“A land without a people, and a people without a land” is how the relationship between Palestine and the Jewish people was described by Christian writers in the 1800s. And the 20th-century history of the Middle East has largely been written through these eyes.
But this film from Al Jazeera Arabic looks at Palestine from a different angle. It hears from historians and witness accounts, and features archive documents that show Palestine as a thriving province of Greater Syria and the Ottoman Empire at the dawn of the 20th century.
The evidence suggests that its cities had a developing trade and commercial sector, growing infrastructure, and embryonic culture that would enable it to meet the challenges of the decades ahead.
However, the political ramifications of the Balfour Declaration, San Remo Conference and British Mandate set in motion a series of events that profoundly affected this vibrant, fledgeling society and led to the events of 1948 and beyond.
This film is the other side of the Palestinian story.

All the little boys and girls in Zionist school are told that..... [ The Land]...They are never told to use the word Palestine!!!....... . Was a barren desert with no water and people.......... So this video proves that Palestinians and Jews lived peacefully together in bustling cities such as Haifa and Jaffa and all across Palestine for hundreds of years before the European Zionists invaded Palestine and drove the Palestinian people off their Land............ The story that Theodore Herzl told about............ A LAND WITHOUT A PEOPLE........... Was a Fairy Tale........ FREE PALESTINE FROM APARTHEID ISRAEL 🇵🇸🇮🇪🇵🇸🇮🇪

After witnessing Palestinian protests over the years I assumed they were just fanatics. But this last week I decided that when two parties are involved, there are 2 stories to tell. Over the past few days I’ve watched documentaries like yours which convinced me I had misjudged the Palestinian cause. This is a case of injustice which began long ago and caused a lot of suffering. The shameful behavior of the Allies to conspire against them proves once again how self-serving interests overcome what is judicious. I will support the Palestinian people.

Please also give a thought about what happened before 19th century. Did all the Jews landed on earth from heaven just like that? Remember 6 million of them were killed during the holocaust. What Palestine claim to be their land was never 'their land'. A truth told partially is still a lie. That is what Al Jazeera has done here and made you to believe.

Here in Greece, our parliament voted to recognize the Palestinian state back in 2015. All parties agreed for the first time to something, but no government since then upheld that decision. As a Bulgarian I'm grateful for all the documentation and evidence that has been preserved, helping us make sense of the past and not forget how things used to be. In all honesty, I don't understand how anyone could ever believe that the region was "a land without people", some underdeveloped desert. One doesn't need to have studied too much about history or how human civilisation develops to have one look at the map and know that this was a cultural and commercial centre. Thank you for your work!

The British said the same thing when they landed in Australia- Terra Nullius I believe the term is. And it was with this term that the massacred and committed attrocities against the indigenous population. Israhell is nothing but a colonial project aimed at solving the Jew-ish problem in Europe. That is why they and the allies back them- because they don't want them back. The land was never theirs and will never be theirs and as long as they occupy- there will be resistance. The Hypocritical West can say what they want- History is on the side of Pales-tine.

@Sparrow so are the Khazars native to Palestine?Palestine was named after an Arab deity not a Khazar one, hence Palli-Stan, the land of Baal. Phelastin is just the semitic pronunciation of the name, since afroasiatic languages don’t have the P sound. Some try to invent a greek connection which has no historical basis whatsoever except for contemporary revisionists. All travelers who visited the land from Herodotus to Strabo to Diodoris Sicculus referred to them as Arabs. It is mentioned in the OT in Joel 3:4 KJV “Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine?”

The Jews killed pregnant women who were having their infants only few months old, they thrown 150 mutilated bodies n killed brutally into a well and hide their brutality. I agree. In order to see the full truth we must look at the bigger picture, and into the recent history of Palestine, instead of only at isolated events claimed by Israel. The violence did not start with Hamas on Oct 7th. It started around the 1940s when masses of new Zionist/"Jewish" immigrants invaded Palestine, turned it into Israel and killed, or stole the homes from and displaced, hundreds of thousands of the native Arab Palestinians who had been the vast majority of the population there. Since then, the remaining Arabs have been resisting Israel's invasion - they have been fighting for freedom from Israels violent and inhumane occupation of Palestine. In escalations of fighting BOTH sides have performed violent attacks for over 7 decades now. Hamas was formed, in the 1980s, in order to fight against the already existing violent Israeli occupation. So, to be fair, we must ask, which side is the invader/occupier? The honest answer is Israel. And which side has inflicted the most terror and done the most killing of common citizens from the start? The honest answer is Israel, by far, even BEFORE this current massacre in Gaza and even after Oct 7th. Look up Amnesty International's 2022 report on Gaza, and other human rights organizations reports against Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine and inhumane and violent treatment of the Arab Palestinians. Israel, please permanently cease fire and set Palestine free, now.

God said when he returned he'd put his ppl back there. Until then it's trodden down by gentiles. Hods ppl were taken as slave according to the bible and deuteronomy and taking to every nation ie black ppl. He said they nations would conspire against them and wipe remembrance of them. When God returns. Make khazars bow, retire his ppl and the land will be fully restored and those who believe will join just like I'm ancient Egypt. PLEASE read TRUE history. Read the documentary " The history of Palestine " It is lengthy but people should know the TRUTH. The whole area was called " The United Kingdom of Israel " for 1000s of years. Babylonia conquered, Persians allowed the Jews back, Romans allowed the Jews to stay but controlled them . Romans named the LAND Palestine after the Jewish Revolt. Then Ottoman conquered, Then Britain after winning WW2 ( helped save the world from communism) Divided the land giving the Jews the desert which they accepted, and the Arabs the best area which they refused because they wanted ALL the land. Arabs ( Muslim is their religion) believe once they dominate a territory that land belongs to them FOREVER. Five Arab states went to battle with Israel and lost even parts of Egypt and Jordan which was given back to them in exchange for a PEACE deal. Israel still owns Gaza but FORCED all Jews from their homes in 2005 and allowed the Arabs to maintain it. They have been bombing Israel ever since. There has never been a Palestinian State. The ancestors of many living in Gaza now came from around Greece and Crete. Maybe all the Arab states claiming most of the middle east should allow the Jewish people to have just the small area they have now. Since they were the first ones there and developed the first kingdom. The Philistines were there but they are now extinct. Philistine were different people then the ones calling themself Palestinians.

@@K131399 This was not about Oct 7th, but... the truth is that I feel just as sad for the innocent Israeli citizens, who were hurt or terrorized, as I do for the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian people who have been killed or terrorized or hurt or forced out of their own homes since the existance of Israel in Palestine. I have actually also felt horrible for the Israeli families of the hostages, because Netanyahu refused the deal to bring them back right away and then started bombing the area they were being kept in. This has surely been horrible for those familes. I feel for them. My heart aches every time I see videos of them protesting for Netanyahu to care about them and the hostages. I truly feel for innocent Israeli victims too. But you cannot turn me against the Palestinians, no matter what you say. They truly are far worse victims in this 75+ year old situation, even before Israel's last massacre of over twenty thousand in Gaza.

Going the farthest back into ancient history, Palestine was being ruled by Ancient Egypt. In other words, the land had various groups of people residing in it before Christians and Jews lived there. There is no such thing as “owning” land, the concept is entirely made up by humans. Take some hours, take notes and you will learn the truth. Philistines ( extinct now) use to live there first, then the Jewish people. Then" The United Kingdom of Israel" for 1000s of years. The people calling themselves Palestinians are different people from around Greece and Crete. Babylon conquered the Jews, Persians allowed them to come back, The Romans dominated the area and named the LAND Palestine in retaliation for the Jewish Revolt , Ottomans conquered, then Britain. divided the land giving the Arabs the best and the Jews the desert. Jews accepted and turned it into a paradise. Arabs refused because they did not want part, they want ALL the land.

Arabs where here, there's no doubt about it. The zionist doesn't say different ,maybe the extremist do. There were arabs in jaffa, haifa, in the negev in the Galilee etc...in 1948 about 2/3 of the population were arabs and the other were jews (All of them were Palestinians jews and arabs alike. It was not a national movement, Fun fact is that today the Palestinians doesn't recognize the jews as Palestinians ). It wasn't a county. many other states like Jordan, Syria etc were founded after WW2 including Israel. By the way Mohammed Amin al-Husseini who ruled the arabs in this region wanted to rule all the area of Jordan and Syria Iraq before their creation (To rule the grate arab state). The Palestinian arabs were the same arabs who lived in all the middle east. During WW2 Mohammed Amin al-Husseini joined Hitler because he believed he will get a state and rid off all the jews. In 1948 all the arbs country in the region attacked Israel and since then there were about at least 3 more wars where they tried to destroy Israel. In 1948 the arabs in the Palestinian territory as we Know it today were Jordanian and Egyptian after being occupied by them. They didn't ask to be palestinians because it wasn't a national movement (there were arabs who lived in this region and that's all). The PLO who founded by Yasser Arafat in 1964 (By the way Arafat is egyption) intrudes to the arabs who lived here that palestine nationality. Palestine during the ottomans were the south region of big syria. During the british mandate It included what we know today as Israel and jordan. Basically the arabs in jordan are Palestinians as the arabs in Israel but they are recognize themselves as Jordanians Because palatine wasn't a national movement.

Absolutely a pleasure to watch and learn so much about Palestinian history! How can anyone be justified in taking over someone else’s land, especially the people who welcomed you!! How cruel and inhumane; Ordering Palestinian people out of their homes, taking away their rights, displaying complete abuse of all moral values. It’s very shameful

A more recent version than the pre Christian era speaks of. Clearly the holy books describe it as land of Jews. No one has suffered more than Jews. Peace comes when we live and let live. Sharia law is tribal with simplistic eye for an eye logic, which is brutal, yet somewhat effective. Certainly it does not believe in reform. However, in practice one can trade with blood money in some parts of the Arab world, which in a way is transactional and possibly practical. Mahatma Gandhi had said “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind”. To that extent, blood money, or loftier forgiveness has its place too for lasting peace.

Zahir Muhsein was a Palestinian leader of the pro-Syria As-Sa'iqa Ba'athist faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization between 1971 and 1979. In an interview with Trouw Magazine, 31. March 1977 he stated....."The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons!" Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad, aired by Al-Hekma TV on March 23, 2012. Stated..... .....we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri ["Egyptian"]. Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian! They may be from Alexandria, from Cairo, from Dumietta, from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians. We are Arabs.

The history spoke for humanity. For us whose their country had been colonised & oppressed will always fight back for our independence. As an example we Malaysia, had been colonised by British in the 50s, we … the indegenous people of Malaya, fought the colonialism with our own blood for our independence. What Palestinians doing right now is to fight for their independence, thus that is not terrorism.

It's amazing how much historical videos, photos, and documents are in this project. I didn't realize how developed Palestine was back then, and the vast infrastructure they had before the Jewish diaspora came back. But it also made me realize that they lost more than their homes. Buildings, paved roads, banks, cars etc. Everything was stolen from them. And none of this is taught in history class. I'm so glad I watched this.

Throughout history, Western civilization has witnessed a litany of horrific crimes, atrocities, and acts of unspeakable cruelty. These harrowing accounts of human suffering stand as a haunting testament to the undeniable hypocrisy that clouds our sense of justice. Colonial conquests, carried out under the guise of civilization, resulted in the systematic oppression, brutal exploitation, and cultural annihilation of indigenous peoples across the globe. Millions were subjected to unimaginable suffering, robbed of their lands, and forced into lives of abject servitude. The transatlantic slave trade, one of the darkest chapters in human history, saw Africans torn from their homelands, shackled in the bowels of ships, and thrust into the horrors of slavery, all in the name of economic gain. World Wars I and II, once hailed as battles for democracy and justice, unleashed torrents of bloodshed and suffering. The Holocaust, an affront to humanity's collective conscience, bore witness to the cold, calculated genocide of millions, while the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki laid bare the capacity of civilized nations to unleash unimaginable devastation upon unsuspecting civilians. The Cold War, driven by ideological fervor, saw the United States and the Soviet Union both engage in morally indefensible actions. The support of authoritarian regimes with flagrant disregard for human rights in the name of global influence sowed seeds of suffering and repression in many parts of the world. Oppressive dictatorships in Central and South America, bolstered by Western powers, unleashed unspeakable brutality upon their own citizens. Today, the Middle East remains a crucible of unending conflict and misery. The Israeli-Palestinian dispute, marked by violence, displacement, and the erosion of basic human rights, persists, with Western powers playing a part in prolonging this cycle of suffering. U.S. military interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in countless civilian casualties, casting a long shadow over any claims to moral high ground. Furthermore, the refugee crisis in recent years has laid bare the stark contrast between professed Western values of compassion and justice and the inhumane reality of detention centers, callous policies, and the rejection of asylum seekers. The weight of these crimes against humanity and the yawning chasm between professed values and actions challenges us all to confront the undeniable hypocrisy that stains the history of Western civilization. It is a haunting reminder that true justice cannot exist in a world where such horrors persist. In the face of this past, the human spirit must rise to challenge oppressors, hold nations accountable, and commit to building a world where justice and compassion are not mere words, but lived realities. The onus is on us all to be the architects of a brighter, more equitable future.

@@Stephanie-zd5im If that is true maybe they should STOP trying to eradicate their Jewish brothers and sister, welcome the Jews (Zionists) whose ancestors lived there 1000s of years ago and allow the small area called Israel (Surrounded by Muslim Countries) to exist. Read the documentary " History of Palestine" You do know there has never been a country called Palestine ?? Judea was renamed Palestine by the Romans around 70 AD after the Jewish people revolted against the Romans attempting to change the Jewish religious system in Jerusalem.

This says a lot about the current war, minus the unnecessary victims. So I guess it's okay to say that the British play a role in what's going on in that region which seems like it's going to spill over to the rest of the world due to the evil and greedy puppet masters sitting behind the scenes drinking fine wine and whiskey inside their Rolls Royce collection while purchasing their new Bugatti for their kids and preparing their next golf game while arriving to their private jet and donating a few millions to get a tax break and look good making headlines while waiting for a few lobsters dipped in Caviar and a bottle of 1987 Dom Perignon. Did I miss anything? 🤔

@@ChristyWithamThat is totally wrong maybe you should look back in history in a real history book because the land has always belonged to Palestinian people to their ancestors known as the Canaanites who came from what was known as Canaan Yeah if you knew anything you would know Palestine was originally called Canaan and their people were called Canaanites and they're the ancestors of Palestinian people In fact the Jewish faith has literally changed the Hebrew Bible the fit there narrative and removed existence of the Canaanites and replace their name with Israelites making ancient Israel seem like it was a real place when it was not making it seem like there was ancient Israelites when they were not They were ancient Canaanites Palestinian ancestors maybe you should go get yourself an education dog.

@@ChristyWitham look back even further when the Canaanites who ruled the land of Canaan long before Israel and his Israelite minions appeared. Palestinians hold up to 90% of Canaanites DNA. Meaning they are direct descendants of the very first advanced civilization in that region.
