@@cassiereno114 we actually did have that course in the Uni ( I studied Psychology, this was one of the courses we had). That was in Russia about 25 years ago. Idk about other countries.

My boy with kidney disease had fur like that before the end. I tried to use pet wipes on his fur to help him out, but he hated it so much I quit. When they are at that stage, you do whatever you can to keep them happy and stress free.

I only, unfortunately, learned about that as a sign last year when my 11 year old boy Bran passed away. I had just thought he was in need of a long thorough brushout (dog with double coat) but, obviously, now I understand that it was not that. For 10 of 11 years, his coat was always great no matter what amount of brushing he got. Very low-maintenance. Then over the last year his coat became rougher, he started to walk slower... I had no idea because I was in denial that he was even "old". Do not be me, be like Billie's guardians. Accept that they get older and that they will pass - the shagginess of the coat, after MANY years of life, merely means you have achieved the important goal of getting them to elder/final years, and that is a mark of success as a pet guardian. Even if its coming sooner than you'd like, reaching a fine old age is not to be feared or feel bad about; approaching the palliative care stage with honesty, sadness, and peace/contentment for a job well done is more useful for our furry pals. I just wish I had understood, I'm sure there were more things I could have done to make him comfortable in his last months if I had been more aware, like they are with Billie. I might have been less sad over all, if I had taken more care and time to accept and prepare for the final day (regardless of when it actually arrived) and to allow it as a part of the natural premise of our time together. I have a small dog and cat now, taking up the big space where his 60lb furry butt used to be. They are 3-4 years old and adopted, rather than raised from tiny baby like my first, and I take all that Bran taught me going forward. Age isn't something to be scared of... But not being able to make their last moments in the world ones of PEACE is. If I had KNOWN what was coming, or to at least look out for it because he was older, I could have made things less scary and confusing for HIM when he passed. Instead, I was screaming and terrified and had no idea he was even "due to return to Heaven"... My biggest regret is that his last moments with me were chaos.

@@julilla1 i didn't know pet wipes existed, I always used a damp rag and my cat didn't mind. I thought that cats would like it because it might remind them of their mothers cleaning them. But of course, I didn't do it to many cats just a few.

My cat uses buttons too. 2 weeks ago my other cat suddenly disappeared and hasn’t been seen since. Yesterday my cat told me “Cale” “miss”. 😭😭😭😭

My heart goes out to you, we went through the same thing in the beginning of 2023. One was palliative, and I'm glad he made it through Christmas which was his favorite holiday. After losing him the second week of January, his buddy passed suddenly the first week of February. ❤ It's never easy. But the memories stay with you forever. I'm glad to see Billi enjoying herself to the max right now.

I just lost my Golden Retriever (1 year and 9 months old). The person operating him for his surgery cut two nicks in his bladder and covered it up. They were unable to save him. They gave me (Vet office) copies of his nose prints, paw prints, and lock of hair. I was then on Amazon and found wonderful kits where you can make your own prints! I bought two because I have two senior dogs at home and a little dog. Just like Rinji, you never know when they will go. When I make the kits, it will be associated with better memories than after he has passed. I highly suggest one of the kits while times are happy. I should tell Kendra too, but she might know already. It never hurts to have two sets. And you can take a cute picture instead of scrambling for one to put in the frame :)
