@@lezamaduque yeah man they really do! I’ve been following KEXP for a while and I always find new bands that I end up loving. This is the first time I’ve seen one of my bands make it to their screen, for such an intense performance in comparison to most on the show. It was a real treat

@Analog Weapon Other than the musicians *seemingly* being natives what makes the music "indigenous"? Are we catagorizing music based off the race/color/ethnicity of the musician now? Should black metal made by black americans be...black black metal?

In what way are they exactly different to the others? Other than maybe the visuals & concept (and even that was also used before by for example Xibalba) there isn't much. I mean they aren't bad at all, quite good but nothing beyond good standard that I listened many examples with very similar sound during the past decades. So I'm curious to hear in what way you see them as outstanding, alongside Kommodus, compared to the rest? And why you think Kommodus is outstanding? It's all cool if they are your fave bands, I'm just curious to hear your opinion.

@@philcrutches5274 nah I wouldn’t say they’re my favourites, but I just mean the impact they have on the scene. Like everyone seems cool with them to some degree, they are different enough aesthetically to stand out while still seeming cool, they’re accessible enough for newer fans but not overproduced like a band like black braid or smt. And they also have good riffs whilst being punky and heavy for non black metal fans. It’s a hard mix to be appealing to black metal elitists, old school metalheads, pretentious nerds and beginner metalheads and yet p.a.n.f gets it

good recommendations! excellent bands. tzompantli is local to me. cool ass band. i’d like to recommend ixachitlan/yohualli/mäleficentt (all projects by the same fellow), yaotl mictlan and kaatayra/bríi as well

Kukulcan, Kūka'ilimoku, Blue Hummingbird on the Left, Volahn, Invunche, Xibalba, Nexcoyotl, Tlateotocani, Yaocuicatl, Maquahuitl, and Shataan are some other indigenous themed/adjacent bands

Black metal got tons of groove. Check out Dissection if you don’t know. Or Abyssos. That’s more vampiric symphonic black metal but very melodic.

Black metal covers a wide range from bleak monotony to gorgeous melodic landscapes. It's my favourite metal genre for this very reason.

As the others said, black metal is wide. This band plays more of the old school black metal which had influences from trash and death metal.

Addaura and Wayfarer have also played here, as have The Body and Thou who are not full blown black metal but have a lot of black metal influence into a sludge/doom context
