Happy 4th. We just had our Canada day here full of tornados, Very nice now I want watermelon, I just use mayco underglazes no complaints I do know an empty black goes a long way without washing out lol. Totally agree on the forms I am a handbulder only and use a pool noodle as my cup former

@corryg6403 Oh sorry about the tornados! We've not had any issues with Mayco. Amd they're priced so much less, which is nice. Thanks for watching! 😀

Hi Lisa Very, very nice as usual😊. When the underglace is too thin does cornstarch help? Mayco also sells a powder named Mayco AC-310 silcscreen medium. This helps really to make the underglaze thicker. By the way: I like the melon stripes outside. Thank you very much for sharing❤
@WildAcornsArtStudio11 күн бұрын
@estherhilber545 Thanks! 😀 No, you can not add cornstarch to the underglazes. I'm not familiar with the powder you're referring to. Although, I have made my own gum solution from the dry powder that they sell.

over the sides for sure! LOVE THEM! and BTW: MOHO: Amaco has had its share of issues the past few months. Cara is no longer doing her videos, they say there are camera/technical issues and Im experiencing the same issues as you have with their underglazes...way way way too runny. again, this is MOHO hope Amaco gets their acts together soon....as I love their Velvets!

@Mariede425 Oh wow, didn't know Cara had stopped doing her videos. I try to watch her from time to time, to stay in touch with any updates. I have had issues with their Gum Solution also, turning my commercial glazes runny. Didn't realize they've had other issues as well. Thanks for the info. And thanks for watching the video! 😀

Very nice to watch. They are cute plates, Lisa! 🍉 Our peach industry was decimated from a freeze in January. We have to import. Not one local peach this year.😢
@WildAcornsArtStudio13 күн бұрын
@@AudreyLynnStudios Thanks! :-) Oh, that's so sad about the peaches. Ours are imported from Georgia.

Thanks as always for the tips. I really want to try that soap. Also, you may need to add a drop of vinegar to kill bacteria and then add CMC Gum or Amacos brand brushing medium. I heard once from Amaco that their additive changed and is more prone to bacteria eating it [smelliness and runny]
@WildAcornsArtStudio11 күн бұрын
@nonya4754 Thanks! Haven't tried vinegar. I usually add a drop of bleach. Someone told me just recently that Amaco may have changed formulas amd is having some issues. I ruined several of my glazes by adding their Gum Solution to them, so I think they are having issued with that as well. All good info. Thanks!

Fun little dishes! Call or email Amaco techs about the underglaze getting thin. I did a while ago and they told be that the bacteria breaks down the gum solution in the UG. They suggested adding gum solution to the UG to give it better viscosity. I add it only to what I'm immediately using, like a lid-full at a time, because if you add it to the entire bottle, it will just break down again. That said, do check in with them. They are very helpful!

Thanks Karen. I never add gum solution to my underglazes, but I do get the bacteria growth in the Reds, yellows, and oranges. What's odd, is that those aren't the ones getting thin. The Avocado Green and the Chartreuse are the worst. I ended up adding a few drops of bleach to the red, orange and yellow, so it'll be interesting to see the effect. I've done it before without any change in the glaze color, so hopefully it'll be the same this time. Thanks for the info!!!

Love those plates! How do you avoid warping even on the small plates? Even if I weigh mine down while drying (they’ll be ok after bisque) they will warp in the high fire.
@WildAcornsArtStudio3 күн бұрын
@tngal811 Do you remember to compress both sides of your slab of clay after you roll it out? That will help remove the memory of the clay from when it was in a curved form. (Clay has a memory.) Also, make sure they're not too thin. Thin clay likes to warp. I don't add sand bags to the small plates, but I do cover them in plastic for a few days.

So it would be fun to watch you making the plate is it made with a slab of clay and using a pressed mold on a piece of foam?
@WildAcornsArtStudio13 күн бұрын
@patriciakoenig3966 Thank you! There's more info at the end of the video about how I made them if you're interested, but I am going to do a video, because so many people are interested. Basically, I used a square plastic container, that has rounded edges to cut the shape from a slab of clay, and yes, then I pressed it into a piece of foam using the bottom of a plastic dry roasted peanut jar. 😀 It also has rounded edges. Thanks for watching.

Hi. I love your whimsical pieces. I think I'd put the stripes over the rim. I recently bought some sunshine yellow underglaze that's really runny. I have to use heaps of it. Keep the videos coming 😀
@WildAcornsArtStudio13 күн бұрын
@carolynpollack1083 Thanks Carolyn! ❤️ Someone else posted that they heard Amaco is having some issues with their underglazes, but no further details than that. So I'll have to check into that. I would suggest leaving the lid off of the jar for a few days or until it gets to your desired consistency. Have a great day.

Lisa the plates are so cute! What form did you use to make them if you don’t mind me asking. I also had to have a sleep test a week ago at home. I couldn’t sleep very well also with my test. We got a new kitten given to us a month ago. She’s just full of it! Thank you for showing us the watermelon plate. Have a happy 4th of July.

@@JacquelineStevens-to9py Thank you so much! Kitties are so much fun. ❤️ I just found out that my home sleep test did not work, so I guess I'll have to do it again. 😞 I used homemade forms. The bottom of an empty square plastic peanut jar for the impression. I cut it out using the top edge of a plastic container that held coleslaw from our local deli. (They sell their empty containers.) I'm going to work on making a video for these. I'm really happy with the shape.
