (and of course skill/experience also counts, so im not approaching this with a time limit).. but it helps to expand ones horizont in this hobby

I recently painted 21 Plague Marines in batches of 3-4. It can work, but it took me a while to figure it out. What I did, was: -4 layer Slapchop primer (black, dark grey at 45°, lighter grey at 30° and white drybrush all over). -Contrast on the armor, including all the green parts, weapon, tentacles, tubes, bones, teeth and pointy things -silver on the metal linings, weapon parts, grenades and chainmail -drybrush silver on the black weapon parts -Agrax Earthshade over all silver and green parts -clean up -highlight some stuff -smack on some rust and blood -waste an insane amount of tufts and shit on the bases -done I can send you the results if you are interested. Per mini it was about 1,5 to 2,5 hours and I am very pleased with the results. :)

As a deathguard player, I batch paint them regularly. I feel the problem you had is that you didn't basecoat whit the drybrush, they get done really easily whit that. I prime them dark brown, then drybrush deathguard green, ogrin Camo, wash to even down the texture, and from there I start highlighting. The dark brown primer also work well as a base for the bronze, be it nmm or not. The tentacle and nurgling do take time too, but they to work well with good drybrushing. A deep purple base, into some rakath, diluted carriburgh shade, then new highlight work like a charm for a sickly look skin. I churn them really fast, I think I can complete a 5 man unite in 5 hour. But I have painted tons of them, and I don't use nmm on them, so that speed up the process dramatically. Practice just can't be betten.

An airbrush is only cheating, if you also consider a pressure washer cheating for cleaning a convertible. Sure, you can get certain parts of the car cleaned super fast, if you closed the roof or are extremely skilled and don’t hit the inside of the car. It’s also completely useless if you want to clean the dashboard. An airbrush is a mighty tool if used correctly. If not, it’s no cheat at all. You obviously know how to use it. I have 26 plague marine army with 5 terminators and 3 Deathshroud terminators. I almost went insane doing it. They have so many details they look like Christmas tree sometimes.

do you use separate airbrush for priming and paiting? how do you find the Vallejo surface primer (good, bad, too thick) ?

I did everything with one airbrush in the past - the one you see in the video. Now, for precision work I use infinity cr, but it's not necessary. Vallejo surface primer is my go to primer, but as with any other primer - don't go overboard with it. Also, I recommend washing the model with soap beforehand with airbrush primers

I would say about an hour of actual paint time.. not including the airbrush setup time, cleaning, chasing down the paints, and such.. should be good enough to get the results decent for table top.. actually an hour is probably longer since you really need to let the paint dry completely before adding another coat or you will get a messy mess..

After watching your videos I bought a bunch of equipment to start this hobby and printed a lot of minis in my resin printer... now I only need to muster the courage to start painting. I would love tips on how to practice, I feel like I need to have a plain dumb guide instead of a free-form painting session... I considered buying one set of minis + paint on amazon, but after reviewing I preferred to just buy vallejo basic paints because I feel it is worth having good paints than getting a mediocre mini + paint set, idk...

So the absolute easiest way to start painting (once you have the tools etc.) is to look up a step by step guide for a certain miniature and copy it. I did this with some warhammer minis (by seeing WarhammerTV tutorials) and that's when most of my improvement initially happened. Once you have some basic understanding of what is going on, you can apply the same principles to other mini without seeing a step by step tutorial. If you don't have the exact mini used in any given tutorial, pick a certain part of a mini (let's say you want to paint golden armor) and paint it with the steps provided in the video guide. Hope that helps!

Just like with Miniac, I would like to see the reverse. First 10 hours, then 1 hour them 10 minutes. Because you will probably donthe 10minute one better if its last. Like what if you airbrushed that one for two minutes?

Takes me about 3 hours to get your 1 hour results, (probably worse). But the difference from 1 hour to 10 is a nice indicator that if you're looking for a ready to play army in a timely manner, comparing your stuff with GW's does not make sense! They probably spent 10+ hrs per miniature, even for basic troops.

I hate when minipainters say a model they painted looks like shit when it really doesn't. The one hour paintjob looked good. We know what shitty paint jobs look like. It’s's not that. They think they're being modest, but it just comes off as either A) This level of painting is shitty and if your best attempt looks like this, it's shitty or B) I need people to believe I can paint better than this or else they won't take me seriously. Just say it looks decent, because it does. I don't see unwanted texture. I don't see a malaise of discoherent hues with no attention to color choice. I see a finely painted miniature. It's like benching 250lbs and then pretending like that's garbage.

"And did I succeed?" Not by your standard, but by the standard of what actually gets put on the table? Yeah, you did. Besides it's a stylistic paint job, at the distance of it standing on the table and someone standing up, it looks impactful, like a comic book image. Note that I'm in no way trying to pat you on the back and give you sympathy, I'm just saying that if you actually, *ACTUALLY* go look at what's put on tables in shops, clubs, tournaments and at home games, half of them aren't even primed (besides tournaments) and it's more common than not that someone brings half finished units. It's the curse of being a mini painter who actually cares about what they do, standards go up immeasurably, unfairly even. It's also why I avoid instagram like the plague becaus the standard there is insufferably high.

Also deathguard Green is the worst paint ever.. I’ve spend 5h painting my first plague marine (it was at the gw tho so less efficient but yeah) 5 coats to have a nice smooth result to work with thankfully I own the dg green primer..

I don't like this format. It doesn't make sense to watch the first attempts. It would be more useful if you showed which techniques and results lead to which outcomes. For example, a comparison between slapchop, grimdark, eavy Metal, and volumes... Then there would be something to compare and gain added value from the video

The title of the video is a bit deciving, the only true part is the 10 minute in my oppinion. Because when you started the 1 hour " challange " you continue to build upon the same color basically giving you 1 hour and 10 minutes, and when the 10 hour challange was done it wasnt "only" 10 hours it was 11 hours and 10 minutes. Dont get me wrong you made it look cool but the title of the video dont fit the video so good.

It isn´t really a fair comparison, IMHO. In all 3 attempts, you are using an approach for display quality. Obviously, you wouldnt get anything satisfying after 10min or 1hr. It would be more interesting to compare a "tabletop" quality approach in 10min, an improved tabletop quality in 1hr and a display quality in 10hr, if your objective is really to show whether it is worth it investing 10hr or where you return on time investment starts to plateau. If you just want to show that you cant have display quality in 10min... well, not sure it was necessary to prove it.

I am just going to say that while he is a great minis painter, he is terrible at speed painting. You need to have proper priorities for doing minis quickly. I am a mediocre minis painter and I could have done better in 10 mins. Dont spend 2 mins just on the eyes, You base coat everything fast, then cover everything with some nuln oil.

That was really inefficient fast painting. Instead of doing the same steps three times, you could've adjusted your methods for the different time goals.
