I swear, as soon as Panasonic figures out good autofocus, I don’t know how the other companies will compete.

Hi Tom, thanks for the comment. I can't believe Panasonic hasn't made their system comparable with the likes of Sony, Canon, or Nikon when it comes to Autofocus. They are their own worst enemy sadly. Their cameras are great. I actually have a video in the cue about that exact topic :).

If Lumix had Sony AF they would be un stoppable but they keep on holding back. I just can't work it out Tom. Well let's hope they change their AF system :).

Ikr, Panasonic has way better menu's, ergonomics, stabilization etc. I would love it if they got the autofocus right. Then I wouldn't have to switch to A7IV when it comes out and could just get the S5 or something.

I love this lens for still photography. I can imagine it’s not ideal for video, but it sure has beautiful rendering.

Thank you for the video. I use it quite a lot for photography esp. when size is a must. Mostly with Lumix GX9 sometimes with GH5-MK1. Rarely for Video. Have discovered though that on my new G9 it works fine even for video. Definitely continuous AF for video works.. With GH5 as well as GX9 (I mean video continuos AF) but it is sluggish, sometimes rejecting to focus when rapidly changig the distance from far to close. But G9 performed with the lens surprisingly well esp. when Face AI tracking and 4k/50/60 fps used. It was responding reasonably quickly, from infinity to face suddenly occurring in a frame (30cm or so) it took roughly between 1-1,5s to refocus. That really surprised me. Lack of AFC is relevant only for still burst shooting - and the problem is motor. But otherwise focus was perfectly OK (for stills) not that snappy as modern lenses but fine for street photography or anything like this. Given the motor - confirming the focus was not as straightforward as with PDAF but nothing unusable, mostly visible with far distant objects. However problem for video is slight but audible "tik, tik, tik, tik" sound when focus motor is engaged. I mean using the camera microphone. Generally I was several times thinking of selling it but G9 (yes G9 bought in 2023...) convinced me it is worth keeping (for stills as well as for video).

Interesting that the autofocus is poor even on the Olympus. I just bought an EM1MkII after seeing your recent video and then also watching the others noted in your review, and it works well with my Panasonic lenses though I had yet to try my 20mm 1.7. Picked up the Olympus for $530USD on Ebay! You were not kidding about a big improvement in autofocus vs the Panasonics. I own a G9 and GH5 and the Olympus runs circles around both in terms of autofocus reliability and definitely hints at what a MFT camera can do with added phase detect. Hopefully Panasonic or the new group at Olympus will take it to the next level with their next MFT cameras

Thank you so much for your honest review. Yes, this lens are tiny, but the AF is useless. Outdoors, I use instead my 14mm 2.5. If focuses very fast and it is better for vlogging. Indoor, I use a Sigma 16mm 1.4. It is heavier, but for studio is great. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words 🙏. I run the Red and Green at -5 and the sharpness all of the way down. I also have the S curve down to -3 or -5 on the highlights to tame everything when shooting outdoors. I might make a quick video about it. The results have been pretty cool from the EM1MKII, I am very surprised how great it is to use. Thanks to Peter Gregg and Dave Maze for the heads up on that camera.

You mean the no-detail-in-the-shadows blacks? Hah, I really don’t get this amateurish worship of badly exposed images. Contrast is great, but not at the expense of detail and the creation of artificial looks.

I had it, the slow autofocus was such a disappointment and i do not even shoot videos, i sold it after few weeks. The focal length was perfect for street but that autofocus made it useless. Now i have the 15 which is the best mft looking lens ever made, and i'm used with the focal length from phones. I only wish for the aperture ring to work on olympus

There is a video comparison which claims the 20 mm to be much sharper than the 25 mm. Did you find the 20 mm to be much sharper than the 25 mm? thank you.

Hi good day, I'm looking for a lens recommendations, I've started shooting and lot of events at church and sometimes I'm so far away like 75-100ft away from the stage but I need a lens that can still get me a nice mid-shot or close up shot from 100ft away, I was looking at the panasonic 35-100, olympus 75mm, or Rokinon 85mm, or any other suggestions you may have. Can you make a recommendation please?

Panasonic make a 45-150mm MFT lens that's affordable and will zoom in fairly far. I have an old review on the channel somewhere about it.

Panasonic lenses are so expensive and they even don't have AFC. What a crappy system... man I shouldn't buy a lumix camera. Really disappointed with panasonic. I mean, with new firmwares AF is now acceptable, but most of the lenses are crap. Is there any pancake lens with good CAF, with a good fiedl of view, and nice aperture, for this system, for video vlogging? I mean, we are almost in 2023, rigjt? Auto focus has been around for ages... I don't understand how people enter this system...

@@GeekyNerdyTechy ok, but they are way worse than Sony/SIGMA ones, if you want the same Aperture, or field of view, and their AF is crap, comparing to Sony, with stabilization optcal. I really don't know who get into this micro 4/3 system. I think I will sell my lumix camera... by the way, is there any 20mm lens with AFC? I don0t think so...

@@lboymusic There's a right and wrong tool for the job. Whatever you buy someone else will no doubt hate it, and it doesn't matter one bit. I own a bunch of high end stuff from Sony, and the MFT has a way better feature set for what I do. Sony's stabilization is terrible. I shot with both systems overseas recently and they both have their place if you use it to their strengths. There's plenty of lenses that cover the 20mm range 12-35 f2.8, 10-25mm f1.7, 12-60 kit etc. 20mm (40mm equiv) isn't as popular as a lot of other ranges. This lens is good optically, but I didn't enjoy it much for video work unless I was seated with manual focus and it was wild. Get what works best for you. I do paid jobs with both systems and no one complains.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy I always buy the best bang for te buck. So I bought the G100, instead of the ZV1. The problem is that in order for the G100 be a best buy, you have to buy a better lens, than the one's Sony got, but in the case of Micro 4/3 you have to pay a lot for a decent lens. I look at Sony APS cameras, Fuji, and you can buy a 35mm, 20mm micro 4/3 equivalent, for 200$. But you have to pay twice as much to have the same focal lenght, and aperture. Why?!?! And it is not compact anymore. Ok, you can buy the 15mm, but it will cost you....micro 4/3 is worst than APSc but the system is also worse. Lenses are expensive, in terms of what they offer... Auto-focus is poor...
