----
Bake at 340 degrees
regular size -20 to 23 minutes
Family size- 35 to 38 minutes
1st rise 2 to 2 1/2 hours
2nd rise 45 minutes to 1 hr
*the second rise is highly important, don’t overdo it!
Ingredients
5 1/2 Cup Ap flour
5 large eggs (room temperature)
3/4 cups milk, warm (between 90 to 110 degrees max)
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup margarine, temperature
1/2 cup sugar + 3 Tbsp sugar, for yeast sponge
2 1/2 Tbsp yeast (active dry yeast)
1 tsp salt (Himalayan)
Zest of one orange or 2 cuties : )
1 Tbsp orange essence
1/2 Tbsp butter essence, optional
Optional Star anise
Extra melted butter & sugar for coating
FAQ? Why I used butter and margarine? I love the buttery flavor. Also, need the fatty oiliness that margarine provides, you know that little extra love. Shortening or lard give this recipe a different flavor. As always amigos, make it comfortable for your home 🥂
- Essence or extract will work for the recipe-
the extract is the natural product
the essence is the manufactured product
Tip- Remember you are making homemade baked goods and the ovens at your bakery are highly different. Enjoy the process and the baked goods amigos. Make sure the bones and tears you place on the top stick, other than that- You got this! 😘

♡♡♡ I didn't grow up celebrating Dia De Muertos, but I had the opportunity to experience it years ago when I was in Mexico on that day. I thought it was absolutely beautiful♡ I remember very clearly the resting place of a little baby, it had a picture of her & a hand written note from her parents encased in glass. It asked for the locals to care for her grave as they were unsure if they'd ever be able to return to Mexico. It had fresh flowers and toys.

@@anonanon2712 it was indeed very sad. Reading the note and seeing the baby's picture made me tear up. This was 20+ yrs ago when I was in high school and I remember it so clearly. The grave was old, but I remember appreciating how clean and how well maintained it was. The entire cemetery was fillled wirh flowers, laughter and tears amongst family & friends visiting their loved ones...it really was beautiful♡

Damn, that’s sad. My grandma always puts up an altar of my aunt in her house, me and my sister loved to see her pictures on the altar and my grandma and her sister would always cook great meals for us. Día de muertos in Mexico is a day to grieve, to celebrate and to eat all you can lol.

@Decolonization is for everyone bruh your username kind of shows that you don’t really know a lot about Mexico. Our culture is formed by indigenous and Spanish traditions, we are a mix of indigenous tribes, Europeans and even African slaves. That said, I agree with you, matadores are part of the Spanish culture, it’s not a beautiful tradition but you shouldn’t be hating on Spain, because it seems like you kind of are.

I was just talking to my sister a few hours ago about setting up an altar/ofrenda for our recently passed mother. I've been enjoying this channel for a bit now (reminds me of the times I would cook with my mom/aunts), and to see this video come out today is one in a long line of synchronicities since her passing. Thank you for helping me honor her!

I just made this recipe for the first time after moving home from Mexico over five years ago, and let me just say, IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Probably the best pan de muerto I've had! If you are debating making this recipe, just go for it! You will not be disappointed 😋 (I substituted the active dry yeast for a little less than 2 tablespoons of instant yeast and it turned out great 🙂)

I caught up, finally!🙌🏽 This is such a special recipe to share, thank you for that. ♥️🙏🏽 Mi Ama didn't really raise us with alot of cultural traditions and such. We're a mix of many beautiful cultures Mexican, African American, Native American, y dios sabe que mas...it would have been nice to grow up knowing and appreciating more traditions from our roots. My husband is from Guatemala & has many with his family but he admits he wishes he would have kept them and not let work and life here get in his way of them. As we grew together we always new when we had kids we would look more into them and introduce them to our kids. However it's been almost 10years and still no kids. Since that's been the vase lately we find more interest in that...So hopefully we can set aside time for things like this. I think it's so beautiful seeing all kinds of people embrace their cultures & traditions.🙏🏽🥰
