Join me as I explain start to finish the entire process for making what I feel is one of my favorite paintings I've ever made. I center the discussion around two great questions from a couple of instagram followers. One how do I see a reference photo and start a painting? Secondly, what is one area I'm so comfortable with that the painting just feels spontaneous? I repeatedly come back to these two questions while also covering a ton of painting techniques. I always discuss my overall approach, why I'm painting these shark teeth using acrylic paint on a wood panel. Other materials included like acrylic retarder, matte medium, saral transfer paper, golden acrylic isolation coat, gloss varnish and more. I break down my though process for realistic paintings versus abstract paintings and my efforts to blend the two styles together. I hope you enjoy this video and get something out if to help you improve your own art. Thanks for watching.

Hello Randy i have watched some more of your videos and I can not believe how it seems that you are speaking for me. My journey feels so similar it's eerie. I wonder if you have found success in selling your work that is where i am struggling and am some how losing my motivation for painting because I don't have a good outlet to sell my stuff. Really enjoy your narration and describing the process. I live in Florida have always wanted to paint and collaborate with someone who seems to think as i do on occasion do you have any interest thx.

Hey there. First off thanks for watching and sharing. Really appreciate that. I'm super glad my content is resonating with you. It really means a lot and inspires me to make more videos. I have had some success in the last 3 years or so selling work, but it is in no way enough to do full-time. I was in a gallery for a little over a year, but they had to shut down due to lack of sales during covid. Now I show and sell my work in a very large local eclectic antique market. I've had some success selling stuff via instagram as well. Not selling or not having good outlets to sell can be disheartening, but I honestly never really was concerned about selling from the beginning. I do sell and try to sell stuff now, but my main focus is still on just creating and the process in general. It helps me to just keep getting better and I trust the money will come. DM me on instagram and let me know what you have in mind for collabs. I usually don't do them these days, just because I have so many projects going on... but I'm always interested in connecting with other artists... so let's talk :)

Hey Randy. Thanks so much for answering my question with this video. It was great to see you creating such incredible realistic work and cool to see how perfectly you were able to capture the reference photo. You are so good at realistic painting as well as abstract. It's really incredible. And yes, I'm super interested in you continuing to talk about these two questions with future videos. I have another question for you that you might like to answer in a video and I'll DM you on Instagram when I'm able :) Thanks again, Randy. Super cool video :)

I would say that you paint more in an intuitive way with a rollercoaster technique. Your inside is basically directing your moves because you are so free when you are striking the canvas to bring forth your image. I agree you are definitely not a step by step painting.
