Arjan and Arjun are not the same words. Arjan means "conquerer," and Arjun means "made of silver". Arjan is a name that is used mostly by Punjabis and Arjun in all other parts of India. And as you were saying, "Vailley" means friend, well it doesn't. Vailley and Bailley are different words. Vailley is a punjabi word that means a bold, fearless, and notorious man. What you were referring to is Bailley, and yes, it means friends. But Vailley and Bailley are two different words. I hope it brings some clarity.

song was originally composed by Punjabi folk artiste Kuldeep Manak and is based on the life and times of Arjan Singh Nalwa, the son of Sikh military commander Hari Singh Nalwa. The senior Nalwa was the commander-in-chief of the Sikh Empire’s armies in the early 19th century. His song Arjan was born in Jagraon, near present day Ludhiana, took over from his father after his death, fighting for the Sikh Empire against the Mughals and more importantly the expanding British rule in India.

This tune doesn't belong to one song, it belongs to a genre. There are many songs with this tune. This tune is used in Kavishri style of singing when they sing in Veer Ras. Indian music has something called "Rass" which literally means nectar or flavor. There are many kinds of Rass like Shringar (love), Shaant (peace/calm), Veer (bravery/fearlessness) Hassya(laughter/funny) etc. Each type of rass singing is meant to bring out the emotions they represent. This song is meant to bring out the feeling of fearlessness and bravery.

@@parneetb Yes I know what is. Dhadi Jathe sing these type of Vaaran which is why it is called that. This style of singing is also called Kavishri and they also use different kinds of Ras to evoke a feeling or flavor. This particular Ras is Veer Ras. Ras is part of traditional folk and Hindustani classical singing and also a part of Sikh music history. The show "Bandish Bandits" also has an episode where they show you 2 other types of Ras. Shringaar Ras and Viraha or Viraag Ras. They refer to them as Bhav in the show. You can listen to these in the last episode called Sangeet Samrat if you are interested. It's beautiful.

Arjun was one of the sons of legendary Sikh General Hari Singh Nalwa, conquered Afghanistan. The song depicts a time when the British cane to seize him. He had killed a man and his wife had committed sati. This upset the local magistrate who asked the brits to apprehend Arjun. He had a stand off with the brits where he eventually ran out of ammunition and started fighting with a small axe (gandhasi). He escaped and became an important figure in the first and second Anglo sikh wars. It's not about some gangster or Robin hood figure
