Another great show - thanks! I have just completed binge watching all the past episodes over the last week, so am very happy to have new episodes come every two weeks. Great mix of content. Two topics I’d be interested in for future shows: 1) how to best manage focus (& depth of field) for a shot like the digger? How do you chose the f-stop and where to focus on? I’d probably stop down as much as possible without getting too much diffraction and then focus on a point 1/3rd into the scene, but would love to hear how you approach this in wide angle shots. 2) Solid workflow for rating/selecting images in Lightroom. When you sometimes have 100s of frames after a day of shooting, how do you go about pruning, rating, key wording (?) the images? All too often I end up picking a few images that I like, work on them, and there’s a growing collection of unreviewed, unrated, uncategorized images that are gathering digital dust. Would love to see a segment on your approach to this.

Hi Ulrich. Firstly, thanks for supporting Photography Online - it's much appreciated. Also thanks for your comments. We cover things like workflow and rating images on our monthly webinar - Mc2Live so maybe try chacking that out to see if it ticks any of your boxes. With regards to focusing - we have touched on this before but we will continue to focus on it (see what I did there?!!) in future shows. All the best. (Marcus).

High quality content as always. Please remember though that not all your viewers are using full frame cameras. Some content for users of crop sensors and micro four thirds would be good - looking at the merits and disadvantages of different sensor sizes and systems. For example, your light painting exercise using Olympus's Live Composite feature might be interesting - being able to see your photo as you build it.
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith. We have an Olympus mft feature coming out soon. Just waiting for end of lockdown so we can finish filming it. However, if we did the Live Composite on the painting with light, then everyone else would complain that they can’t do that on their cameras, so we can’t win!

@@PhotographyOnline Yes I will keep watching and I do understand the point about straight interviews but I thought the boxing intro was just OTT. The round (X) bell was ok as a point to make the review different from the norm I think. Overall I think the show has a nice and diverse enough feel without resorting to OTT gimmicks. A great deal of interesting and informative content that is very useful and entertaining. We will see how it progresses in its second year.

Interesting video... the drone feature. Did I miss any mention of the maximum height that a drone can fly at? The light painting feature, great I never thought of the relationship between the inverse square law and apertures. Usually I would mask off the light with my fingers. A real luxury having a crew, try doing all that on your own like most mortal photographers. :) Exposure blending will be your new best friend.

@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Clyde. Thanks for your comments but we can’t test every lens otherwise we’d need to do an hour long show on that alone. We tested the 3 most popular 100-400mm lenses, so the Nikon wouldn’t have been included anyway as it is not a 100-400mm. Also, if you start testing lenses which require different bodies then it can be difficult to compare them in detail, so we avoid doing that. We didn’t sell the feature as a comprehensive test of all lenses, but merely the ones most people are going to buy. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.

Enjoyed the telephoto review but thought it a bit of a non comparison as the Canon was always going to come out on top due to better glass and faster lens hence the astronomical price. Would have been a more relevant test if the lenses were all of similar price. I have the Tamron as I was not impressed that Sigma did not include a tripod ring. Also other reviews that pitted the two lenses against each other favoured the Tamron over the Sigma.

Suggestion: not everybody shoots full frame. Maybe your 70-200mm zoom review could include 50-150 (APS-C) and/or 35-100 (MFT)?
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hendrik. All the lenses we featured can be used on APS-C crops, so I am not sure what your point is? If we do a 70-200mm review, the sensor size is irrelevant, so by including a 50-150 would just make it complicated. We have a MFT feature coming up in the next couple of months. Thanks for your suggestion though and thanks for watching.

Did the Nikon 80-400 get left out because it starts at 80 and not 100?
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 3 жыл бұрын
We can’t test every lens otherwise we’d need to do an hour long show on that alone.

For the 100-400's, very nice comparison but interestingly you didn't consider the 70-200 2.8 plus 2x converter, with the Canons it's just about as sharp and a lot cheaper and then a more flexible bundle - would you consider doing a quick comment on this soon as it is a major ommission. I had the Tamron for a week then the second Tamron for a week then I just gave up, focus was better on one side than the other side of the image; but without these errors, it felt very good quality mechanically & had a tripod ring which is very important to me. Sigma was not considered as the lack of a tripod ring cancelled it out for me, too much of a compromise. Canon 100-400 was too expensive & just chunky. BUT! looking back through all the photos I had taked, nearly 100% were at 400mm. So I bought the Canon 400mm f5.6 and never looked back, way too many advantages. With a 400mm your landscape options are limited but for wildlife there is no issue with the lack of Image Stabilisation except early morning and later evening, but my tripod is always with me and attached. Would I like to have the 100-400? in many ways yes but basically I have no justification for it as I have the Sigma 70-200 2.8 for shorter lengths & then the 2.8 is a massive advantage.

Hi Andrew. Thanks for taking the time to comment. We will be doing a feature on 70-200mm lenses in the coming shows and we will include using a x1.4 and a x2 converter with these, so hopefully that will satisfy your request. Many thanks for watching.

Ok. Good show as always. Love the presentation and presenters. Whoever this week you took a long way around with the paint with light item. 99 percent of photographers are loners. Marcus should have done this on his own. It doesn't take 4 people to take this shot. I've taken many shots with light painting. I take multiple images then layer them. Some edits to use the best from each frame and its done. I also noticed the sky was flat and featureless. I'd have wait for the stars and taken a long exposure of that. A milkyway or aurora would at a lot. But hey thats how I play. The rest of the show was great. First time I've felt like being critical. Sorry for that but let's grow together. Stay safe folks. Still a big fan though.

Simon - Thanks for your feedback. You seem to be forgetting that we need to video the whole thing too! I specifically said in the feature that I didn't want to shoot the shot in the total dark as that would have lost all shadow detail and that wasn't the intention of the photo. The photo was to take a portrait of the digger, so that last thing I wanted was to have another element to distract from this. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching. (Marcus)
