I hadn't planned to paint Jules le Jongleur to add to my Bretonnians today. I had planned to get going on some legacy army tutorials for you guys but...well it didn't work out and I needed a fun project to clear my head instead! Unfortunately I don't have his Knight, Tristan le Troubadour to paint alongside him but I'm super happy to have this fun character done and on my shelf! I'm having so much joy painting old school models these days-the level of detail on new Age of Sigmar models can be amazing, but also slows you down a lot! Hope this video helps show you that if things aren't working out, pick up something fun instead rather than quitting!

A lovely model, with that colour scheme gives a very Harleyquinn vibe. As for retro models, I'd like to see done nothing for Bretonnia stands out more than Bertrand the Brigand and his cheerful fellows.

I really think that Warhammer needs more of these funny models, both individual models and at least parts on sprues to make a funky looking one in a unit or two. It feels like GW kinda forgot all the humor they used to have among all the grimdarkness that a lot of us enjoy. Even some of the standard Bretonnian infantry models have a few funny looking ones sprinkled in that has a level of fun that modern Warhammer doesn't have with everything being overly serious. And don't get me started on the Necropolis Knights, skeletons surfing on huge snakes is amazing and just what Warhammer needs, be it Old World, AoS, or 40K :)

Absolutely. If my bretonnia box ever arrives it's the men at arms box with all the ugly mugs, friar and jester I'm most excited to paint up.

@@thefyrdman amen! Might even get a box when it comes separate just for the funny heads to put on other minis. The weirdness also really helps to give variety to painting so it’s not the same guy over and over again. The world needs more fun!

I have the old Citadel wizard with machine gun. I adore it. I wish I had Jules or the wizard with chainsaw as well. Those crazy old models were so fun.

I recently kitbashed Tristan and Joules and got surprisingly close to the original miniatures using just the plastic kits. Admittedly, Joules has Empire Militia legs, but beyond that they are 100% Bretonnian.

I like your idea of the jester being a secret wizard. It reminds me of the interpretation of the story of Arthur, Camelot and Merlin that the BBC did a decade or so again, where Merlin spent almost the whole story hiding from Arthur his magical abilities, using them to save Arthur's skin repeatedly, but appearing to Arthur as a bumbling fool. So I think it's more amusing if the Baron doesn't know that his fool is a powerful wizard, frequently saving his army from defeat in battle. Bit disappointed your jester doesn't have a red balloon. I really like the character in the Gretchin unit for 40K Orks, and generally the army is well seasoned with Grots of one size or another. A model that I don't have yet is the Mek with Shokk Attack Gun, which I am really looking forward to having, even if the rules for it are less fun this edition.

The new Lizardmen paint up amazingly well with the slapchop technique and I've found the Contrast paint purples are far and away Citadel's best purples. I don't do slapchop often but they're pretty much made for it! Also love the Old World content, you're doing the Gods' work here man!

It's weird in this hobby we feel we need to feel productive so it's nice to see a model that's just for the heck of it (and you don't need to paint 20 of them to form a unit).

I just ordered a group of Battle Pilgrims and their Reliquae from ProxyWars and I am stoked to add that. Just the idea of these zealots worshiping a dropped gauntlet from their Grail Knight and going to war with them. Basically they are groupies fighting the good fight. I just picture the Grail Knight rolling his eyes as they struggle to keep up with him.

Sometimes it’s important to paint something for yourself that’s just fun. Sorry the purple was not working for you. Naggaroth Night is my go to base for purple, followed by Xereus and then genestealer purple. I have really been loving the Old World’s return and am currently working on my Bretonnians and Skaven but the one thing I’d love to own is a Classic 90s Chaos Dwarf army. I have 17 of the plastic warriors from that time on the way and am so excited to paint them! Can’t wait for the Skaven video later in the ‘squeak’. 6th Ed Skaven Army book has a great series of lists at the back of the which could inform an Eshin army of you have a copy to hand. Of course Skryre is the best best clan.😂

On odd old models. I’ve just finished painting the Dwarf Lords of Legend for my Old World army. I’ve got drinking/drunk dwarfs to paint up for the army too.

Its one off the models from the period that there where a lot of characters from robinhood. you can use him as a sergeant in the men at arms.

On the subject of purple, i know you try to stick to citadel for vids but the vallejo imperial purple set is fantastic, i used it on my thalia for the comp 8 violets and purples to work with, might be worth a look if you're really after a purple scheme
