Cast and EPs of NBC's Parks and Recreation gather at PaleyFest LA 2019 to celebrate their show. Topics include: the inspiration for the character of Ron; the organic development of the April/Andy romance; the show's memorable catchphrases and contributions to popular culture; why an optimistic, humane leader like Leslie Knope is now desperately needed; Poehler and Scott's joy regarding Ben and Leslie's romance; Leslie and Ann's strong, supportive friendship as "the heart of the show"; and why Schur will "never say never" to the idea of a follow-up to the series.

@@rishabbomma9361 Community is far inferior to all of those shows. Chevy Chase is just not funny, and Joel McHale is not the greatest actor the world has seen. Not to mention each episode of Community follows the same exact outline. There's even a video somewhere of Harmom outlining the template he uses.
@pepesilvia429

@@ryanlacy5552 Chevy Chase is a fine actor, the writers just didnt like him, and I think Joel McHale does a decent job. Danny Pudi and Donald Glover definitely make the show tho; and I'd say it's at least on par with Schurr's shows, it's just different. I feel like every episode having the same formula makes sense considering how crazy the show can get within that formula, it almost feels like just a way to make sure the episodes dont get nonsensically insane.

I’ve watched a lot of tv shows over the years (it’s my vice). I’ve seen many dramas, comedies, sitcoms, classics, period/historical, shows from other countries, cable/network & so on. But Parks & Recreation was truly something special. My husband & I watch other shows but we always end our night with at least one episode of Parks. I call it my “daily dose of happy” because it just makes me laugh & feel good. We’ve easily seen the series going on probably 50 times over the years & it never gets old. Even though they’ll never see this, “Thank You!” To all the actors, writers, & creators of the show because it helps me laugh even during the darkest of days. 💚☺️💚

I feel the same way. I love The Office, but I love Parks and Rec even more because it's the story of how much good "nobody" local government people can do for their communities. Characters like Leslie/Ron/Chris/Andy inspire me to be a better person and do my part for others (even if it's simply volunteering or voting in local elections). The characters on the show truly love each other (they even love Jerry) and prove that working together at work worth doing is the secret to living a happy life. Again The Office is awesome and has its own charms, but Parks and Rec never fails to make me feel warmer even on the crappiest of days.

i recently wrote this about Aubrey, and her role as April Ludgate..... "Aubrey, who began the show as that indifferent, insufferable, apathetic, and even mean-spirited lost soul, who as he series progressed, became more and more human - more happy, more loving, more caring, more involved, and as Aubrey herself has said, more mature - April grew up - and to a large extent, Aubrey also grew up on the set of the show, and just as Andy Dwyer fell in love with April - so did we - and in some way yet to be understood or appreciated, the viewing public grew up with April Ludgate - we all became more happy, more loving, more caring, more involved and more mature. And with the end of the show 6 years ago, we have been left incomplete, searching for as many Aubrey Plaza appearances and interviews, TV and movie roles as we can find.... and in the end, whether it is April, or Darius, or Brandi, or Beth, or Susan, or Lenore, or Tatiana, or Ingrid, or Allison or Lucy... all we can say is THANK YOU AUBREY PLAZA, for helping us in a world that really needs it right now - thank you for helping us to be happier and better people, and for just a moment or two, helping us to forget how frightening our world has become!"

To answer the question of what it's like as a young person to grow up seeing the gifs and clips and then going back to watch the show, being a 19 yr old who has known about this show and almost all the names of the characters for probably close to 6 years now from tumblr but who only got around to binging the show this month: it's wonderful. I've been in so many fandoms for so many shows and all of them inevitably have some crack video that includes the drunk comp, or the broken coffee machine scene, or a jean-ralphio quote. not to mention all the gifs and the old analyses of characters I used to scroll by on tumblr. And I tried for years to get into the show and see what everyone was talking about but I could just never get past the first season until now. But oh my god, getting to finally put all those legendary moments into context and fully enjoy them with the characters they were meant for, and finally knowing the stories of those characters and their personalities and relationships and their likes and dislikes, it was amazing. I remember seeing once a post about how ben is the perfect husband and I was like "yeah i'm sure he is lmao" but now I wish I had saved it because I know just how true that post must have been. And now i'm so excited to go into more fandoms and see more crack vids that use clips from the show and appreciate them so much more lol. It's weird, because despite how legendary and popular the office is, I feel like parks n rec definitely left more of a internet cultural impact on me. I was able to recite so many scenes from this show by heart from memes but the only office meme I can remember right now is "OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING" Man I just love this show so much now, and i'm so happy i'll get to keep seeing it everywhere and have things keep reminding me how much I love it.
