No IBIS, no USB-C no Phase Detect AF. Cameras like this are the reason, why the market is declining. Repurposed internals that are from the 2014-2016 era are not making me want to buy stuff. If camera makers want to earn money with sales, they need to actually release new and exciting stuff. The times of intentionally crippling cameras is over. Because people are no longer "buying your stuff anyway" - Hint: They arent.

I find the G100 perfect for vlogging and walking around. You pointed out the issues with shooting 4K with the G100. However, I mostly prefer shooting in 1080P for vlogging and everyday photography, and I love the M43 format. As a retiree, I appreciate the size and price advantage of M43. I own Lumix g7 and G9 camera bodies, and have a nice collection of reasonably priced, small, M43 lenses. All of them work nicely on the G100. Of course, I'm delighted that the controls on the G100 are conveniently located similarly to my G9. The biggest difference between my go to G9 camera and the G100 is the size. That G100 is tiny. With IBIS lenses, and the light camera body, camera shake is less than you might expect. Very happy to add this camera to my M43 collection.

I don't remember seeing a worse (at release time) camera from Panasonic ever. This camera is just ridiculously bad. Digital stabilization, upscaling, 10 minute recording limit, focusing all over the place (which is normal for Panasonic, with their horrible DfD garbage). @Catalin Apostol that's because super small and super light doesn't go with large sensor + Great IBIS + no crop in 4K, at least not with a larger time constrain than this camera already have. Small form factor is always about compromise. Wanting small with no compromise is impossible, especially considering the large range of needs and wants of so many types of videographers and photographers that will actually conflict with each other's use case. Case in point, already KZfaq videographers are having a diametrically opposite of interest in features with cinema videographers, with one really wanting IBIS and the other prefers external stabilizers. Well the more the merrier I guess.

Can't wait to see the Camera Conspiracies boardroom meeting for whoever came up with this camera. In all seriousness, this camera will not be first, second or even third choice as a vlogging camera for most. Not having IBIS and the 4K crop just cripple this camera. I though the CAF in 1080 was good but in 4K it struggled. Given the current photography climate Panasonic really missed what their target market are looking for. They would have been developing this camera for at least a year, if not, more and I am sure their Lumix ambassadors would have provided feedback, looks like the development team disregarded all the input.

I don't get why a close to 4 million dot EVF is even in a vlogging camera to begin with. Social media people just take pics in manual mode on their phone & post, they couldn't even give a crap for digital cameras in that regard. Funny thing is, replacing that with IBIS probably wouldn't have added much to price, and camera would yield better image quality.

I think it's weird that so many people are hung up in the issue of USB. Sure I also love USB-C and on my G9 I think it was a terrible decision to go backwards after having it on the GH5, especially for a flagship cam (and it even having the worst connector USB has to offer), but with these budget cams like these I think the USB port is the least concern. If the cam had everything else it needed, sure I would be on board with complaining about USB C, but even with USB C this cam would still seem like a rather poor product.

It tragic to hear the Olympus news today. I bought an E-M1 Mark III for hiking, (I upgraded from the E-M5 Mark III as the base plate is questionable). Having used a GH5 previously I think the E-M1 Mk 3 is a brilliant camera for vlogging. No-one apart from Camera Conspiracies is talking about it. IBIS, autofocus, dust proof, decent battery, USBc charging, not too heavy. Pair it with the Oly 9-18 and you've got a great set up. It is such a shame they are selling it off as in my opinion it is the best vlogging camera out there at the moment. Stay cool.

I see in other reviews that the face AF works really well. I love the old GM1 and have taken amazing photos with it so I'm imagining that this G100 is a successor to that GM line. So maybe it's not a vlogging camera but a hybrid camera for daily use? Maybe Panasonic marketed this camera wrongly? Anyways, thank you guys for all of your hard work ❤️

The decision to take IBIS out is so baffling that I actually couldn't believe it was true when I first heard it. I refused to believe Panasonic would do something so stupid because that makes it borderline useless for the purpose they're marketing it for. And that audio thing is a pointless gimmick because anyone who takes audio seriously is going to be using an external microphone anyway, so it's just wasted resources. If they took the IBIS out to make room for that stupid audio thing while keeping the price down, it was a frankly idiotic tradeoff. And that crop in 4K is inexcusable. It's not 2014 anymore. If they seriously couldn't come up with a processor that could downsample from the full width of the sensor, then they should have put in a lower resolution sensor. It's a video-centric camera, so they could have sacrificed stills resolution for the sake of non-cropped 4K. And that autofocus is a joke. It struggles to track a human head even when it's centered and taking up the entire middle third of the frame in bright sunlight.

Panasonic board room meeting: Boss I heard that Canon is renting out the Cripple Hammer, they need the money. They said they will give us video autofocus technology from year 1990 included in our lease of the Cripple Hammer. Should we go with it and include their 1990 autofocus in our new vlogging camera? 1990 autofocus? I'm not gonna lie, I like where your head's at Steve. We could save money by including "budget autofocus" but still charging for our best autofocus. Wouldn't the Cripple Hammer wreck our factory though? Boss you have to think positively. We are Panasonic, we can tame the Cripple Hammer and learn its secrets, maybe even harness its power. Don't you want to know the secrets of the universe boss? Alright Steve, I'm going to lease the Cripple Hammer for a month. Go make the vlogging camera so we can have a piece of that ZV1 pie. Just control the Cripple Hammer. I don't want it touching the Panasonic GH6 development team. Don't worry boss we will keep it under control. It can't possibly cause that much damage in 1 month ;) Thoughts inspired from "Camera Conspiracies" channel and his niche of camera comedy :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsh7f9F4ldq6eqM.html Skip to 5:06 in the linked video for one of the funnier Canon Cripple Hammer moments. Strange. I just watched Kai W's review and his internal audio capture was a thousand times better than what I heard here. Not that tinny, either. I don't know if he changed any settings. But, the difference between the two reviews is night and day. There were a few times where you stood several feet away from the camera, and from what I've seen of vlogging that's not that common. Why camera companies keep on doing this? It can't be that hard to pick a gx85, put a flipscreen and a mic jack on it, upgrade the mics and, for god's sake, phase detection af on it! That would be the perfect interchangable lens camera for convinience!

The key defense of MFT remains stabilization... Serious marketing department reorg is needed at Panasonic. G90 with better autofocus (phase detect, continuous) and no crop would have been such a success for vlogging...

Over the last year I have been thinking about what I think should be recognized as one of the important emerging markets for video-capable ILC cameras: The "Cine - Student" market. If you are going to make cinema the focus of your future, what is your best option? I would say that as of "yesterday" it was CLEARLY either a Panasonic G7 or a GH4 with V-LogL upgrade. Either has the controls needed to cover what a student will need to for "projects and assignments" (all the major controls that a cinema course will likely cover, and operating in ways that reflect the way the course could be laid out), and can give "Pro-quality" results up to UHD for a portfolio. I think the G100 is clearly aimed at replacing the G7 and maintaining a leadership position in this market. How important is this market? One thing I have realized is that "you can't really do much in video on your own". Still photography can be done by a solo photographer. Realistically, there is not much you can do that way in cinema. You TWO are an example of that. So are the Northrups. Most of the other successful photo channels also work with two or more people. So how do you hook up with other people you will want to work with? Mainly in school. That is where you will be able to see who is worth working with. So "cine-school" is the future and the cameras that dominate there will win the future, and yes, I think that this is where the G-100 can shine.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Help! I put the camera on a tripod and I was doing talking head. But the image is moving! Like being handheld. Why? I am a Canon DSLR user, so I am really confused. Is it some kind of image stabilization? Or is it “destabilization”? Because the image is moving (following me) while the camera is not.

I got the Sony ZV1 based on this review and I made a mistake. My Pany G-85 produces better video, besides the focus there is nothing better about the Sony camera vs the G100. So I'm really interested in trying the G100 camera out and hoping that it can replace my G85. My G9s video is not that much better either than the G85s and I heard from other reviewers that this camara, G100, produces video similar in quality as the GH5.

It's a pity to have presented the G100 for only a V logging camera. It can take great pictures with prime lens like the 15mm, 20mm, or 42.5mm, it has the same sensor that the G9. You can keep it in your pocket. I wish I could find one in France at a decent price to use it with my small lenses and keep zooms on my G90.

Yep. I just got one refurbished for $399 with the kit lens, it's pretty much brand new. Canon is the only one who sells an interchangeable lens mirrorless camera for anywhere close to that price, but this camera is considerably better than the R100 and there are way more lenses available for it too and at much better prices.

Panasonic seems really confused these days, especially on a conceptual level. Their last good camera was probably the G9? I moved over to Fuji and haven’t looked back, but am pretty surprised to see a lot of the same issues still there wrapped in a different package. Having said that I’ve always liked the super natural look of their image and the color science; it’s not film-like but there’s a “being there” sort of feel to it.

Does the surround audio records all mics separately? It uses beamforming so it doesn't exactly chooses the mic but processes all the inputs from all the mics - and that could be done in post.

Thank you for your video. As a content producer, I'm always looking for that piece of kit that makes my job more efficient. I was hopeful that with the interchangeable lenses Panasonic may be on to something. Thanks to your video, I know that I'll stick to my 3 ZV1s that I'm currently using. I have a host of other gear, but the ZV1 is set it and forget it easy and the autofocus has been exceptional. Thanks again! Rick

I just don't understand why these camera companies keep coming out with "vlogging" cameras without IBIS. Vloggers are going to be walking around with this thing! It needs stabilization! While this and the Sony look pretty neat, without IBIS, it will probably be a hard pass for most including me. I'll stick to my Osmo Action or Osmo Pocket for now. Great review guys!

Thx for the informative review once again. Like many others, I'm a big fan. I don't understand why the camera manufacturers still can't seem to provide decent ibis or good image stabilizer for their cameras. I have been using my osmo pocket, osmo action and gopro hero 8 for vlogging most of the time and love the results coming out of those tiny equipments. The only downside is the low light performance due to the small sensor.

Concerns about the lack of IBIS and autofocus aside, does anyone really NEED to vlog in 4K? Does it make much of a difference in your final image? I don't think so. Plus, it requires a beefier computer to edit it and higher-capacity drives to store it. That's not to say 4K doesn't have its place. I'm just not sure it makes sense for vloggers.

Thank you Chris and Jordan for excellent review, as always. The autofocus on video is really bad. I see that without stablized lens, image stablization is bad, too. I guess I won't be expecting stabized video with Leica Summilux 15mm or Laowa 7.5mm, which I've already own. Size is also bigger than ZV-1. Image looks sharper on smaller sensor ZV-1. Slower speed lens kit (is this why there is no buit in ND filter?) then ZV-1. I 'm Panasonic /Nikon fanboy, but went with ZV-1 (I really don't have favor for Sony products since all of their procut I own went bad right after warranty expired - from radio boom box, origianl walkman, ps2, ps3, to a high end camcorder). Oh, well...
