The Pala Group, the largest massif of the Dolomites 🏔, is one of the most iconic spots of the northern Italian province of Trento. Its imposing peaks provided the backdrop for a hiking adventure that my dad and I undertook in June of 2022. We started from the enchanting Val Venegia and its rolling hills dotted by cattle, conquered the smaller peak of Punta Rolle, and visited the iconic Baita Segnantini with its pond which reflects the Cimon della Pala, often called the "Matterhorn of the Dolomites" thanks to its jagged peak. From there we followed the very popular "Trekking of the Thinking Crist" which leads through well-preserved World Word I pathways, trenches and tunnels all the way to the top of the Castellazzo with its 2,333 m. Near the peak, a statue of the Christ depicted while reflecting is a popular spiritual spot. The trail descends towards Rolle Pass and finally heads to our starting point in the Venegia valley. The following day we got up early and took the two ropeways of Colverde and Rosetta which connect the village of San Martino di Castrozza all the way to the Pale Plateau at 2,700 m. From there, a brief and easy trail took us to Rosetta, a very panoramic peak at 2,743 m. We concluded our adventure with the descent from the top of Rosetta through a beautiful winding trail.
