She later died from her injuries in hospital.She told BBC News last year of her journey into a traditionally male-dominated world and desire to "do something different".

Having served in the Australian Military for 18 years and 2 years on attachment to the USAF & 4 ro the RAF, even I appreciate your kind sentiment for Marium.. It is also interesting to note that I know the sister of a Pakistan born woman (also died at a young age) who was the first Pakistan born woman to serve as an Officer in the Canadian Military..

We recently lost the US Navy's first female fighter pilot, Captain Rosemary Mariner to ovarian cancer. At her funeral the Navy was easily able to provide an all-female flyover in F-18 Hornet fighters. That spoke volumes of the progress women have made in the military. RIP Marium Mukhtiar. Farhan Ashraf Aircraft, any aircraft, are required to be inspected regularly and parts must be replaced periodically. The downed airplane probably had poor maintenance. The B-52 is almost 70 year old, but still flying safely and effectively by the USAF.
