Best story in the world. One teacher gave your mom the message that she was not an artist. That thought stuck with your mom all of her life. Yet, your mom encouraged your gift, Emma. Beautiful story.

How special that you get to do this with your mom. My moms would have loved watercolor, she painted in acrylics and I ended up with the few paintings she had done. They are a special reminder of my moms many hidden talents. Enjoy the those special moments and make lots of memories.

Emma, you are so blessed to have your mom! You are precious, and I'm sure it's all because of her!!! She did a great job for never having done watercolor. Those roses of hers were way better than my 1st, 2nd, even 3rd try! Lol! You are so patient. There's nothing better than a mother and daughter being so close and you two are a great inspiration to others! I lost my mom when I was 7, and my step mother last year. Hold these times close to your heart!! ❤️🖌️💜

It was so sweet of you to take that time with your mom. I could see the hurt in your expressions when she told you what that 'teacher' told her in grade 1!! That stayed with her all her life. Yet, she still encouraged you and gave you the tools to explore your love of art. That's what a mom does. Treasure your time with her......... and bless you both......

My Mom is a famous watercolor artist in Seattle and I am trying to follow in her foot steps. I live in Oregon but we talk everyday and talk about our art. She is 92 years old and still is entering art shows and is active in the Northwest Watercolor Society. As you can probably tell I am very proud of my Mom. It was so fun watching you and your Mom.

Great job!! I totally agree that encouragement is all you need. It makes me sad when I hear stories of people who were told at a young age they are not talented, squashing their love of art😞. I was lucky to grow up in a family who were very creative & we never questioned if we re good at it, we just did it & had fun.

OMG--this is the sweetest video I've seen thus far this Valentine's Day, Emma. When your Mom started talking about her "immature" technique that the teacher wrote, It made me tear up. Aww..Glad your Mom found the time to paint with YOU! And I have lots of ideas for cards for my hubs, my friends, sister, etc. These are a GREAT start! Thank you Emma and Mom!

I lived the exact experience as your mother. My degree was in education since I wanted to teach. I always wanted to paint but had no talent. I really appreciate your videos! First of all, I love that you are making this memory with your sweet mom! This made my day as I am painting with you. I lost my mom a year ago in February. The other reason why I really like it, is because it is really neat to see a video that shows someone that’s just learning beside someone that knows what they’re doing, and how the paint and water react together with the paper. It is very helpful to see see how you react to that and the advice you’re giving her! I agree with someone else, you should share some more videos of the two of you together.

Your mom did brill! She is a natural! Shame old school system failed so many of us! I am a leftie and the first time I picked up some scissors in my left hand they wouldn't cut ....I said to teacher these scissors don't cut ....her reply....you are using them in the wrong hand! from that day I mastered using the right hand to cut! BUT feel this adaptation hampered my true creativity as a child!

To your mom~ I can 100% relate to everything you said in the beginning of this video. I was told at a very young age (around age 6-7) that my drawing of a bird was awful by my mom. Any time I would show her my art projects from school she would ask what it even was and then toss it away. I believed her that my ability to create art was not good and for YEARS never even tried to draw or paint. I would always say I am awful at it because that is what I was told like decades ago! So I did the same as you and did the complete opposite with my kids and when they showed any interest in art I encouraged them and pumped them up and hung there artwork all over my house as if they were my little Van Gough's and guess what? They became amazingly artistic and LOVE art! I started back at trying art again after leaving my abusive husband and used art as my form of therapy and it helped and still helps me cope with the scars of ptsd. It really is astounding how those negative words we heard as a child carried with us throughout our lives as a type of white noise in the background of our mind telling us the lie that we weren't good enough. Shame on them but hooray for us for doing the opposite with our own children! To you Emma~ You are an amazing artist and I love coming to your channel to get inspiration to work on my own art using your tutorials as my guide. Thank you!!!
