Yes, there's a weird glitch bug here: 4:56. Ironic that it was with the "All work and no play..." reference from The Shining -- so maybe a poltergeist from the Overlook Hotel. BTW, this may be the first KZfaq lens review in history to use "All work and no play makes Jack and dull boy" for a lens chart, just sayin! 👍

many thanks! I own the 50-140 and the 70-300. One huge advantage of these Fuji zooms is they support the 1.4x and 2x convertor. I have found the convertors really useful for bird photography. I think the fixed 300mm upper range is good but a bit limiting given the small aperture it offers. So, think I will stick with the 70-300 and use my iphone13pro for intermediate street photography ranges. it's now good enough for that - finally.

A belated thanks, Chris! XT-5 user here for the last year. I have been shooting Nikkor glass via a Fringer. Great stuff, but while my NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a FINE lens, combined with the Fringer is a heavy, unbalanced beast. An awesome looking one for sure, but tiring when working street and events. This is my first native X fit lens, and MPB just sent me one that was in the OEM box and that I could not tell a difference from unboxing new. It's as light as my beloved NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR (actually a bit less without the Fringer) and is balanced perfectly. Sleek (almost too much so) and the focus is instant! The zoom ring is a bit stiff, but that's OK as I sure won't worry about lens creep. And a very big surprise for me (something that no one seems to mention) is that at a full 300mm extension, there is ZERO wiggle or slop! You are right about the construction feel. Metal has its own aura--but all plastics are not created equally. I feel the plastic--but it has a nice dense, solid, well-made feel. Not as vibrant and substantial as metal barrels, but a hell of a lot lighter to tote around! I think that this one is a keeper... text-green-game-over

Finally, I get to see how it performs. I've been waiting for someone to stock this lens, and what I see regarding stock status is confusing. One retailer sez it's "Back Ordered" while another one lists it as "New Item - Coming Soon", implying it has yet to come to the market, but after reading the comments below it's obvious the lens has already been out in the "wild"... Thank you for doing this video.

Had this lens on my Canon EOS 80D and almost never changed it. So the sensor stayed mostly dustfree and yes, it gave me a wide range of focal length and was perfect for travelling. Really happy I can get it now for my X-T4!!! Thanks for this video and all the others, explaning my X-T4 to me, as I am new to Fuji as of this summer!! Greetings from Switzerland

"Had this lens on my Canon EOS 80D" I am pretty sure that never happened. Since it was made for E-mount and it's incompatible with Dslr's You probably had either the 18-270mm or the 16-300 Di II. That said if you liked those i don't see why you won't like this one. I personally would never buy one. I'd rather carry my XF18-55 and XF55-200 and have a stop more light and better subject isolation. I won't take the but this goes to 300mm as the 55-200 is just sharper. So i can crop that point away without issue.

Thanks for this review. It answered the right questions. I have it on price radar, I got the 18-55 kit lens for my X T30II and the 55-230 but when I go to lost places I'd prefer not to have to change the lens and still be able to get close-ups of areas that are not accessible. Video isn't something I do so this lens seems to be a good idea. I like the way you present your content. Very easy to follow 🙂

I bought this lens yesterday, so far so good. In good light excellent. A lot of people warned me off this lens, but took a chance as I photograph Dolphins in the local canal, one minute they are close up the next metres away, there is no way to change lenses. My old xc 55-230 was ok at medium distance but not close up. Or further away. Fingers x it will suit me better

Hey buddy as a ex xt200 user I got for that body the 35mm 1.4 for daily use. The prime helped me alot of composition and for portraits anf street photography i got the Viltrox 85mm 1.8 which is super sharp and really cheap. However for general use id recommend the 18-55mm, my gf is very haooy with it. Hope this helps.

Great review, this could be a great walk around lens, especially for hiking trips! (that I hope to eventually get back to). I'm not so worried by the slow aperture from that aspect as landscapes are often taken at F9 or F11, so not an issue really. I better get saving up as soon as I can, hopefully by the summer i'll be mobile again and walking!

Thanks for the review! I wanna like this kinda lenses and use them. But for me the limitations are always bigger than the capabilities. I’d always have a voice in my head saying a prime would make a sharper/better/nicer photo. That said when I shot apsc canon many of my favourite photos were taken with a 55-250 zoom.I didn’t know primes’s capabilities back then when I was starting out photography.

Great review thx !! For around $80.00 more i can have the Fujifilm XF70-300mm. I already have the XF16-80mm as a combo with my X-T4 and i don't see the purpose of having a zoom lens that cover this range... the advantage of the Xf70-300mm ... you can add the teleconverter TC1.4x or TC2.0x something you cannot do with the Tamron.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I've traveling to India next month, trying to decide whether to get this and just have one zoom lens to carry, or get the 70-300, and take it and my 16-80. I'm leaning toward the tamron, it just seems so convenient to only have one zoom lens. Also when you showed the shampoo bottle at first I was worried you'd be like, "the lens is like a shampoo/conditioner/body wash combo bottle, because it's terrible at the three things it's supposed to be good for". I'm glad I was wrong!! :)

@@pal2tech IF you can find one. I got lucky and found one from a seller on Amazon. They are out now. I've looked at all the New York seller sites and they are out. I love mine!! Glass is better than the EF 18-400mm lens!! Rumored to have 3 more X mount lenses, one of them is a 17-70mm f2.8 lens, I can't remember the other one, and they haven't said what the third one will be. I am hoping for one like Sony's 150-600mm lens. Hoping it will be cheaper than Fuji's XF100-400mm lens. Great video BTW. I am new to Fuji, except for buying their film long ago and putting it in my Canon 35mm camera. Been Canon since those days, I got frustrated with the lack of support for the M series. Been a Tamron fan for many years. This 18-300mm lens is awesome!!! ^_^

Tamron’s autofocus doesn’t surprise me. I had to send the 17-70 out for warranty because it couldn’t track anything. I got it back after they confirmed an issue and it was better but it’s not as good as I want it to be. I don’t feel I can trust Tamron in critical situations so I prefer 1st party lenses. The Sigma primes are an exception. They are truly amazing.

I viewed this video when it first came out, watched many KZfaq reviews of this lens and am ending up highly regarding Chris/pal2tech's judgement. Since the Fuji 70-300 lens has been unavailable for quite some time, I'll probably end up buying this for my XT4. Love the wide range, and especially the long 300 end for birding. I'm a little tentative, especially about the stabilization, but seems the only available option in my price range. I've found reviews of lenses are often hyper critical. Buy some of the cheaper lenses, use some Topaz Sharpen AI (and the like) and you'll have the sharpness of a much more expensive lens. For hobbyists and photo enthusiasts, the camera eco system is way too expensive to keep up with so it becomes a matter of compromise.

I feel like Fuji Cameras doesn't have the strongest video autofocus to begin with. It's good but a common thing I see from a lot of people and other videos is that you always have to use the single spot AF to get it to work at its best. So the issue with Video Autofocus could be a combination of both the system and the fact that Tamron might just not have it 100% dialed in right now. I own multiple systems, Fuji, Canon, and Panasonic. I did see a few videos about the Sony counterpart for this lens on their APS-C system and the Video autofocus was never a point that was brought up since in the examples it was really sticky throughout its whole range. Also before someone attacks me by just reading the first line I mean no offense to anyone or anyone's system. I'm just bringing it up since it was mentioned in the video and wanted to express my opinion on it. I forgot to mention! I feel like the Stills Autofocus on this lens was great in terms of knowing what to focus on!

I just purchased this lens for my X-T4 that I got for Christmas. Now I may have the X-T4 setup wrong but I cant tell if the IBIS or lens OIS is working for this lens. Cant hear and sound when I half pres the shutter, and it does not go rock steady like my Olympus gear. From what I can see the X-T4 does not display any symbol for when the stabilisation is working, only when I is not working / turned off. Checked with the 18-55 kit lens and it only shows an icon if stabilization turned off, So no idea if it is working or not. . Having the manual over ride ring close to the camera is a pain as I am always tripping it when holding the lens and camera so have had to turn AF&MF off. Also turned off focus check on the front button as I bump it too much with this lens. Was not a problem with the kit lens, but held it in a different way. . Not a bad lens but it may get swapped out for the Fuji 70-300 one day. The supplied hood is a bit loose when reversed so could fall off. When installed for use it is locked in solid.

In my Tamron 18-300 zoom works hard. Follow focus doesn't want to run smoothly. Jumps on gears. Is it just my lens acting this way? Regards.

Awesome video. Seriously considering this one since the Fujifilm 70-300mm is out of stock everywhere for past 2 months... Or would the Fujifilm 100-400mm be a better (MUCH more expensive) option for wild life photographt?

@@joey_bonzo I didn't know about the 150-600. Coincidently my 70-300 has finally shipped, that shortage was almost making me give up and get the older zooms

I just bought myself my very first fuji and it's the XT5 (Christmas gift from me to me 🎄) And I bought myself the Tamron 17-70mm as my first lense but now I see the reviews on the Sigma 18-50mm and I have doubts. I usually shot on prime lenses but because of money I though the first lense should be a zoom. I wanted to have a camera which gets me to go outside and shoot and have fun that's also why I switched from Canon to fuji. And now the Tamron is so large and heavy that I am not sure if it is a good choice for the everyday topic. But I also do weddingphotography and was afraid that the 18-50mm wouldn't be enough (loved to shoot on my 100mm Canon lense for portraits) do you have any experience on the Sigma? 🙈 Would love to hear your opinion

By chance do you know if this lens works with the Fuji teleconverters?! I'd love it even more if the 1.4x works with the lens

Hi Mr. Pal, I just received my copy of this lens the second week of March, 2022. Over a 4 month wait from B&H! I have observed one annoying problem with this lens: For general photography I mostly keep the camera's (Fuji X-T4) focus mode switch on "M" and use back button focus to autofocus, but when I want to use the Tamron lens' manual focus ring to change what's in focus, I must turn the ring many, many times to barely change focus. In testing the manual focus of the lens while holding the camera to my eye in normal shooting position, left hand cupped under the lens and right hand around the grip, it can take 30 or more left hand partial-turns of the manual focus ring to significantly move the focus point from close to far away. I've never seen any modern lens take anywhere near the ridiculous number of turns on the focus ring to manually change the focus point. With the camera in manual focus mode, the focus number line indicator in the viewfinder just barely moves even with many, many quick turns of the focus ring. The manual focus ring on this Tamron lens works, but in an almost completely useless fashion. Have you seen this?

Chris did you have to correct exposure in Lightroom for the photos? Theres an ammount of grain that should not be there if you exposure in camera at 2000 ISO, and probably C1 will deal with it even better. Just wondering. Great video!

Yeah, LR sucks for RAW files from Fujifilm. I prefer and use C1 but for video demos and overall photo DAM, Lightroom is just easier to use and faster for the KZfaq videos. I wish I had a staff, but so slammed that I have to cut/save time where I can and LR is just faster for me to demo on.

Hi. I’ve read several reviews on this lens and like many photographers it seemed an ideal lens to replace a number of my other lenses and would be great for travel. I bought the lens about two months ago and have been extremely disappointed with its focusing capabilities. I have tried everything I know to get clear images but this lens doesn’t seem to work nearly as well as my previous tamron 18 - 135. I upgraded the lens and my camera to an XH-2 and now don’t know what to do.

Hello, I really nead an advice, I'm planning to buy may second lense. I already have a Viltrox 56mm for fuji. Now I'm not sure which one to buy, if sigma 16mm 1.4 fuji or viltrox 13mm f1.4 fuji (which is not yet here in Italy) or Tamron 18-300 i like all 3 of them. Anyway as a photocamera I have fuji xt-30. Thnk you in advance.

I had the 18-250mm Tamron. I did not care for it. Slow auto focus, loud CA, and breathing made the internals a dust magnet. I hope this is a vast improvement

I already got plenty of lenses for my X-T2, but nonetheless this is a purchase candidate. It's ideal as a travel lens, but I'm not sure how it holds against the 18-135mm I'm using now. The extra range sure sounds great, but how often are you going to use it? I'm afraid not as much as many people tend to believe (unless you're really using it for wildlife or sports).

I also have an X-T2 and an X-T10. I take my X-T10 around with my 16, 23, 35 and 90mm just because it's smaller to carry around. I was looking at purchasing the Fuji 18-120mm when it comes out in September but do you think I should settle for this lens? It pretty much covers all the focal lengths I need but have never used a Tamron lens before. Was planning to put this on my X-T2!
