Difficulty breathing is one of the most feared symptoms of dying. In this session, we will discuss strategies for Licensed Practical Nurses for assessing, preventing and responding to dyspnea.
Learn how to:
1. Discuss the experience of dyspnea.
2. Identify tools to assess dyspnea.
3. Identify strategies to prevent dyspnea from occurring and/or escalating.
4. Identify pharmacological and non-pharmacological ways to support individuals who experience dyspnea.
The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) partnered with expert Kath Murray to learn about palliative care - the art and science of death and dying. For more information about Kath Murray and her work, discover her organization Life and Death Matters.
