Regarding the thing about men in Pakistan wearing kajal (kohl), it's actually more common among Punjabis and mostly in more rural areas (it's worn because it's sunnah and because it has health benefits). As you said you definitely wouldn't see it in Karachi. (Edit: the word is surma)

kajal is widely used in entire southeast asia, by both hindus and muslims. Start bachpan se hota hai jb ma rat ko sone se phle apne bcho ko kajal lagati hai, its said to have health benefits. But youth today don't know these old things, glti unki nai hai because westernisation has taught them that kajal is only meant for makeup, and boys kaha makeup krenge. But ask any native old man/women about kajal, they will tell you how we have been using it since generations.
