Filmed inside the aircraft mockup training classroom at the Pan Am Flight Academy in Miami, Florida. This video was played during purser training on how to handle difficult situations and diffusing workplace conflict. Starring Pan Am's own Cheri Leonhart, Linda Reynolds, and Joan Nell Bernstein!
Special thanks to Linda Reynolds for saving a collection of safety and training VHS tapes from the Pan Am Training Academy in Miami, Florida after the airline closed on December 4, 1991.

When Pan Am folded, all of those old trolly dollys came to work for UA. There was a joke at the time..."How many ex-Pan Am flight attendants does it take to change a light bulb? One to change the bulb...and 16 to say 'That's not how we did it at Pan Am.'" Lol

I’m a galley girl, and there should be one! You’ll see us having a panic attack over catering messing up and us trying to fix their mistakes when at the same time all the pilots wanting everything under the sun while trying to meet all of the purser’s extremely impossible service demands. And this is all happening before the airplane gets off the ground 😂 it’s like you’re in charge of feeding your family and making sure you have enough food with a horrible mother n law judging you and expecting you to fail while your husband is worthless and is being super needy. I’m not married, but I have a glimpse of it

Aye, aye, Franklin! I thought I was Chief of the Boat!" 😁 Did you know that Pan Am coined the use of nautical terminology for use in aviation back in the early thirties? Pan Am flew seaplanes (commonly called flying boats) and called them Clippers, after the sailing ships. The crew had captains and navigators and pursers, dressed in uniforms modeled after naval officers, and used terms like "forward," "aft," "starboard," "port", and "galley."

"Responsible for this position" and then she walks away without resecuring the cart doors. Amateur. Rummage through the carts all you want. It'll be faster to ask me where something is, but feel free. Just so long as you lock those carts back up. Once saw a galley position who triple checked all her carts before take off and went to her jumpseat which was out of line of sight. Some hungry stew ran up at the last second looking for her crew meal to take to the back. Opened a few carts and didn't relatch any of them. (Didn't witness that bit or I would have secured them myself. My jumpseat was next to the galley worker's.) As we took off we heard all kinds of smashing and crashing from the front. Turns out it was the entire main service for the first class cabin on an 8 hour international flight. Thought the galley gal was going to need to be put on oxygen. Always relatch any cart you're walking away from.

@@83willford Thankfully the hot entrees were in the ovens. It was the appetizers, salads, and dishware that were destroyed. So with a few apologies, and bit of scrounging from crew meals, breakfast service, and economy meal extras, and a LOT of wine refills, we were able to keep the passengers fairly content with eating their dinner straight out of the single serve heating tins we cooked them in. And for the rest of her career, that galley FA never again went to her jumpseat until after the takeoff announcement so she was sure no one else would touch the carts before we were in the air.

OK I am a retired flight attendant and this kind of shit actually went on all the time and probably still does. In a way I can understand the galley queens attitude because when you have to work in a confined space for hours pumping out hundreds of meals you don’t really want someone in your space because you have a way of doing things. I would always set it strait in a nice way during briefing and if I was not in that position, I relished it because I didn’t have to do all that crappy work, and let them have it all to them selves.. it’s called respect! All Flight Attendants have to do is respect each other and have fun because it was a fun job…

I disagree cuz there is no more cart service on any American carriers. Everything is pretty much pre-plated and you take that out. I'm old enuf to remember when it was ALL separate and the galley mama had to put EVERYTHING together while the other 2 were in the aisle with a serving cart.Hell, now the airlines are flying narrow bodies intl. I wouldn't work those shit flights with all the coach roaches if I was offered double pay. Flying 747-400's JFK-AMS, I was always senior enuf to hold door 5. I locked off a bathroom for the crew. All the pax were facing front, no one looked at me while I casually read my USA Today and ate my crew meal on the 45 minute long taxi to the take off point. And landing? Again, no one looked at me and I never had to fake a smile. I would pick up the PA and whisper "hurry up" "get off". Everyone was dying laughing. One favorite was before landing at 630 am in AMS we did hot towels. People who were dead asleep I'd JAB em with a finger and bark "lemon rag!!??" and their eyes were barely open when I gave them that scalding towel (we would put gin over the towels after the hot water just for fun). GREAT TIMES!!!!

I once witnessed a battle between FA's- it was back when one carrier acquired/merged with another carrier- this was one of the first flights with the combined crew- a total 'us vs. them' moment. It was awkward and horrible for everyone and made me super sad.

I see both sides of the story: when I was a young reserve I got used to narrowbody F set up as there isn't that much "organization" involved. Then when I got slotted into galley in F or J on a 747/ 777/767/DC10/ A3whatever I had to find my path. By the GRACE OF GOD were annoyed, but patient. Took years to find my groove but it worked. If you needed it I'll have it for you in 30 seconds.... But if you go yanking things without me knowing you're kind of messes up my personal flow because the successful galley attendant is one step ahead of the service. Now the way they handled it was hilarious in the vid.... and all too true.... And if anyone thinks I'm being misogynist you should see it when the two actors involved are male. We get way more territorial lol
